ok so heres what I got so far.

I plastigauged my mains and got,

1.  .0017
2.  .0017
3.  .0017
4.  .0017
5.  .0018

service limit on them is .0025 so im good........kinda
bearings have some scoring in them like it ran a hunk of shit through the oil and scored them, but the crank is mint so im gonna order a new set.

Ive only been able to plastigauge rods # 2, 4, 6, and 8 and they are

2.  .0016
4.  .0017
6.  .0015
8.  .0016

Ninja edit.....
1.  .0015
3.  .0017
5.  .0017
7.  .0017
service limit on them is .003 so im good there, and they look pretty minty. so im gonna run them. Gonna check 1, 3, 5 and 7 for shits and giggles

SO at the end of the day, I think im gonna order main bearings, and maybe some rings. Still on the fence with the rings.

those are
top ring .030-.035
2nd ring .039-.043

service limit on those are suppose to be top ring is .023 and 2nd ring limit is .033

so im about .010 over on both those but im thinking im just gonna say fuck it and run them.

Your plan sounds good. Leave the rings, better to be a touch loose than butted and broken.

Idk man, I'm sure it would probably be fine, but for $30 why not replace them.

And here is some flux core madness. Laying on your back under a car welding above your head in a garage that's 88° @ 9 pm at night is not my idea of fun. And on top of that it kept trying to catch the undercoating on fire. So I would weld for 10 seconds and then put the fire out and then do it all over again.

Drivers side rear

Drivers side front

Pass side rear

Pass side front
Welding next to the fuel line was kinda sketchy

Might have missed it, but did you level the car up before welding them in?

Not talking about on the suspension, the actual car itself.

I did pull out the tape measure and the car was 1/16 of a inch different from front to back. So I just left it like that. Pretty sure the tolerances from gm in 1966 weren't even that close.

Measured from a level floor?

Ok so I got my new bearings, and some arp bolt lube. Shit works well.

Got them installed and plastigauged.

Came out like (I like to write the results of all my measurements right on the parts so I don't loose a piece of paper with everything written down)

1.    .0016
2.    .0014
3.    .0013
4.    .0016
5.    .0016
And thrust play is .003
Everything is Just a hair tighter than b4 but the bearings are mint. So I re cleaned everything after I checked everything and installed the crank with some assembly lube and now that's all done.

Hope to have the pistons all cleaned by Monday and installed.

Ok so I have the whole bottom end together. Plastigauged 1, 3, 5 and 7 also since I didn't have the numbers b4.

1.  .0015
2.  .0016
3.  .0017
4.  .0017
5.  .0017
6.  .0015
7.  .0017
8.  .0016

So all is good there and here is the pics.

So next steps are to paint block, install cam/chain/gear, inspect oil pump and then install or order new, paint install covers.

Hope to have all that done by next weekend.

I haven't had a whole lot of time to do much work. But I did manage to get the block painted, cam and chain cleaned and installed, oil pump pulled apart and checked, looked good so I cleaned it up and installed it. Cleaned, lubed and installed the lifters in 2, 4, 6 & 8. Son just woke up from his nap so out of rebuild mode and into dad mode.

I have some money burning a hole in my pocket. I need to order up a megasquirt. So if any of your bitches know of anyone selling one let me know.

Hp cost to much. I can get a ms2 with everything I need for like $370 and it's fairly easy to use with all the other denmah files out there. If I was to use a stock ecu with a editor I would go with efilive.

And I thought about doing hp/efilive and having it tuned, problem is cost, and even if ross was to tune it he's 80 miles from me and I'm not about to tow it that far for the first fire up and try to fix all the small shit that might be wrong and waste his time while I chase down shit like oil leaks or what ever it may be.
