Title: the new project UPDATE! Vg30e 70mm
Post by: DasPoop on June 03, 2012, 01:11:32 AM
so I sold the miata and made bank on it (3000$ profit) so I bought a semi beater 240 that needs timing chains. ordered a bunch of turbo stuff and pulled a turbo off a 6.5 gm diesel. Going MS for fuel/spark and crank on the stock KA till it blows then build it.
Hoping to rip off a 10 sec pass with the stock motor. Guys have gone 10.80s with 380rwhp and everyone has a different opinion on what the stock motor will take.
Oh and the flux core will be rampent in this build.
Car is auto btw but I have some down and dirty cheap tricks to make it shift like a built turbo 350.

The ka24 smacks out a fuck ton of tq. I've always wanted to do a rhmt build on one.

Interested in this one.  Got a buddy that built one of these up with MS but could never get it working right, I may be adopting that project in the near future.

Some issue with the MS needing fewer teeth on the ignition trigger wheel, or maybe you can buy a 90s ford ignition module instead...  Let me know how it goes for you

Stealth the dizzy has 2 rings in it. the 360 tooth ring is useless to anything except a great decoder or the stock ecu the other ring has 4 unequal length but same falling edge slots. For dizzy mode with batch or semi injectors leave all 4 slots and your golden I think I am going to run a Wasted spark setup and toss a little jb weld and run a 4-1 wheel which the ms will have no problem picking up either. Same type of setup can be used for the vg30 as well. As for this car does anyone really know if I have to take the head off to remove the timing chains?? oil pan I could see but really the head? if it comes off the motors coming out and getting a stock parts rework with looser ring gaps and a little more room to take care of the heat.

Or just ditch that dizzy and just pick up a 36-1 trigger wheel from eBay for $9.99 and use that to do a wasted spark set up.

Oh shit,
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi824.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fzz167%2FSlotRacer%2FIMG_20120707_211827.jpg&hash=ebbb543612aa2b89010443e604dfb81427f78e5d)

And fuck your 36-1 foolery use what you have given it has a distributor now why would i want to overcomplicate that we make 1600hp with a msd belt drive dizzy and i tell ya what my vac cleaner has a bigger belt than it uses i am not worried.

vg30e out of a pathfinder
Jatco 4n71b automatic-89 300zx turbo(strong very strong auto)
T-70 turbo
Megasquirt.

down and dirty fast as fuck.

Btw I have a spare side feed rail so we can test a few injectors ;-) I am going to raid some side feeds for decapping.

Found out tonight the oilpan needs some lovin to get the motor where I want it. Hopefully ripper vids by the end of the month.

If the seals are relatively good, I can tee off my current rail and test them. I'd just have to spend a few seconds to purge the air out.

IIRC, sidefeeds usually have a very narrow spray when decapped. I'm sure this wont matter for this setup tho. Flow enough hot air and it will just evaporate :P

A 36-1 wheel mounted on the crank pulley or cam gear and 1 vr sensor is complicated ? Cheaper, and more accurate that most distributor setups

Ok so for an update I get to work on the car when I can but here goes.

I was going to turbo the motor in fact I still might however I have myself a sweet m90/vg30 tbi manifold in minty shape and a machine shop at my disposal. SO its getting a belt and a set of long tubes. Even more bizzare is i am making it carbed. I have learned to love the holley 4bbl and know every inch of its opperation so its going draw thru.

The trans is getting sent out to a local shop at the expense of setting up a draw thru turbo grass drag sled with his son. Full rebuild with "tricks"

The driveshaft pictured is the stock 240sx yup it fits like a glove I was a bit worried but was amazed it slid in.

I had to modify my rear sump pan by chopping about 2.5" out of the sump. I am either going to make kickouts for it or run a big -16 line from a side of it to a surge tank of sorts.

I think this counts as porn. We are building a set at work for a 44ft race boat twin whipple 4L blowers on top of 623ci billet hemi this is an old pic I will snap a new one soon.

Neverfuckingmind.  Found it.

FRONT SUMP J30 MAXIMA OIL PAN.  I can't yell that hard enough through the pc.

Maybe a little biased but i approve this build.   :noel:

I have all the timing shit you'd need for your ka if it's a dual cam.  4 chains (used and new) 2 tensioners (used and new)   New guides (And because I'm an intellectual being,  upper because it's a faggot and causes more harm than good.  They belong in the trash).   Holla.  Got loads of ka shit i've been trying to get rid of.  =D

I love the build but I hate having to change my screen res to 640x480 to see what's in those pics! If I could find my old phone I'd give it to you just for the camera.

I hope you can get the megasquirt running.  It's funny though because diyautotune has a pretty good writeup on their page.  MOST go with nistune these days on the newer j30 maxima 28 pin ecu.   Z31 turbo stock map bin uploaded, tweaked up and whatnot.  I really dont believe in hype.  MS isn't a bad system.  I think it gets a bad rep more often than not when a solution exists not involving different management all together.....like taking the easy way out and getting a nistune.

Are you gonna cut the hood and leave that shit exposed or cowl it?

So much fucking torque.   I like it.

SO enough about the bullshit, I changed directions yet again. TURBO is def the way to go. Its got the best parts china has to offer. I am a cheap bastard so the manifold tubing was a leftover viper exhaust actually. very nice quality. I am hustling to get this done before family takes over so its consuming copious amounts of my time. I still plan to strip all the wiring out of the car and wire it up simple like it should be. who the fuck needs 40 shades of dash lights anyways. Oh and seeing is how gas has skyrocketed and e85 is made 20 min from my door stop you get where I am going.

Looking good. Interesting wastegate placement and no overcomplicated shit

Have you tested the hood fitment with that intake yet?

Using stock relays to wire your harness up?  It's better to go ms like you were talking about instead of trying to wire up a stock ecu....unless you have nistune or get a jim rape technologies ecu.  I'm forcing my hand in that direction as of this past week.  *sigh* It would make the swap way easier.   If you need help finding oem turbo and na bin files for a starting point, lmk.

Keep up the good work!!  You're kicking my ass right now but i'm about to catch up suckaaaaaa!

He moved to Colorado last month, I haven't heard from him since. He was trying to sell this car, or at least offered it to me. It would probably cost more to cart it from WI to CO than to sell for scrap and re-purchase. It would also be smarter, since cars there have much less rust.

10-4  I saw another "family member" pop up on nico yesterday (recent build) and wondered if it was the same car.   Nothing wrong with a man trying to move up in the game.  Do work!
