Title: drunk bike build
Post by: 7808 on September 08, 2010, 12:32:12 AM
had the bike sitting for probly almost 2yrs started it over a year ago, then i had to remodel a house i bought all winter, finally got it ride-able the last couple months and rode it probly 1st couple days of august for the 1st time and it was awesome. i made alot of one-off parts so it took me a while. also i was half drunk usually on malt liqour for alot of this build,  it was the only way id get anything done

started with a piece of shit (tackd together) drop seat hard tail i got off ebay, only one ive seen at least anyone was stupid enough to use,  came crooked as shit had to bust it up and put it back together best i could with levels and squares, also extended it a few more inches. no idea how much strech it has now, looks like alot
hand made under-seat fuel tank with custom open loop fuel system electric pump and brass manifold
good year air bags for seat springs
35mm clip ons for handlebars i made from spare tube
roller skate wheel tensioner (took forever to make) on bottom with a threaded coilover type adjustment and bumper on top
lots of space contraints because of the drop seat and below seat gas tank and airbags .. no tank on the backbone to hide stuff under either. had to mount the battery in front of the engine between the down tubes

its still dont done alot of wires and tubes to clean up

good job K00LKRAFT (id hate to see there race car frames) here u can see how fucked up it was

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi114.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn263%2F7808%2Fchop%2Fchop2%2Fkkframe2.jpg&hash=6986eb525a75e9f37bd108e4a56bd528bd475881)

i also decided all bikes seem to have the same lookin tanks and i decided i would mke a tank that used up all the space under the seat, so i made a cardboard template and cut all the pieces out of 16ga sheet using only angle grinder again full of malt liquor
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi114.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn263%2F7808%2Fchop%2Fchop2%2FP1020238.jpg&hash=9d71a179bf38502f26d74c8544197b4404ced042)

i used a low pressure fuel pump made for carbs and hid it where the electric starterd used to be under the bike.  dont ever buy a mr gasket finline fuel pump, i burned 2 out within a month no idea why, one went out while my friend was on it couple mile from my house

considering i dont remember how i made half the shit or remember much of the welding, and the piece of shit hartail i started with i think it turned out well

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi114.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn263%2F7808%2Fchop%2Fchop2%2FP1020395.jpg&hash=0d58c91759d570b19740eab226f3338e9dd39217)

the chain tensioner was pretty much nessisary beause of how long the bthe chain was and didnt have alot of rooom to adjust the back wheel, i also made ssome back wheel adjusters that i was obviously not sober and i dont have pictures but they work

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi114.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn263%2F7808%2Fchop%2Fchop2%2FP1020378.jpg&hash=dff90510a71fa3708a4d0aea9917a14b075e53f1)

basicly bent a rod and welded "cups" that hold the spring

here you can se how low and long it sits compared to the jihad honda

got a new chinko rear tire friend took a pic when i was trying to wreck it

Lol, carb setup looks like it's poised to suck your balls off.

I'm not much of a bike guy, but I can appreciate the work & engineering put into it. Looks good, and I think the gas tank was a good idea. I'm curious if tractor diaphragm pumps might work for fuel. They use crankcase pulses to move fuel like a 2-stroke carb does. They are kinda pricey though, unless you get them at wholesale.

http://www.bmikarts.com/shop/?shop=1&cat=175 (http://www.bmikarts.com/shop/?shop=1&cat=175)

Scroll down for Mikuni crankcase pumps.  The single outlets are PLENTY for 60hp Briggs race motors with fat fuckin carbs.  They push fuel on both the vacuum and positive pressure pulses... they're really cool.  I can watch the fuel pulses pump up the line.  Shipping from them is kind of high, but you get your shit in 2 or 3 days.  I ordered a rebuild kit with mine just so I had one handy.

If you get one of those get a dual outlet... it won't hurt and will give you wiggle room.

i got some electric inline pump i think its a diesel lift pump or some shit but it looks more oem and it sounds like a diaphram type and it was like $35 at my local parts store, i think it will last longer then the piece of shit mr gasket pumps.

and the carbs did actually suck your balls in, or at least your pants, and it caused problems.  so i whipped up some elbows that have been on there for a while

I really like that chain tensioner you made. I'm going to make something similar for my bike.

Love the dropseat look, of course. How many people do you get saying you can't ride it because it doesn't have a gas tank?

Morons were always telling me that there's no way I could ride my bike because it was too low.  ::)

I think the home brew fab turned out really nice, you should take that to a show and see how many people you can tempt into making their own machine.

Is that the same Yammy motor that Skye's all hot about?

i love that bare bones look,  that tank idea is badass, and the drop seat turned out pretty good, nice work.
Here's my pile i threw together this summer, nothing real radical, other than maybe the suicide shifter set-up.

what I want to know is how you title shit like that.  Around here no one has a title for reasonably priced chopping material, or they want 2500 for a pos bike from 79.

These guys offer probably the cheapest weld-on hardtail for the xs650 for $220... same one i used on my bike, all you need is a sawzall and a welder pretty much to do it yourself

Mine's just titled as a 79 yamaha still, no inspection or any of that bullshit in wisconsin, luckily. They are starting to get pretty pricey though because of the growing popularity, but you can still find a decent running stock one for under a grand.

These bikes are fun as hell, and dirt cheap to build if you know what your doing; got maybe $1500 into mine and it gets more looks and comments than any 50k billet barge 150 cubic inch S&S pile of shit.
Here's a couple more links with a lot of rad bikes and tech info.

all you need really is a good title, on these bikes the vin is just stamped onto the neck, which you can do with HF letter/number stamp kit thing, only thing they fuked with me about was the vin is the same as the engine number, on newer bikes its a differnt number, where i live they want the negine # when you transfer a bike title

Local is trying to sell an xs back to me for 400 that he just had a tcbros welded onto.
It still needs alot of work as that's about as far as he got, but it has a good title and complete engine.

Tempting, I'm not fond of the cookie cutter tc bro triangle look, but it would be a quick throw together.

You can go to hell with this shit. I have enough on my plate without building a bike from scratch. I already had the idea in my head and now this has just made the decision to start. I have an 81 Kawasaki title and 3 cb750 engines laying around. Guess what I'm doing this weekend?
