Not the time of the day.
-
132mph on his new setup today at the track! Maybe he will post up soon, I'm not sure if he logged in to the new RHMT yet.
-
ok
-
Sweet et what was your trapspeed? ;D
-
Ok Im so doing one of these vitara builds. Amazing :)
-
And....... No broken axles or trans!
-
I'll race him for titles in the turbo Miata I'm never building, just as soon as I finish putting together my Civic drag car that I'm never building.
-
Best was 132.8
Im happy with it, but its got a little more left in it.
-
isn't he dr. d-series?
-
And....... No broken axles or trans!
The light chassis is showing its helping out on drivetrain failure. Im sure the car has 10.20's in it.
-
isn't he dr. d-series?
Yes the gold hatch

LOL , I'm not sure how many passes he made.
I was curious who was closest to guessing his ET on the old site, where there was a thread about his newest setup.
-
Is it possible for this car to run a 9.99?
-
LOL , I'm not sure how many passes he made.
I was curious who was closest to guessing his ET on the old site, where there was a thread about his newest setup.
I guessed once dialed in it would run 10.20's. The old b16a car I spent my youth working on or being the bitch boy around the shop was a low 10 sec car with around the same power levels.
Breaking the car into the 9's was much harder. Had to get away from single disc clutches and stock axles has with the extra power/bigger slick caused nothing but blown up clutch discs and broken vatozone axles.
-
Thats sweet!
-
Vids?
-
holy shit, congrats!
-
And....... No broken axles or trans!
he is on stock hf axles as well...
thats fuckin sweet...
someone get his ass over here along with pootie's ass

Very impressive. Got any vids?
-
Badass.
-
ambient temps?
-
Dr. D can you post your set up so it will be in the archives
-
I want a 100 shot on top of it all, and video of you getting kicked off the track.
-
I want a 100 shot on top of it all, and video of you getting kicked off the track.
JD, what does he need besides the cage?
-
NHRA license to run 9's. :noel:
-
-
Amazing. Speechless.
-
Like JD said, 100shot should push you into the 9's
even if it only dose it 1 time it would be bad ass.
-
what gear/rpm are you finishing at?
-
Joe thats sick I didn't even know you where going today. Got vids?

I'm embarassed with my b-series :-[

I'm embarassed with my b-series :-[
well, if your b went low 10s, you wouldn't be. now go spend 3 times the money and make it happen so you feel better

JD we were talking about the nitrous, and its becoming a possibility. Were gonna start small though and see how the bottom end takes it. I think a 50 shot will do a lot for it.
I think the car has more in it the way it sits.
-
is that a log manifold? O0
-
Yes sir.
-
O0
LSD in the tranny?
-
O0
LSD in the tranny?
Not yet. Joe you should have stop by and pick it up.
-
can I ask how much loot you have in the car/build?
-
did you do any milling of the block, porting oil pump, matching oil lube holes of the bearings w/ block, or any other tricks? ;D
Do you have any pictures of cyl. porting and intake porting? ;D
Is your car still streetable setup or strickly track? ;D
-
What about another 10psi instead of the 50shot, that holset still has more in it. :noel:
-
Just awesome. The definition of rhmt
-
Block is not decked. Head is milled a touch just for straightness. Oil pump is ported and shimmed. Running straight 30w heavy duty diesel/gas oil.
The turbo will not support another 10 psi. Its losing boost at high rpm as it is. I think it has something to do with the rpm were running. We were shifting around 8900.
Build cost is really unknown at this point. Its gone through a bunch of changes that have all improved the setup. But its not an expensive build. The cam is the most expensive part really.
-
so who guessed the closest time on the old "what will my car run this season" thread????
-
Im a new-b. Thats hot.
Not.
-
thats badass. i have a shell here that i cant do shit with because it has no title. would love to do a build like that for it and just use it as a track car, but niggas be broke O0

When you ported your head and intake did you do just a port match job or did you use a flowbench?
Am I reading that correctly no LSD? :noel:
-
I did the intake manifold. I have worked on flowbenchs enough I know what works and what doesnt. Proof in the pudding is it works.
Flowbench time is very expensive unless you personally own (10K)+ name brand units. When your porting manifolds for under 100 dollars to compete with CDM intake manifold like Bloxs sohc manifold that are horrible designs I have to undercut their prices. Also once you have worked/found out what works on a flowbench you dont have to keep retesting your work. Port work is an art form your hand will be pretty damn accurate after 100+ manifolds/heads.

How much to port y8 head and z6 mani and through on a 70mm TB w/ spacer? ;D

JD we were talking about the nitrous, and its becoming a possibility. Were gonna start small though and see how the bottom end takes it. I think a 50 shit will do a lot for it.
A 50 shot will get you 75+ to the wheels, it really depends on how free flowing your hotside is.
The turbo will not support another 10 psi. Its losing boost at high rpm as it is.
Internal or external gate? If external, what wastegate spring?
so who guessed the closest time on the old "what will my car run this season" thread????
I did.

I think that it might be a wastegate issue, as in drive pressure opening your wastegate. I have run that turbo over 40psi and not had it fall below 40psi @4000rpm in a 5.9L motor or ~23600lpm vs your 1.6 @ 8900rpm ~14240lpm. The drive pressure on that turbo @ ~40psi in my experience has been (with a log mani and the 18.5cm housing) about 50 - 52psi or about 1:1.2 which is imho pretty safe, drive pressure to manifold pressure.

what spring is in the wastegate?
-
Found one why its been losing boost. It was doing this on the dyno too.
Exhaust gasket on #1 runner was totally GONE and the 1 of the 2 bolts on the WG was falling out. BIG leaks. Ill have it all taken care of by the next track day. Im also getting my exhaust manifold flange milled since its pretty warped.
The 2 springs in the WG equal 20-21 psi. The boost controller is only adding about 4 psi.
Head was ported and I didnt follow any guides other than what my finger felt going through the ports. Took out whatever didnt feel right to me. Nothing special, but it seems to be working fine.
The turbo now SHOULD support more boost with the exhaust leaks fixed. Maybe we'll throw a couple more psi into the motor.
dvst8r - Thanks for the info, now im confident I was having issues only because of the leaks.
I think just a 50 shot will get the car near 10.0 to 10.1. We'll see.
-
Nitrous will hit somewhat hard and can cause traction problems, try for boost first.
-
Sounds like a plan.
4th gear nitrous shot might be in the works. Gives me 30+mph to work with before I hit the traps.
-
10.90 car with 50 shot added ran 10.40's
-
congratulations, like the whole car specially the log manifold
-
You might want to try running a dp gauge, you can put it together cheap, goto HD get a couple feet of copper tubbing, drill and tap manifold, put copper tubing in a couple loose coils, add a compression fitting to go from the copper to normal nylon boost gauge. Go get a cheap air pressure gauge from HF or where ever, and done. Total setup should be under $25. This is a good tuning tool. In my experience this turbo should run 1:1 till about 35psim, and then climb slowly to about 1:2 at 40psim, and then will climb crazy after that and by 50psim your 75psi + drive.
If you do get to the point where you still need more out of the turbo GDS http://www.gillettdiesel.com/ (http://www.gillettdiesel.com/) has a 60mm compressor upgrade for $225. Or you can just jump to an HX40. :noel:
-
Were already running a gauge from the exhaust mani. But thanks for the info anyway.
Hx40 might be in the future. But i think Ill continue to use this one through NEXT year.

OK... I'm here to learn. I'm assuming this is so you can make sure the exhaust manifold pressure is less than the boost therefore not being restrictive? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It doesn't have to be less, but you should be careful once you get above 1:1.2 or so. In short it shows the limits of turbine flow.
-
I should make this a little more clear. It measures turbine restriction, and / or manifold restriction.
-
Huh, what a funny way to go about it. I normally dump in racegas and then crank the boost until it won't go any higher.
:P
-
Okay you have set the bar period  Well done sir
-

I seem to have HG issues when I just crank the boost till it won't go any higher, the most I have seen with an H1C personally in my own vehicle is 52psim and it was ~83psi drive. That combined with the nearly 2000 degree egt's makes for very short lived HG's. I have heard of guys getting close to 60psi out of them though. I would love to see the kind of numbers a D would put down @ 50psim from an H1C though. :-*
-
I have no desire to do that with a D16. The next D I have anything to do with the ports get hogged out to the point you can fist them as easily as you can fist hotrex's mom, and it'll like it.

So if the turebine and or manifold becomes a retriction... how inneficient does it have to get before Boost starts to fall off..... Reason Im asking is that I was seeing boost (and therefore TQ/HP) dramatically fall off above 7500 RPMs. I was assuming it was COmpressor being maxed out... But it could have been the turbiune housing... Actually I was thinking it was the turbvine housing moreso than the Compressor.... Hmmmmmmmmmmm... Shouldnt have that problem anymore but interesting... but with a divided housin i guess youd actually need 2 sensors, or would 1 be enough if the length/ volume were exactly the same... Id really like to see where the new setup falls

why not have two ports, one on each volute, then one gauge. not ideal, but it would work as long as everything else was running right

In my experience, this very's from turbo to turbo, and from setup to setup, but I have been as high as 2:1 drive pressure to manifold pressure respectively, and boost was still climbing. I have yet to be able to make it fall off. I need to find someone with a chipped stock 1.8T as they are known for the tiny turbo that chokes and falls off. This maybe more due to the fail of an internal wastegate then actual turbo choke though?
In my world of diesel, where you have pulling class's limited to charger inlet size (2.6", 2.8", 3" are all common class's) they run these chargers for all they are worth. There are pulling chargers in singles that will make close to 100psi, these typically are a non wastegated setup. Now guys with street chargers or 2.6" class chargers, typically run wastegates, and because most after market wastegates only have springs readily available up to ~25psi, and from again my experiance when you get about 40psi drive on a 25psi spring it push's it open.
So to combat this early opening you can either use: Boost pressure to the top port this only works for a bit till the drive pressure overcomes that as well, or drive pressure to the top port to help keep the gate closed until the desired pressure is hit, or run the wastegate completely on drive pressure, or higher budget race setups run closed loop c02 activation. This seems to be true of most gates is that as you get above 1.5:1 - 1.7:1 drive to pressure to rated spring pressure, the wastegate is starting to be forced open. So if for example: You had a 10psi spring, this would mean that by 15-17psi you would start to loose some of your drive pressure out the wastegate. Or if you had a 14 psi spring by 21 - 24psi drive you would start to see some loss.
Now to clarify this the only way you will get to 25psi on a 14psi spring is with some sort of boost controler, that will keep the wastegate from seeing the boost till you reach the 25psi. Again IMHO I think this is where you see a lot of setups that the boost falls off on there race tune is that they have a 7psi spring in the wastegate and then use the MBC or EBC to bring in the rest of the boost.
Ok let's bring this back to gasoline and it's counterparts, I know that there was a video recently of a DSM that runs a BW S372 @ 88psi. I can only assume that they ran it to that kind of pressure, because they were still making more power as they added psim.
Thoughts???

Internal gate failure.

I was kind of hoping for a bit more of a response then that. After all you responded to what was probably the most insignificant point in my 4 paragraph's (the vw bit), but thanks for clearing that up anyway. I still wonder what kind of drive pressures they see at like 25psi +
-
I'm not familiar with drive pressures, and I probably would have responded with more but I only read the first paragraph before the car was unloaded off the dyno.
-
Actually I would like to hear thoughts on this from you JD and from anyone else that is interested in this.
-
I think you need to find a VP44 truck and flash it for me.
Hope the checksum stuff works and it doesn't lock the ECU down. Let me know if it does.
-

Lock it down like make the truck undrivable? I am PMing a guy about 2hrs north of me, that has a 24v and is interested, I will see if someone can come up with a spare ecu for testing.
-
It'd brick the ECU, yah, or maybe just put it into the diesel equivalent of limp home mode. I could recover it with a BDM and a copy of the stock program, but there's time down and all that stupid stuff.
The CR trucks, the ECUs are supposed to run in the ~$200 range used. I expect the VP44's are somewhat cheaper. I'll talk smack to my boy with the CR and see if he can hook something up.
Also, I can pick up a '94 GMC dually for the cost of scrap. Runs/ran, needs batteries and has sat lo9ng enough the turbo needs rebuit. Was bought with front grill/fender damage a couple years back. The $EE ECMs are a known reverse engineerable quantity and would give me something to blow up in pursuit of diesel knowledge.
-
Damn, I'm an expert at the thread hijack.
Time to make a diesel thread in EM.

where are you at RPM/gear wise at the top of the track? its on 22x8x13s correct?

Im not sure but probably around 7500 or so in 4th. Plenty of room left.

wrong type of trannies Foowee. Mista Bone specializes in teh ones that break on cars. BVDT specializes in the ones that have penises.

Ask BDVT about trannies... that's his specialty.
Broke my M2Y4 case that has the Straights in it Saturday after the HT meet. ... Where the countershadft pinion is on the bellhousing side. Cracked the case 3/4 the way around the bearing....
Well shit, at least the gears are good to go :noel: ... This case has been raped on for a LONG time and been built 5 times. Got a M2F4 for 200 bux. Sold the gearset to dropout and put the tranny back together yet again last night... #12. Going in the car tonight and Leed will be here tomorrow. I have 10 Gallons of Trick slut 114 sitting in the garage.
And tomorrow off
:noel:
-
Trans felt fine on all 3 runs.
Only issue ive had is after I come out of the 2nd gear burnout it feels like the shifter is stuck in gear. Has done this to me for years. I have to pull on the shifter with all my power to get it back into neutral.
But I dont care.
-
Have you been out again since you fixed your exhaust leaks?
-
Nope, im in the process of installing a cage. Gonna try and remove any weight I can while im there.
-
do you still run without a hood at the track? if you're getting serious about weight is plexi/lexan windows in the future?
-
Lexan for the side quarters is a waste of time. I dunno what hatch glass is worth, on CRXs it's ~70 lbs. Use the stock glass to drape form your lexan, sir. Wick's (Wicke's?) aircraft supply should have a 4'X4' 0.062" sheet for $40-something plus ship.
-
I would only use polycarbonate - "Lexan" (SABIC Innovative Plastics [formerly General Electric Plastics]) on the windshield and have the scratch resistant shit applied to it. For the rest of the glass I would just run a normal acrylic glass - "Plexiglass" (SABIC Innovative Plastics [formerly General Electric Plastics])
-
This is aircraft stuff, the Wick's site lexan picture is the GE logo.
-
I am saying for the price / performance, I would only run "Lexan" in the windshield, and "Plexiglass" everywhere else.
-
if its not a street machine, i'd be fine with putting in something for the windshield. else, i don't think id run plastic for the front.
there was a place that i had bookmarked before my hd crashed this last time that had any and every kind of plexi/lexan you could want. they even had 'clearance' items that were extra or cut or whatever for cheap. i was thinking about getting some and seeing of i could mold them to stock windows at my friend's pizza place in his big ass oven

I'd never run plexiglass. That stuff shatters, and is sharp.

Tends to haze up in my experience as well.

So does the normal tempered glass that is in all the windows but the lami that is in the windshield.
-
Huh? There's laminated safety glass all around in American cars.

Both "saftey glass's" are designed to smash into small pieces. Normal glass breaks into big pieces.

Very sweet now get it on the bottle and drop it into the 9's . That'll probably be the cheepest car in the 9's ever
-
Whos gonna sell me a wet kit. Cheap.
-
Joe is going to run 9's.

I have a couple friends with the first gen Zex controller box, and some misc lines, one of which is Stuart of Yamaha GSXER quad fame, who also knows Tom. Let me see what I can hook up.
Hey, did you get to see that knob or what?

-
^^^^^^^^^^ :noel: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
-
You buying it easier than hitting 9's, huh?
-
You've solved it.
Ive got a 11 lb type r knob now.
-
smoochie boochie, bitchez smoochie boochie, bitchez we better see nines by may!! Nines with a total build cost of less than 5K including the car. That would probably make a bunch of people cry themselves to sleep.
-
Lol you guys are all getting ahead of yourselves.
Im not saying im not gonna try. I will, but the difference between mid 10's with no cage and 9.99 with a cage and nitrous is a LARGE gap to fill.
Hopefully it will do it.
-
The car I spent years working on was a mid 10 sec car on stock bore b16a/single disc act.
To get the car into the 9's took a 84mm b16a,twin disc the works
The difference is huge and why so many Hondas were running 10's for years before someone dipped into the 9's. 10's on a sohc is amazing already any faster speaks volumes for your dedication to this build.

If the car has it in it you will drive it there. 9.99 pass will be sick!
-
I feel even with the added weight from the cage the car can go faster with a few more lbs of steady boost.
If it goes 10.40 or better with the cage and a couple more psi, I think it will go 10.20 with some juice,
But like Chris M just stated, a lot of factors come into play when trying to break these kind of barriers.
-
This is true, the fact that the last trip to the track with no broken parts is an accomplishment.
-
But like Chris M just stated, a lot of factors come into play when trying to break these kind of barriers.
Most people block themselves off from new input when they make really good gains in certain areas. Everyone who takes things to the next level did so because they were convinced the guy that went before them was a tard, and fucked something up somewhere.
You have a sub-$1000 flying shitwagon. I recommend you look into suspension theory, sir.
-
i'm just going to throw this out there, but does your track allow preloaded wheelie bars?
-
Dont know, but wheelie bars are gonna be in the mix next year along with a fuel cel and topmount manifold.
-
im comin at ya with my euro d14 powered accord
quad mitsu 12bs nigga
-
nice. 23's with RPM to spare. makes me happy i went with M&H's.
-
400whp at 66% trottle nigga you know, standard isuue
-
all this makes me real happy and having high hopes because my car is sub 1300lbs without motor or trans and i only weight 130lbs. But mine is an eg hatch and i'm running a jdm d15b with an hx35
-
who weighs their car without a drive train?
wierd
-
someone with nothing better to do[prior owner of the car]
-
Status update? When we gonna see you get kicked off the track for running nines? Better be before summer!
-
sending Joe a free throttle body spacer to try to get a little more out of the motor :)
-
Chris your the man.
Im gonna be running the car on sunday at Atco raceway. Its an event day which will be weird for me. But hopefully even with half a cage installed it will go faster than 10.54.
Im looking for a nitrous kit, so mayb late in the season we will see some low 10's or 9.999
-
89-91 Si trans
10461.
Yep, again.
saw this in the wanted section
thought i'd post it here too
-
I've access to OBX trans for him, I helped on the install which means I kicked Shaun out of the way and did it myself.
-

-
Buk tried to re-weld the log and totally blew it into pieces.
-
He was selling the chassis like 6 months ago on here for like 500 bucks with no drivetrain. My assumption is he bought a nicer chassis to throw the motor in.
-
tube chassis? lexan windows? alum dash?
-
enough with all the guessing, if you know what happened just post it up.
-
He bought a corvette and wears a leather jacket now.
-
CRX
tube chassis? lexan windows? alum dash?

Mustangs dont get you laid sir. Corvettes and leather jackets get you pulling single 40 year old mom's thinking they scored a rich guy. little do they know that the blue book on the 90's vette is less than a newer civic.

Chassis built with stolen goods from construction site?
-
tube chassis? lexan windows? blue dash?
this?
-
Joe picked up a CRX that was a drag car. Lexan windows, one piece front end, custom suspension. He slapped his Vitara in it with my old topmount, but has not had much free time. Im sure he will post up once he gets to the track.
-
Hopefully the lexan isnt the cheap shit that scratches up easy that stuff is a death trap when sun hits it.
Car caged up?
-
Ive been out of the loop for a while guys. My apologies. Oh wait. Fuck you all, I dont care.
The old shitbox is in my driveway. I just need to pull some parts off it before I junk it.
New car is a 85 crx. Dont know when it will be running to be honest. I made some mounts and dropped my z6 in it as soon as I got it. But never did much more with it.
To be honest im sick of cars. Im a full time mechanic that hates his job and by the time i get home I dont want to even look at another car, let alone fab a whole bunch of shit up for one.
Will it run this year ? Yea probably. But im not rushing to get it done either.
-
I hope this automotive burnout doesn't happen to me.
Good luck with the project, keep wrenching.
