Working on my 99 civic. Old setup was a 57 trim on a stock sleeve b16 with cp pistons/eagle rods, precision intercooler, made around 450whp on 23lbs, don't know what it was at on 30lbs, but it was significantly faster. Got bored one night and tore it down. Easily the worst mistake i've ever made in my life. While it was in 1k pieces in my garage I was browsing H-T and came across a bunch of dudes parting out there baller shit for cheap because they realized they could'nt afford to have a race car. So I ended up making the 2nd biggest mistake of my life and bought all of it for a fwd econocar that I completely hate. It's starting to come together though and should be running by late april/beginning of may. I will probably document the rest of the build on here as long as I don't get banned.

Got some skunk2 pro1's for $200 on hater tech so I decided to check v2v clearance with them. I have .5mm o/s valves in my head so I thought it might be prudent. Turns out it was definitely a good idea I needed at least 2 degrees separation to have .030 clearance v2v which is probably not enough and too much separation for what pro1's normally degree in at. So I sold them for $350 and ordered a set of custom cams from webcams. They are supposed to be here wednesday and I'll do this shit all over again.

Yeah I'm from Bremerton, went out to bremerton raceway a couple times a few years back and first time I was having boost leak problems, and then the 2nd time I kept hitting boost cut at 31lbs, so I never got a clean pass in. Did run like 12.0@120 on spring pressure like 14lbs.

It will be at Speedfactory, I know enough about tuning to get into some serious trouble, so I leave that shit to people who've done it for awhile. It's basically a copy of my old setup minus he is doing the ls/vtec thing and I did sort of a long runner mini-me manifold for him. I think his goals are like 450whp on pump.

That's about the only thing I don't approve of. Bare hands + carpet/dust + bearings don't mix. Otherwise I like the fact you're doing it all yourself. Having a pro tune it isn't a bad idea at the 400+ level.

I understand your concerns, but nearly the entire room had a sheet of painters plastic on the floor, and I don't wear gloves because I hate not being able to feel anything. With that being said i'm sure I'll fucking spin a rod bearing at 11,000 rpm because a piece of carpet is stuck to inside of one of my crank journals, in which case you can punch me in the face and stomp on my balls.
I'm glad people aren't shitting on me for taking it somewhere else to get it tuned. I concur with the 400+ thing, which is why I'm taking it to James since I am hoping to make well over 2 times that, and I've heard lots of good things about leed, but I have no idea how to get ahold of the man, and i don't feel like waiting.

Yeah, as everyone knows I'm not experienced in the engine building thing but I don't see how something softer than metal will damage metal. I could understand maybe metal or sand causing a problem, but I don't see how dirty oil would be any less harmful than a little dust or strand of carpet.

I've built a lot of engines, and I don't buy into the whole meticulous/precision/clean room shit. I've done a few torture tests specifically to argue (against myself) the need. Mostly I feel like it's done for piece of mind, and since I don't really give a fuck I do it how I like. Now if I ever did one for a "customer" that would be different, because you always need to take extra precautions to ensure nothing bad happens which could ruin your name, and I think that's where a lot of the hoopla came from regarding precautions during engine assembly.

we went down pretty early this morning, he wanted to have some mounts fabbed for his radiator and a few other things done before the tune. He ended up making 445whp/310tq @17lbs creeping to 19 by 9k. He's gotta fix a few things like the oil return and just generally tighten down every bolt, seems like a lot of shit came loose on the dyno, but I'll probably post a ripper vid later this week.

So last night I was letting my friend help me put the "extra's" on the block so I can get the head on and degree my cams, and not only did he break off one of the water pump bolts, but he also broke off the easy out. I tried tonight to drill it out for about 2 hours and 10 bits later, I gave up. Ended up modifying the pump a little and drilling a new hole just outside of the o-ring and I drilled a new hole in the block and tapped it and put a helicoil in it for strength. Hopefully that shit holds, or else I'm welding that mother on. Also had to order some more block o-ring material (18 gauge copper wire), and some oil pump bolts. I am going slow with this and we'll say this week I'll work on getting engine in car, next week is fab week, then electrical and fuel, and tune is scheduled right now for may 1.

SHitty man, have you ever tried left hand drill bits b4? Ive tried them 3 times, and every time I tried them it pulled the broken bolt right out. And if it didnt pull it out, you have just drilled your hole to try an easy out. Just a thought

I wanted to keep the compression real low cause I plan to drive the shit out of it on pump gas looking for around 600whp or wherever SF's dyno max's out on pump. Race gas tune I guess will be on the dynojet.

5 is fine..... i went with .0045 the first time and my pistons looked new when i took them out to check everything after the overrev. they were at a loose .006 when i put it back together this last time... HAHAHHAHA. Im sure the motor is at .007 by now

My supertechs are at .004 in the ZC and they sound like a diesel when it is cold.

My Wiseco's are noisy as fuck but like said once it heats up its gone. Mine were at .0045 too.

Didn't say it was completely dependant, just mostly. You can have 2 pistons made of the same alloy and be of the same design with the exception of one of them having the pin offset slightly. The offset one will make less noise, if its offset correctly.

Made some pretty good progress tonight.
Got the clutch on (had to do this twice, forgot the fuckin pilot bearing first time) and then put the tranny and stock mounts on (still waiting on my solid mounts)

Chopped out the center of the core support and started looking at where I'm going to mount the turbo. Finally think I decided on this spot, a manifold will be easier than top mount and I will make more powaz. It's actually going to be up and to the right about 2" from where it's at in the pic, but I need to cut out some more of the core support to fit it.

600 is just a random # I through out there. I have a pretty big sack, don't really care if it blows up so we'll see what happens. I intend to max out James' dynapack on pump gas whatever that is. Race gas tune to follow on c16, should be somewhere around 900 if it stays together.
I really hate e-racing so i don't like to predict #'s. So the car is just gonna make what it makes. boost controller @ 100% duty cycle on the dynojet with c16 and whatever it maxes the dynapack out on pump 92 or whatever it is.
My setup should be pretty efficient, large ports, big valves, long runner manifold, s372r 24x12x3.5 garrett intercooler core, ID2000's, m&w ignition...blah blah blah

Oil return comes out of the turbo about 1" above the fitting in the moroso pan and it's a straight shot.

maybe its just the angle, but that intercooler doesn't look like its going to fit very easily under the bumper? Looks tits so far man. When I go turbo, I'm def thinking about a similar turbo mounting. Maybe a little higher in the bay so I can use an airfilter without it sticking out the front bumper though. Those long straight runners should really help spool

I wanted to tuck the turbo back also, but I couldn't get it to fit with the 4" downpipe. I already have short radius elbows and it's so huge I had to space it out pretty far from the block, and I still might have to do a couple pie cuts. The bumper fits...barely.
Should spool ok, not that I really care too much. I have a 1.00 and a 1.25 a/r to choose from. I am going to go with whatever gives me the biggest powerband, I suspect that will be the 1.25 since I can rev it up to 11kish.

I made sure it would fit, that's why the inlet endtank is so small I had to move the intercooler 3" closer to the turbo so I could even get a outlet endtank on with the stock front bumper. The em1 bumper is much bigger than a eg bumper. I'm wasn't about to run one of those fiberglass widebooty fronts on my streetcar.

No. I wanted to, but the bumper is in the way can't stick the endtank out far enough to clear the frame rail, so I'm going to weld a u-bend onto the end then go in front of the passenger tire and up over the front of the transmission.
Going to mount my ignition over the passenger frame rail where the standard hole is that everyone else runs their intercooler pipe through.

Haha thanks, but I am not gonna weld anything like that for someone else. I am not comfortable having shit out there that could crack and be associated to me, so I only do fab for very close friends or I do it for free, not to mention I don't have a lot of time so who knows if you'd ever actually see it. I call it "stopping the hotrex before it starts". Plus those welds aren't actually any good...I figured since the downpipe was so easy to do and nothing but looks really I just fuse welded it.

more thank likely...I only weld 2 times/year typically which are my qualification welds so I can stay a qualified a nuclear welder, even though I will never in my life weld anything nuclear related.
Car is about done, I just dropped it off at Speedfactory, I am off vacation now, so they are finishing up some of the small things like fuel pump wiring and ignition wiring and dumptubes because I don't have any time now that I'm back to work. no I went on vacation from work to stay home and work on the car. Now I'm off vacation and can't work on it so speedfactory is finishing it up. I'm tired of working on it. It's been like 2 years in the making I was so sick of it that I wanted to set it on fire so I didn't have to see it any more. I'm glad it's Hater tech approved, all the parts came from hater tech people parting their cars out, so it's only fitting, but I built it by myself in my one car garage with regular hand tools and a welder.

We started her up tonight and set idle (1250) and checked everything for leaks. Found a few problems, the sump has a very very very slight drip on one of the corners I welded, the tacho isn't working with m&w ignition, and the oil sandwhich plate was leaking all over the place. Fixed everything but the fuel drip, which isn't enough to worry about right now, though it may keep me from bringing it to the dynoday.
Few more things of note: Need to clean up the wiring, it's not like indian bad, but I am not happy with it. Need to get bumpers trimmed still, put fenders on, fix fuel leak, and price out converting to full exhaust. Even just idling it's pretty loud, I feel if I still lived in WV it would be ok, I know I'll be getting tickets out the ass here though. Tried out the 2-step for shits and giggles and it litterally took my breath away the bangs hit my chest so hard.
Should have pump tune done tomorrow, then I'll fix/clean up the little things, drive it around a little bit and make sure it's good, then race gas tune in a month or so.

I low centered my blazer back in the day, put a dime size hole in the fucking tank... Suffed the hole full of jb weld tghat i let start to kick before attemopting to plug the hole... fuilled the hole with gas still in the motherfucker and it seald perfectly. Never even bothered changing the tank for the next 4 ears i owned it... LOL. Then sold it. It was fine.

made 515 on 13.5lbs creeping to 15ish pump 92. I have the wrong mac valve for hondata and hondata changed the software so you can vary the frequency for different mac valves, but we didn't know what to change it to since we had no idea which mac valve I had so we couldn't get it to work right. So that's where the car is at right now, but it runs and mostly drives. Have the fuel leak still, need to permanently wire the tach up, oil leak from one of the catch can fittings on the back of the block, suspension needs adjusted down some, bumper cut out, the list goes on....don't think it's gonna make the dyno day with this car because I have a 24 hour shift on friday too so I don't think I'll be able to get it finished. Definitely will be there but in the stock integra prolly.....

regardless of how big a turbo, the knock limit of 92 isnt gonna do a whole lot more than that regardless of where the CFM or pressure is at... curious as to where tq was at, which would tell the story...
But if the DID do it at speedfactiory, the dyno had to be at least JUST ABOUT maxxed

I'll try and get some pics/graph/vids posted later tonight...I have the wrong mac valve so the boost was uncontrollable so we stopped there on the dyno...one pull would be like 13 lbs (spring pressure) next pull he'd have to let off cause he would see the spike to like 20lbs by 5500. The thing is a spool monster I don't remember exactly but I think it was spoolin about 500rpm quicker than Kevin's car. He said even if the boost was controllable we'd only be able to do about 30 more hp and his dyno would be done so we called it quits. I think the 515 or whatever is gonna be enough for me on the street, the car is just too loud/nutty to open it up if it was more than that, James said the car was loving it so it could do 600 on pump but it would just be a waste of time to rent out another dyno for that, especially considering the time it would need to be on higher power wouldn't be too much, might as well put race gas in it.. So I guess we'll leave it at 515ish for the street and then wake the turbo up with some c16 here in about a month, hopefully get it done before IFO.

I got used to my twin disc fairly quick, im running a Competition twinny and it engages nicely.
I have a problem with idling on mine, leed couldn't get it to idle very nicely when street tuning in the rain, this summer leednog and i will get it on the dyno and i'm sure he will smoothen it out. It idle's as if the IACV is plugged, if anyone has ever had that happen, As well as when i come off throttle and push the clutch in it has problems catching the motor to idle it, sometimes it does, sometimes it catches it.

Didn't really make the numbers i wanted but it made 840whp/590tq in 5th gear...48lbs of boost at 8k rpm dropping like a rock after...my little 11lb wastegate springs just couldn't hold more than 30 some lbs at redline. I am gonna get some bigger base springs and go at it again sometime, but this is enough power to keep me occupied for awhile. If it would have held the boost out, it would have made well into the 900 range for sure...regardless it was enough to strip all the teeth off of 4th gear. Gotta give the tranny credit though for being stock with a chinese diff it held up pretty well, 5th is roasted though too after that one pull and 4th gear held 825-835whp for about 5 pulls.

I have some 2 yr old m/t 24.5's for now. Think I'm gonna try the m&h 9.5 tires though. The mickey's hook pretty hard, but they die out quickly whereas the m&h's are pretty consistent...I'm hoping the extra .5" will get me to be able to hook as good as the mickey's and still last awhile. Soon as I get a gearset I'm going 26's though, and I will be on the m/t's. The toyo 26's blow worse than used 24.5's.

The M&H tires so seem to last a bit longer... Bubs white civic went the 9.70 on year old 25x8.7 M&h's...we threw my 24.5x9 MT's on it and it cut a better 60ft but spun worse in 2nd and overall went slower, think it was a 9.9@157 all within 30 mins of eachother...my slicks had 5 passes on them before he used them... he got a new pair of M&H's for IFO and cut his best 60ft 1.61....
There is no doubt in my mind that the m&h's last longer..the compound is a big harder...the guys at M7H are alot cooler to deal with too!.... i honestly think it comes to personal opinion on which tire works best..

I had a 372 and went to a 6765. The 6765 made more power until 6-6.5k and after that the 372 took over made alot more power. The difference in spool wasnt as big of a difference as i thought it was going to be, and i had a smaller turbine housing on the 6765(.68 on the 6765 vs. 1.10 on the 372). It was all precison had in stock at the time. Overall i was very disappointed with the 6765. I sold it less than a week after i bought it.
We dont race our from 4-6k, so who cares. The 6765 felt alot more responsive on the street, though. You could drive kinda lazy with it, and shift easy and full boost would be there. Gotta bang the gears to keep full boost on the 372.
The only reason to go to the 6765 would be if you were running a 67mm class, and at that point a 6768 is going to be the best choice.

The "true street" 67mm class is a much more competitive class and not as costly as the "outlaw class" . Which is where you'd be placed if you are running anything larger than a 67mm snail. Either that or race bracket with a high hp turbo car.

Ordered all the stuff to build a 5.5" diameter boost leak tester. Hopefully that's partially my issue for the boost control. I'm just going to clearance the compressor housing a little more so it doesn't touch. I can't get the wheel to contact by hand and it's barely scratched so I know it's barely touching. And I'm going to install my 17lbs springs into my wastegates.

Alright so last night was my first pass the car went 11.25@127 spinning all of first, short shifting second and 3rd and getting out of it in 4th cause I almost hit the wall twice. I am happy with that for the first pass. Definitely has mid 10's at mid 130's on gate (17lbs creeping to 18). We took out a little fuel up top and tried to full throttle shift it and tried to make another pass. The car cut out on the shift and died so I pulled over. The track officials came, checked the car and said it was all good so I went back to the pits. 3rd run, we were in the staging lanes for 2 hours because of 3 oil downs and some retard ran his car into the sand. Finally got to make a pass, car cut out again on the full throttle shifts ( second and third) so didn't full throttle shift 4th and it was fine. Got back to the pits and pulled the datalogs and the ECU is completely turning off on the full throttle shift and the datalogs looked all funky so we think we are just getting a lot of interference from my high power ignition. Talked to a few guys and they want me to try some different spark plugs (resistor style) which should cut down on the interference. Gonna give it another go tomorrow. We'll still only be running off the wastegate spring pressure because my cage hasn't been certed yet, but I need the seat time. Should be fun still, the car is pretty fast even on the gate, I cannot imagine what it's gonna be like with 400 more hp on tap.

My old setup is almost identical to yours, i'd look into using ngk #2669, its a resistor iridium #9, thats will fire when a copper plug wont and has great longevity.

Got the ignition problem fixed today...was a blown fuse on the ignition box, we think from a loose wire. Pulling out the front window wednesday to finish up the cage, then it's off to the track again maybe next week.

Just curious, ya don't have to say, but what do you estimate that you have into this project so far? Some kid said he was gonna blow my car out of the water today and build a 600 horse honda...i laughed. told him i have $2500 in the bottom end alone and i'm still a ways from 600hp. Just like to shove it in his face a lil.

I honestly have no clue....Probably somewhere between $20-30k +the car. You could do it a lot cheaper though like way cheaper I spent a lot of money in the wrong places just for shits and giggles. You could build a 600hp car for very cheap...once you get over 650ish the price starts climbing exponentially if you want to build something "reliable".

There is no reliable at those power levels. RLZ had a thread on a local forum bragging how their current engine had 50 passes on it and was still together. We get 400-500 passes off of a 500-550 whp setup.

i never seid it was a street car.i was saying that these cars make some big power and most are driven atlest some off the track. that to me is much more impressive then a car that makes 1500hp for 4secs 1 time in its life
