Title: ebay 16g, bad bearings???NEVERMIND
Post by: MAJORAHOLE on July 16, 2010, 10:50:02 PM
my shit was slow as fuck to spool, no i can barely get full boost in 3rd.
i though my cat was clogging it, but after running straight dp its the exact same.
i get out of vacume and it sits at 0 till like 4000 rpm, then it slowly creeps up to like 7-8 if im lucky by redline.
shaft doesnt have alot of play, some minor side to side. no in and out.
could my bearings still be shit, considering its a cdm turbo?

i might go out and take all my shit apart to make sure there is no leak before turbo

no smoke either, btw (well no more than i've all ways blown)

This first, then maybe try the wastegate.

Ebay gaskets tear/blow out, ebay WG's leak hardcore around the valve stem into the lower chaimber (below diaphragm), diaphragm rips, bov's start to leak (diaphragm or broken spring), pcv valve breaks leaking boost into crankcase, CDM couplers tear or pop off from bad clamps, other crap I can think of but probably isn't it.

An easy way to fix slow spool is to increase displacement. Well not easy, just more effective manly.

after redoing my downpipe and exhaust, i find a crack in my intercooler where they tried to tow my car from last time i was arrested. a lil JB weld and its all good, plus no cat and new muffler.

That is most definitely not a boost leak test. lol

Best way it to pressure test the system and soapy water.

I would consider that the ONLY effective way.

Besides some leaks simply don't leak until there is higher pressure involved.

well ya, but im ghetto like that. i take each piece then cover one side with my hand, and the other to my mouth. just didnt do it for the ic

I replace the TB and turbo with 2 pvc plugs - 1 has a pressure gauge, one has a valve stem. If it holds 15+ psi for few mins, its usually good. Heat won't usually open an existing crack that remains sealed at ambient temps.

BTW you'll want to pressurize the BOV nipple too. W/o pressure inside them, some bov's will appear to leak when you pressure test the pipes.

That is not ghetto, thats plain retarded.

Your method may have worked to find this particular leak if you had done it, but 80% of them it wont.

Many times couplers look fine, nice and tight clamps and still leak.   Also many things don't leak under low pressure, get 10-15psi in it and it leaks like a whore with the drip.

Wow, you know that you have gotten 100% of your boost leaks. Thats impressive since you haven't actually tested for them. Congrats.

rofl
Pure genius.

Especially when a real tester costs less than $10 to make, and takes a fraction of the time to do compared to taking each piece off and blowing though it.  And you actually find out if your couplers leak too.  As well as all those little leaks that hurt performance but aren't easily noticed while driving.

Don't get your panties in a bunch.

Pure genius.
i know, its fuckin cool isn't it?

as far as im concerned it worked, so therefore 100% of the time.
BOO-YA!!
maybe i should have made it clear that i dont need a perfectly perfect no pressure loss charge pipe system, im running 9psi at max.
i just wanted it to go back to the way it was, and now its back to normal.
so dont preach to me about "proper" leak testing, as i dont care
thanks for your concern though

and fuck off
