Title: turbohf ~ build #3 "EKK24" thats a K-series fuckers! :P
Post by: turbohf on September 03, 2012, 10:50:59 PM
forum is a little slow guys, POST YOUR SHIT UP!

there has been some talk about this one. and it is for real.

YES it will be a K-swapped Honda. NO this isnt a big budget HondaTuning build. YES it will do dirty 3rds (probably 4th, maybe 5th lol). im still a fuckin JEW. i seen a sig on another forum that said "K-series + turbo isnt for the cheap", i seen that as a CHALLENGE  :Jew:

"EKK24" is a play on the HASport numbering system on there mounts. this will be using EKK2 mounts. and will be a 2.4L... or maybe that its a EK with a K24... whatever.

the newest victim:

she is kinda a bucket. gonna need some minor touchups and definitely some paint. but that will be last.

wheels did not come with the car. those are the ones that i think that i bought for this car, they have been on the GVR4 for the last month or 2. cuz they fit, and why not?
i think they look good? should i keep them on the EK, or swap them back to the Galant and get something else?

speaking of shit that didnt come with, here is shit that did lol.

pile of shit to start with. anything you see there is forsale. i dont need any of it. engine harness, jumper harness, ground wires, extra brackets, AC evap, hoses, heater valve?? slave, mount... just random shit.

mentioned this before
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2FIMG_20120903_113918.jpg&hash=424f528443af4b2b785d2f240ba102a99380c113)
92-95 Civic non-power steering rack and crossmember. i will be running EKK2 style mounts (dont have them yet tho, someone sell me some cheap!). buddy i got the car from happened to have a 94 Civic DX parts car, told him it needed to donate the rack to my cause LOL. he got it up in the air, i did most the pulling. he threw all the crap in the back of the EK before it left. so i got useless knuckles/brakes/UCA's and shit too.
anyway. cleaned it up some with some simple green. nothing too crazy.

ok, some WTF are these in the pics...
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2FIMG_20120903_183355.jpg&hash=e585df53731f0a484dab27b7215db06f701f83f5)
big ass metal pipe with the fuel lines (above heater core)? where/what is that? guessing vent to charcoal box? what do i do with it?

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2FIMG_20120903_183405.jpg&hash=e39b0607de7fcfe20a0fab004ebcaf1dd1469ca0)
same with these? im thinking these just go under the crossmember and stop. just pull them when the crossmember is out the way, and garbage?

yup, empty.

also, if you didnt know. shit is WAY easier to take apart than to put back together. i put it back in as one piece, and it doesnt balance on the jack very well. seem to remember my GTI one balancing pretty well. anyway got it back in. think i got all the bolts, ill be checking everything over many times before its even close to driving.

everything fits in there champ. alignment is shit lol. only thing i noticed is that when i was jacking it up in there it bent the shit out of the charcoal canister bracket. my bad, should have cut it off to begin with.

as a bonus, this crossmember was loaded with Energy Suspension bushings... if thats a good thing? lol its also a MANUAL steering rack. honestly, im too lazy to get power steering to work. this isnt being built as a daily. and PS racks that are "converted" are garbage.

and....yup forgot to take a pic of it installed. it was late, and tonight i was working on putting my 6-speed back together.....

so, parts collection started before i even got the car, or even made the deal for the car. i figured at the very least i would start the motor/tranny/swap and turbo buildup then find something to put it in later... but i started finding all the shit i wanted a little too quickly LOL...

first up (i think?) i bought...
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2Ftemp_4.jpg&hash=ee639a29df169dbeb13bde1f15fc6efb399756f2)

02 RSX-S tranny and intake manifold... i got deals. ended up being not so good on the tranny, but i got it all fixed back up, and now im going to sell it (more on that later)...

i decided i wanted to run a "VTEC Killer" setup. and i remembered that i knew someone that may have a 09 CRV head with 500miles on it... got a stupid killer deal on it lol.
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2FIMG_20120708_193113.jpg&hash=9ed683b40e96deba09cdbfd834a1afafeb604329)

still need to buy a disc. but thats cheap/easy. going to get a 6puck sprung.
i have a 06+ Si flywheel around here somewhere, needs resurfaced.

RSX 5-speed box/cables, but all the same.

enough for now lol... but there is more...  :Jew:

btw. im refraining from posting the prices i paid for this. but this shit is stupid cheap. i have paid/sold B-series shit for high prices, shit even see D-series going for more than some of the prices i have paid for the above. shit...above post was less than $400 total..  :-*

You only need to mod it a bit to be able to get 6th gear in. If its a 5spd K trans no moding needed.

moving this on to power production...

plan from the beginning was BOOST. cuz everything needs boost. inspiration came from a silver DC integra with a stock CRV longblock with like a 67mm turbo that showed up to one of our meets, and apparently is friends with many of mine. it was making like 500whp+ running 11.2s? on drag radials.

anyway, i found this. BNIB. cheap.

Peakboost topmount. T3 and 44mm v-band flanged. charge pipes are aluminum, flanged with a 50mm and has spot to mount a stock IAT w/ring and shit.
lots of sidewinders out there. and they do look cool. but they point the downpipe right at the brake master, kinda scares me.... oh and this was cheaper.

i guess i only have one shit ass pic of this one?
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2FIMG_20120704_132746.jpg&hash=986b11573a75eb9aa2c2cfc818cbd448f68bf4fb)
but its a TiAL 50mm BOV... infact one of my old ones. bought it back. still trying to trade it for a black one my buddy has (also use to be mine lol) but isnt budging yet.

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2FIMG_20120704_132702.jpg&hash=2b40c6d17cfd47ff7ef8f701a4bf2655662eca83)
scored that little sucker on ebay after watching/missing like 5 sell for more. got a guy i know that said he can hook me up with a deal on some semi used lines, just need to mount it and measure what i need.

plan is to run a K24A1.... buddy has this one, but its missing a fair amount of shit, and im not sure i believe the story of why it was pulled... im told rings by someone else, and timing chain stretch....idk.
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2FIMG_20120906_191601.jpg&hash=3e648c2b7c074853fc623e8fb33355906e58037d)
but again...cheap. might buy it either way. rebuild it. new rings, hone, gaskets, maybe some TSX rods for strength...

oh yeah...
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2FIMG_20120903_184435.jpg&hash=e7e9d5971136ed86b40b5ad6ee2abd8723d61cf3)
car had an Si cluster in it, i said i wanted it. but now im like ehh... kinda want a baller VTi cluster. we will see i guess...

speaking of which. the car also had:
skunk2 springs on ebay sleeves?
ITR brakes in front and back
black housing headlights
plus the pile of parts above.

not much in mods i guess. he stripped a lot of stuff while it was sitting, and took even more off when i told him i didnt wanna pay for shit lol.

think thats about it for pics... i see a couple more i might save for later...  :Jew:

so i went an looked at this K20... it broke a rod. looks like the piston tapped the plug (bent ground strap). so it will need a couple valves im sure at the very least... or most? not sure.
motor is obviously cheap, but sounds like im gonna have to pull it out the car. he is iffy on the tranny that i really dont need.

THIS is what you are refering to when you say snapped rod?

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2FIMG_20120906_191601.jpg&hash=3e648c2b7c074853fc623e8fb33355906e58037d)

HOpefully the valves didn't break and ding the shit out of the combustion chamber but you have a spare head anyway.   I know very little about these engines so i'll be lurking to see how this build turns out, bump my iq a lil bit.  =D

the one pictured is a K24A1. im told by a someone i know that it was a smoker/timing chain stretch motor with like 60k miles on it...
im told by the guy selling it that it ran fine, no smoke, timing chain stretch motor at 60k.

call it $300 w/partial trade

---

went and looked at another K yesterday, K20Z1? (RSX-S) that tossed a rod while racing. it had a plug with the gap closed on it and it was a little wet (oil/gas?). but otherwise looked fine.

hasnt gotten back to me, but i told him 100bucks for the longblock. offered...well i threw out a jew for the swap, and i told him i would help pull it. but im guessing it would be just me, with them asking stupid questions the hole time.

got my fuel rail last night. just a billet chunk of aluminum with some holes in it.

===

i worked on the car some. tried to polish out those wear marks on the quarter panels. shit ass car cover was rubbing on it and scratched the shit out of the paint. he said it didnt look like that before the cover went on anyway. i got most of it to come out. but ehh. its still gonna need painted anyway.

i cleaned up, wet sanded, polished up the right front fender i got with the car. i HATE the side markers. so i got 2 fenders that are OEM style. only one was painted tho...

wow, what a shitty picture. lol. anyway. lines up better than the other one did. might be because i actually took a moment to make it look perfect.

ps: i wanna trade this for an ITR... lol.

soo... this might be a short build, and have a change of direction... maybe some input?

been thinking, and i really want another ITR....

im rebuilding a RSX 6-speed right now, was just going to sell it. but i may have found a deal on a K20A2 motor to put with it. thinking of throwing that into the car, painting it, and trying to sell/trade it to get another ITR...

your thoughts? am i reaching too far and this wont sell/trade for that much (i dont care if its a clean title)? am i on point, and i need to go for this?

2.4l turbo will still happen either way.  :Jew:

*NEED SOME OPINIONS?*

moldings? kinda wanted to paint them black, but i know someone else with a VSM coupe that just bought slims for his car, and is leaving them black. so maybe not.

SHAVED. yes. this is what i really wanna do. i wanna shave them all. make it a nice clean look to it. and im not talking some some 10lbs of bondo early 2000's shit.

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2Fmoldings_zps9bc802f5.jpg&hash=28c33b3048ebfe247faccbd0cf1ee8a4b4740bfc)

CX/VX style like above. really i have only seen, or maybe just noticed it on less than a handful of EK's.

would this even be worth it? or just a big pain in my ass to do? am i getting in over my head?

other exterior looks would be painted side skirts, mirrors, EM1 lip and grill, maybe a OEM style rear lip also. not sure yet.

so i mentioned before that the 02-04 RSX-S 6speed i bought locally off CL was junk. it might have moved a car, but im not sure how well, or for how long.
i did get a deal on it, cuz im sure we both knew that issues could be bigger.

luckily i know some people, and got all the parts i needed, plus new OEM parts, and i work at a shop that has a press and a parts cleaner... after replacing too much shit. its back together and shifts minty both on the shifter housing, and just manually moving the synchro sliders.

all that said....... THIS IS FORSALE! lol.

===

after i had found/got the parts to fix the 6sp i found a EP3 tranny on K20A.org forsale with a Quaife for deals. claims he got it with 7miles (just seven) on it.
i find this actually believable cuz he sent me the JY receipt with the VIN and miles on it. and Honda shows having voided the warranty on it cuz it was totaled by the insurance company shortly after purchase date. he claims 5k miles on it and the quaife.

but i had to see for myself.... shifts all super butter also. not to mention being pretty damn clean.

cuz new OEM parts are cool as shit...

the 6speed needed a bracket cuz it was missing all kinds of shit. so i donated the EP3 bracket and its getting a new one. might paint it black before putting it on tho. not sure yet.

not to mention all the info i have collected to do this shit.

tools:

MANY engine harness are in this box lol. or whats left of them over the years of picking threw, and adding more. about to add that stock EK harness to it also.

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2FIMG_20120930_174559.jpg&hash=3638034834a0b771d93d80c766263657dc1786db)
working on identifying all the plugs of the engine harness. think i have most of them identified. still need my engine and probably put it in the car before i get much further on that......

so on to the dash harness

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2FIMG_20120930_211353.jpg&hash=b03f80b87a7981b42bc0be83f495c968949dddfd)

ok, so not much on building it. took a while, cuz the info i have is kinda scattered. the pinout i have is complete bullshit.most the pins just say "PGMFI" and nothing else. or the shit i find is for a 96-98, or jsut EG/DC. and the service manual i have is for a fuckin  96-98  my car is a 99.

hope its built right. im sure you will notice there are no relays. doesnt look like i need any? relays are for O2's and shit. i wont be running them. going to be running my wideband into AEM. not sure if i need something for the fuel pump? or if its functioning is separate from all this?
oh yeah, also missing E-plug. so gonna change a little lol.

so thats as far as i got.

Chase/Ry/Wirewrox engine harness is like 400-600bucks
Sparks/Ry/HR/HASport/whatever conversion harness is 260-350bucks

so buddy i have been helping with his projects had this throttle body that was just a bitch and would stick all the time. so i bought a new one. told him if he is throwing it away, i need it.

so he hooks me up. fucker sticks bad lol. throttle rotor is cut up. and its missing everything. sensors, even the idle screw.

then in my never ending picking shit up for deals. i got a complete Y7 intake manifold/tb/wire harness for free from a tech at work that just did a swap. so i got my TPS another MAP, and misc shit. oh and another wire harness to cut up lol.

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2FIMG_20121003_195622.jpg&hash=35c3966086c4cefc1f6a22da9a3ff4bd20e61dc8)

also cleaned up my PRB intake manifold (thats RSX Type S). yup thats a B-series throttle body mounted to a K-series intake. 3/4 bolts. might see if i can get the other spot welded and tapped. but think it will work fine.
i pulled the nipples from it. and epoxied them up. along with the IACV port in the PRB manifold.

oh shit. forgot about the TB. lol. its like a 68mm (forgot to double check). i swapped throttle rotors to a B18C1 that i had. took a little filing/trimming. and cleaning up of the TB. got it to where it doesnt stick. should work just fine. still need to find a B18C1 throttle cable bracket. and i think i have a GSR cable, think this setup will work? lol not much info out there on it.

and its a shit ass picture cuz i bought a raw/clear anodized billet fuel rail and it doesnt picture for shit on a OEM manifold lol..

big bad 2.4 liter.... figured the Galant would be the first car to be getting a 2.4 actually lol, maybe next time.

i started tearing it down. removing what there is actually left on it. like water pump housing, brackets, sensors, etc then realized i should have had him hit the crank pulley with the air gun to loosen it... ehh,  ill have to barrow a crank pulley tool from someone before i get too much further on it

btw. cost on this one was $220 + a D-series intermediate shaft.  :Jew:

thats as far as i got. didnt feel like, nor am i sure i even need to go any further. if it bent all the valves, im sure thats why it was pulled. pistons are all dry, but carbon'ed up. so i dont think it was pushing oil. hone on the walls looks nice. suppose to only hae 60K miles on it.

thinking of just working over the head, and throwing it all back together?!?!

lol, thank you?

its pretty obvious that the valves have contacted the pistons? (its on all 4 pistons, all 8 intake valves) i pulled one out at random, and it really looks straight?

so my question is:  would you run them? are they even safe? i would plan on lapping them in, and if it didnt have full contact they are junk. i have another head i have taken apart. one valve is obviously bent (like 45*) the rest look straight (tossed a rod on 1 hole). i might swap those valves in, and just buy 1 new one from honda?!?! shit.... idk what i wanna do here.

Wow, I feel special - I actually got a better deal than you. I only paid $150 for my k24, and it was complete inc. the harness. Nice pulley tool though, I used a nut from fastenall hollowed out more and welded to angle iron. The tee is a great idea, and I'm guessing that's a reducer as the hex portion.

From what I've seen, usually the tensioner goes, cam sensors throw codes, then it jumps. RUns like shit if the valves aren't hitting, wont' start/run the instant it jumps enough to make contact.

Valves that have made contact are always a liability. Eventually the valve flexing a fraction of a inch each time it hits the seat can weaken it. If it's an ebay turbo and a cheap unbuilt longblock with a lower redline, go for it. Otherwise it's better to replace.

yeah he started at like $400 or something on this motor last year... ill be on the look out for a spare, hopefully its more jew.
yeah its a threaded reducer. not 100% my idea tho. found something similar online, modified for my liking.

all the ones that we have gotten in at work will "stretch" start throwing codes and/or running shitty to the point they come in and say WTF? then we replace tensioner, chain, and guides as the tech sees fit.
my dumb ass forgot to check the timing before removing everything, but its pretty obvious it jumped.

yeah, thats what i think killed the 9500rpm B16A2. made contact. but sealed up. ran perfect (392whp) but eventually showed it was wounded.

the pretty solid plan:
GT35R or if that falls threw a 6262
7500rpms
400hp/350ft
stock rods (unless someone comes off some TSX rods for 100bucks, then 8k sometimes)
stock CRV pistons
stock CRV head
vTaK all the time
K20A2 cams
stock oil pump
K20A2 valve springs/seats

you can see i ground on it, and its still a tight fit. good tho, doesnt give it a chance to fall out or move around.

lol. anyway. didnt give it a try on a B or D pulley. but should work on those too. but i have used a chain wrench on those for years.

get setup to work on. oh and i did oil the cylinders asap. obviously that parts washer rips all the oil of of it and leaves it dry, likes to rust instantly... probably doesnt help i pressure washed it right after lol.
nice and clean tho  ;DDD

If your doing new rings is say ball hone it at least; will really prevent oil consumption...  But the Jew in you may keep its hold... Lol

you know, i have never had a problem with this.

Dave Lee even noted on my 392whp B16A that it didnt blow oil at VTEC crossover. nice looking OEM hone. used Endyn forged pistons, new NPR rings (with widened gap), same compression across.

B20VTEC, 220whp NA motor, no hone. new RS cast pistons with there Hasting? rings. same compression across

B18C5, no hone, new NPR pistons/rings, perfect compression across. even after year of boost. (got better actually)

even the random ass B18C that went into the ITR when i first turboed it was on its Honda hone. made 300whp with no issue.

only ones i have honed are the ones that looked shit to begin with. B18C that i never ran, my D16Y8 thats in my CRX didnt look too bad, but i had the hone. so i gave it a quick scratch.

since its up for debate tho... i already have pics...

looks rusty/nasty in the pics? lol.

i have looked into hones, before i took it apart tho... fuckers are expensive for a 320+ 87mm. dont think i spent that much for my 75mm.

left side of cylinder says its going egg shape on you...   starting, but it is.  roughing these areas up will let the rings seat into the misshapen walls better...   but only a dial bore gauge will tell you if its egging....   it could have been the slugs; but everytime I see it develop a line of smooth i have found egging happening.

but alas;  I have put several very screwed up engines together and they are still running;   reused rings;  basically took it apart, slapped in bearings...  i still havent brought myself to assembling a junk motor yet;  threw out my excess of parts I could have done it with too.

Id say try it;  you can always redo right? lol

not overly impressed by them sitting next to the PPA's.... they are actually a c-hair narrower (1mm), little thicker (2-3mm). but the shoulder at the bottom starts sooner, and is thicker, also thicker around the crank.

BTW:  K-series uses C-clips on the pistons. just pull a clip out, apply a little heat, and tap the pin free.

im gonna try and dig up a evo8 or evoX rod to compare these to i think. pretty sure evo8 rods where pretty GSR'ish. and they put down 500s stock... evo x has put down 681 stock oilpain to VC.

or fuckit. ill throw it all together this weekend... idk. who cares. im still gonna boost the shit out of it. this are "stronger" than the older TSX rods, and those are stronger than CRV rods, and i have seen several of those in the 400-500+ range....

so game on.

btw with the stock CRV/PPA pistons ill be sitting around 9.7:1 compression. and really these sound like the best ones to run anyway. TSX ones get you like 10.5:1 which i would boost anyway. but also, i just happen to have teh baller "50* VTC" this thing advances/retards the intake cam. the TSX will hit piston around 45*. the CRV is a good block they say cuz you can slap a K20A2 head on it without worries of piston/valve issue. i will be running K20A2 cams (in stock CRV head). so... all is good, will be baller. and all done on the cheap. lol.

so was reading something online. ended up ordering...

so i can lube threaded parts. i use red permatex shit for moving parts. i have 2 different kinds of that, one is thinned out with some 5w30, one is straight up. depending on what im putting it on.

think i said i ordered valvetrain parts. cuz im not running those intakes. im throwing them away. exhaust valves are forsale tho.

btw. all the springs look to be red? that right? all the same?

K24A2 valves, springs, retainers, seats, locks.
K20A2 intake/exhaust cams

that was $95 shipped if your keeping count.  :Jew:

thats it for now. pics might be better from here out. i bought a new phone, old one was getting old lol. 8mp now ;)
no pics of that, cuz, well i take pics with it lol. if you care, its a Samsung Galaxy S III. rooted and flashed, cuz i feel i need to modify and take everything apart...

ok, there is a good answer for that. evident by the fact that i have 3 cars/projects. i have some ADD. and that really doesnt help when gathering parts for a build. cuz i just buy random ass shit and the car takes forever to move (CRX).

so i have made a list. simply called "ORDER" lol. everytime i think of something i wanna buy, i check the list. not at the top, ehh, ill probably pass. so things like AEM/turbo/etc have moved way down, cuz i dont need them yet. oh, nor do i have 800bucks for the 35R i want. but soon as this tranny sells im buying this 35R or a new 6262 from Mike at LSD.

things up next are timing chain/tensioner. clutch disc. mounts. then i can finish motor assembly, bolt motor in car, test fit.

You have the wiring figured out? U building your own harness?

figured out? no. good idea, maybe.

i will be building my own harness. no fancy RyWire shit. just electrical tape and split loom. i think i have all the connectors. i just need to figure out what injectors im running, and how im running it in the chassis.

oh and im still missing a plug!...

that one.

i got a post in the classifieds. but it should come off the floor harness of any 4cylinder civic 01+, everything else 03+?  its an ECU plug obviously.

Twin scroll t4 6262 gets my vote. I was thinking of going that route with my sohc, but not anything soon. If not the 6262 a BW s300.

ok, so yeah i have lots motivation lol... but i was talking with a buddy last night, got me a little motivated to do something...

so i have been lightly harassing one of the kids at work, sometime last week (remember, motivated) he points at the flywheel under my desk :)

noticed this thing hanging around. fuckin minty 09 CRV cover. should be, car only had 500miles on it lol. not sure what im doing with this or the uglier 03 CRV cover.... think they are gonna need AN fittings, and one OEM B-series kinda black, and the other something obnoxious.

i cleaned the shit out of the pistons. chiseling out carbon out the ringlands and shit. hate. once i was done i cleaned them, then decided to try and hang one...

did some work... went light on the pics tho...

i checked the ring gap. its a little bigger than what i found for a 87mm bore. but just a hair...

this is how i clock all my rings.
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2FIMG_20121030_184342.jpg&hash=7b3dae84f69203f82cca9cb54429161f7283a5eb)
i always put them on the exhaust side. i think i have a theory, but either way. thats where i put them. your not suppose to put then on a thrust axis. so NO 12/6 or 3/9... i just put the oils wherever, just make sure they arent in a line. and aimed away from the crosshairs.

this is the spring compressor i always use. in 10 years i have broken 2 rings (both the second ring, its a brittle iron). both times i just picked a ring off old piston. ehh. rings usually arnt "bad" from what i have seen.
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2FIMG_20121030_184239.jpg&hash=0b43334c7a4e0451687373b69a706f79bdab6aba)
used this way too many times. always say im going to buy a ARP/Wiesco perfect fit one...

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi276.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk32%2Fefssuck2%2FEKK24%2FIMG_20121030_191720.jpg&hash=a2aa796415391a20215a6f871073a5d5c32c33dd)
all done. spins over great. nice and smooth with a little ring drag...

TSX rods to 27ft lbs + 120*
CRV mains to 22ft lbs + 56*
all the 12mm heads to like 16lbs

thats all for tonight. forgot about that giant ass brick of oil pump...it can wait for tomorrow/later.

anyway. thats just a sample. you dont need to know where all of them are  ;)
the idea is to put them where i know where to look. some are easy, some are not. i have even stamped flanges so if you tried to take them off shit wouldnt seal LOL. and sure you could scratch my name off everything... but ill still know....

also took the head the rest of the way down. took out all the valves, springs, seats, seals <~whore as always. took the studs out of the intake side cuz i seen a post on K20A.org that showed how much of a PITA it is too pull with all the studs in it... then i put the studs from my extra head in the exhaust side. i still need two more. i dont think there will be an issue with the exhaust side.

no pics of that shit. as that head is oily and nasty as shit, cuz i forgot to put it in the parts washer first. i might lap in the new valves later today or i might just wait till its all fresh and clean.

My secret:

Any base coat.

High temp enamel clear.
Thin fucking coats. You start to see it haze/whitten, let that coat dry for 5-15 min and it should clear up.  Once clear, next coat.

Comes out like the pics on my gsr build valvecover :). Though I only did 3 light coats.

I'll give this one a try. maybe I'll try painting the other one too. but I kinda put some AN fittings in one first. maybe paint it when the humidity isn't so high...
Title: Re: turbohf ~ build #3 "EKK24" thats a K-series fuckers! :P
Post by: JaredKaragen on November 05, 2012, 04:17:35 PM
If the humidity is up, do it with a space heater in the garage or the oven on ~200 for 10-15 min, should cure the paint quickly.

But the high temp enamel clear is where it's at.  Thin coats are a must, and the hazing over from the second coat on is your indicator to ease up and do a dry cycle.

Good thing about VC's is they fit in the oven :)

Can be pricey, but not compared to multiple one-size machined tubes. The one I had "donated" to me can do a huge range of ring sizes.

BTW don't forget WHERE you should get injectors from:

If you need Hyundaidata K-poop and cannot jew up a used one, my cost is $811 for board, install, and return shipping.  Fuck you.

I need to catalog circuit differences between RSX-S and base model ECUs.  Base model ECU = $60 all day errday from yards, RSX-S runs $150-250 depending on how fast somebody needs it.  Without having done the job or looked at a board I'm going to say it's $15 in parts and thirty minutes.
