Title: Cooling system questions
Post by: Jorsher on April 26, 2010, 11:25:40 PM
Driving the CRX, suddenly started having a ton of white smoke from the engine bay (hood is off), and temp started rising.  Turned out that the line I had to plug that usually loops back to the B18A water-neck unplugged itself and dumped all the coolant.  I'm going to get a couple of those hose band things and tighten the shit out of them...right now just using a piece of hose with a bolt in the end.  The line comes off the intake manifold, there's a big hose inlet then a smaller one that comes out of that...I'm assuming they're both supposed to loop down to the thermostat housing?

The car got to operating temp but the fan never turned on, is this normal?

Heater hoses were hot, however I couldn't get any heat.  The knob on the climate control doesn't work so I manually opened/closed the heater hose thing in the engine bay but couldn't get hot air no matter how I switched it...is there another "throttle" somewhere or any explanation why I'm not getting heat?

Bottom radiator hose was very cool and felt like nothing was in it, but I'm assuming it SHOULD be cool and as long as the upper hose is hot then the thermostat is opening and all is well?

No heat means you either have an air pocket, or you core is plugged up.

They usually run quite a while at operating temp before the fan will kick on.

The small hose goes to the TB to heat it and prevent icing IIRC.

Pics help a ton with stuff like that.

Jumper the fan to make sure it works.

After you open the valve under the hood, open the valve in the pass side floor panel ( by the heater core )

Thanks, that's probably what the problem is.  Was thinking there was another valve somewhere.
