I have not posted anything about the Locost build since my intro wanted to wait till I started doing the turbo install... So here goes.
Here is the Weir log manifold kit with the DMS T25 install and the IC piping tacked in place.

looks good so far. when do you want that main hoop bent up? i may be getting a 1.75" die set soon, so you'll have a choice from 1.5" 1.625" or 1.75". i've got a valve cover i'd like powdercoated.
-
I am going to do the measurments for the hoop this week and I will give you a call.
-
Weir
Give the valvecover to dustin , I will drop it off at Ktowns as he is unfortunatley a friend.
Looks good Mike.

Man, I just stumbled acrost these locosts not to long ago and have been amped up on them sense. I am hoping to get started on one as soon as I clear out some other projects. Yours looks bitchen! What are you using for front spindles? Also, are you doing IFS in the rear or solid axle?

Yah, locosts are pretty badass. I bought a book called Kimini a while back which is basically a write-up of someone else's DIY build.

Been through that entire build too. That was an excellent car. I am so hooked on these things now I am almost tempted to get rid of the double to make space for this.
-
Definitely something on my long-term list of shit to do. First I need a garage, some money, some welding experience, etc...so it'll be a while.
-
yeah I am trying to cross it off my list too....

im liking this one

I might be blind but I haven't seen your build log on locost usa.
-
I am pretty sure I have seen it there. Can't find it now. I recognize the LCAs.
-
I have a build blog somwhere over ther I have not been keeping it up to date
-
Im thinking about start one soon. Off and on road d-series though
-
I do not think I have ever seen one built with a d-series motor. I think the only Honda motor I have ever seen used is an S2000.
-
I would love to see more pic's of this thing! Also more spec's!

Thanks, I wasn't signing up for that fucking site.
-
yeah sorry about the site I didn't know you needed to be a member.... lame.
What other spec's were you wanting to know???
-
Thanks, I wasn't signing up for that fucking site.
you don't want to either... Imports are slow , every car with a V8 runs 9 sec 1/4 miles and fucking your sister is ok.
-
What are you using for front spindles? Also, are you doing IFS in the rear or solid axle?
-
The front spinals are from the Miata and I am running the whole rear subframe out of the miata so it's IRS.
-
Doh, that was pretty obvious from your pictures. I suck at life ;D
-
LOL no worries...
-
Is it a book chassis or bigger?
-
It's bigger..... it's called a Mcsorley7+442
-
The only d series I have seen are that locost ariel atom from a 2000 ex and a sand rail on hater tech. And the rail was done very poorly. Yours is looking very good though. Keep it up
-
i need to build one of these, why havent i seen this before
sweet vid
Locost Drifting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDUv7kDfqto&feature=related#normal)
-
Only way it could be cooler is with a turbo-D in front and a turbo-D in back. Nobody can resist drooling over double-D's... ;D
That shits really cool though. I can only imagine even a miata motor will be atom-like in all aspects.
-
why such a tiny turbo?!?!?! You should at least do a 42/48 or 60/63 t3
-

It doesn't have VTEC dumbass. :P
-

I want 0 lag for autocrossing. So the T25 will work perfect for that, besides it was free and had just had a rebuild done on it.
-
kinda 1970 ugly with the body work but its still cool and functional.. is the frame from plans or a kit or you made it from scratch?

There are a few different types of plans. There are the "Book Plans" that come from "how to build a cheap sports car", or something like that, then they have some others like the 442 which is 4 inches wider, 4 inches longer, 2 inches taller, and a couple other variations.

1970 pan-am racers will still destroy your Hennessey Viper.

Lowerit came over yesterday and we started to build the Downpipe/exhaust

Spent some time working on the Locost this weekend, got the IC pipes all done and powder coated and the BOV installed. I wired up the MSD boost unit and the O2 signal modifier and the RRFPR. I also got the 1.8L injectors installed

Funny episode. ;D

wasnt there someone on ohmt who had built like an atom or someshit? who was that?
-
The spacers are small enough that they do not limit the heim movements. That is the reason for the beveled edge.
-
I picked up my rollbar today that Weir bent up for me. It's perfect like everything else he does

wasnt there someone on ohmt who had built like an atom or someshit? who was that?
His was better. I forgot the user name. But it was home made mid engine sr20det.
More creative, sure. Better? Despite his design and fab that's doubtful. ktown may only be doing "just another" 7 clone, but it's a PROVEN chassis design that's stomped a mudhole in modern supercar performance figures.
-
Well the Locost is sitting on the trailer right now about to head out to the first autocross of the season..... Lowerit and I drove is up and down my street a few times yesterday and seems to be working well.
-
awesome. now get that shit i sent you coated!
-
We need some ripper vids!
-
Well the day went better then I had expected! I did 7 runs in the Locost and nothing broke and I set a faster time then 80% of the people there. Found a few small issues that need to be fixed, but other then that very happy.
A friend took some video's and hoping he will send them in the next few days so I can post them.
Yes Weir now I will get your shit powder coat :)

I would strongly advise putting a diagonal bar in that roll bar.

Where in Ont is that?
I'm just assuming you live here in Ont since you had Aaron make your roll bar.

It's at the old World War 2 training base runways in Picton Ontario

Fuel issues. We had never driven the car more then 10 feet before I took it to the autocross. It would bog out if I got onto it to fast. Going to take some time to sort out all the issues with this thing. I was still very happy with how it ran.
-
I drove it and mid throttle (rolling into it) it took off , full throttle it bogged. The RRFPR was causing some issues and some vac line orientation , seems to be fine now , just need a fuel pressure gauge.
The parts on this were part of the SC kit that I got.
-
Ditch the crap management and get a MS. Not my favorite setup for just any car, but the Miata is the testbed for MS1/2, and they run one of those cars very well.
-
The plan is to do MS down the road.. Right now its just not in the budget.
-
Well a few weeks ago I was out lapping the car and the rear diff mount broke. This pulled the drive shaft out of the tranny that then smashed the end off the tranny and wrapped the main wiring harness around it and wripped it in 2. So I have installed a new tranny but looks like I am also going to need to replace the shorten drive shaft :(

JD Doesn't approve until it has big floppy clam curtains.
-
Actually I have no opinion beyond pointing out that no heterosexual man would put faggoty cycle fenders on their Locost.
-
guess it's a good thing I do not have fenders on it.

What do you run on your Locost?

I see clamshells in his future.

Because locosts get you laid, and bitching about someone's locost on the internet does not. :noel:
Lead by example and make up a MS system for him. Then tune it over the phone like we know you can.

you have to respect the amount of work that went into this.
whats up with the exhaust sound. after all that work it sounds like you really
cut some corners on the exhaust.
you should'a put a 4ag in there. haha.
nice job. i really want to do this now.

The exhaust is 2.5" mandrel bent SS , the problem is that it's running a RRFPR and MSD setup and loading on fuel. I was there when it broke @ shannonville , car was running a lot smoother , he still wants to do mega squirt

Yeh what he said!

It was doing a pretty decent job of keeping up to a formula ford car around the track. Not bad for a backyard homebuilt special.

That hasn't had all it's bugs worked out yet, whose owner isn't fully familiar with it yet? Yeah, it's awesome and there's still room to grow.
-
There is a ton of room to grow with the car and once the bugs ar worked out it will be a wepon both in an autocross and lapping. But for now I am just happy to have it running again.
Sadly MS wont be happening this year and might not even happen next year. So I will just make due with what I've got and make the bext of it.
-
Finally built a dash nd installed some gauge in the car. Tach, Water temp and boost

I like the gauges , but is the brick really needed? We need to fix the cowl , it's saggier then my nutz

how do you go about registering this thing to make it street legal. that would be awesome.
i did a MS on a 4agte. im pretty sure that diy tuning has a write up on the miata too.
cost me 250 out the door.
-

All states are didderent. Basicly safety stuff and proof nothing on its stolen. That's why I keep an old civic title that I scraped.
-
the problem is not getting it on the road here in Ontario. The problem is getting insurance on it. So it will only ever be a track car.
-

Here in Ontario. You either register the car as a home made car (and there needs to be some kind of proof it's home built). Which only requires a safety like a normal car. and a regular e-test. Or, register it as a kit car (Then there needs to be a ton of receipts showing you paid for the parts and some sort of kit). Which requires a full out structural inspection and safety. And similar e-test... I think..
But it's up to the person at the desk whether it gets registered as a home made or kit car.
However, finding a shop to do the safety is another story.
Then the car needs to be appraised. In order to get insurance. But apparently there a few companies that will actually insure it.
-
who the hell are you??
-
keelay, that's PinkNinja.
-
i wonder if liability only would be cheap
-
No not really. They list the car as the year you are done building it not the year of the car the parts came from. So insurance look at it as a new 2010 car. Plus it's a home built so it went right to facility insurance
-

what if you used a frame from something old?
-
then it would not be a Locost......
-
damn, a lot of aspects i didnt think about.
that pretty much sucks. cause it would be really fun to go out on the streets with one of these.
-
The US does things differently. It's a state by state affair. I'm pretty sure if it's a legal vehicle then they have to give you liability insurance... or do in NC, anyway.

I've seen a locust or a seven just up the street from with license plates.
I've talked to a few kit car guys here and they said it was relatively easy license one.
Most of the time they just stamp a number on the frame that meets the state's requirements (do not remember the exact requirements :-\).
I also was told that there is insurance companies who specialize in kit cars that you get insurance from relatively cheap.
Just need some appraisals and such.
Check out Kit Car magazine in the back there is always some info. on how to insurance even for Canadia. ;D
-
good info.

You have inspired me. We finished a sick supra build for a very wealthy customer recently to haul around to car shows. The first time ever that this car didnt take best engine was to a civic with a turbo diesel truck motor in it.He already has a $300000 supra so you get the idea. I think a lowcost with a twin turbo viper motor should do the trick. Prolly cost him alot less.

Took my son for a quick rip down the street on Tuesday before I was going to put it on the trailer to take it to an autocross, I blew out the gasket on the intake manifold. So today I replaced the gasket and fixed the problem. Well I had the manifold off I powder coated it and the fuel rail.
