Title: Block Machining
Post by: 92CXyD on March 09, 2009, 08:19:10 AM
I'm taking my d16z6 block to work to have it bored and honed.

We are using a Cincinatti Mill and my machine guys have never done an engine block.

I am assuming all I need is to measure the piston at the widest dia. and add my desired p2w minus about 0.0005 (to give room to hone down to the final p2w)

then mill the deck 0.020 and the camfer the bores and bolts.

is it really that simple or am I missing something.

I want to make sure that I am not forgetting anything.
I'm getting/doing all this done for free. ;D  :noel:

my dad did my d16 block for me at work, he said he would never do it again because we don't have the right grade of carbide to cut cast iron and the fact that you can get a engine machine shop to do it for under 100 dollars

make sure you have a good boring bar, the one we had only had a 3/4 shank which was gay cuz it would chatter like fuck if you tried taking a decent cut with it

forgot one more thing make sure you only leave around 0.0005 left like you said to hone out, because it takes fucking forever to remove material with a stone hone
