A small update

Will new front end with old hood

New front end with with new hood

Still need get new hood hinges, already ordered.

First time 10years of own this car I can use the hood release cable.  :noel:

And new inner fender and under tray will be next to be installed.

This weekend finish getting the engine built, mock some of the supercharger brackets and pulleys.

Figure out the turbo manifold to fit in everything, most likely will have to move the radiator over and box in.

Next weekend replacing all the control arm and trailing arm bushings.  :noel:

Paint may have to wait, but I do plan on getting HIDs and fog/driving lights in.

Ordered my chassis stiffening parts this morning, except I forgot to order the strut tower to fire wall brace.

Also just ordered a S2K Clutch master cylinder, since I already have spacers.

I have a really short shifter (Del Slo stock shifter, I think) and I can not get the clutch to engage and disengage fast enough when racing. (XTD stage 5 setup)

This should help knock a fraction of a sec. off each shift.  :noel:

This car will never run at an RHMT Dyno meet. It's tradition we all spend our time trying to fix it, knowing it really won't. <3

Ok a quick little update:

Replaced the rear trailing arm bushing

Burn the old one out as much as possible to make it easier later.

Smack that center out and keeping it burning.

Yeap took both arms off.

After burning as much of that rubber as possible, I went there with a brass wire wheel on a drill clean that hole up.

Lube hole and bushing and press the bushing from the outboard side in. I used a 20ton press at work took a whole 5min to press.  :noel:

Yeah I was reading about that, and since I already had this kit for free laying around and the original cracked bushing had 219k on them, why not.

When upgrade my brakes in a year, I'll get the spherical bearings for the trailing are and front LCAs.  :noel:

Those bushings almost put me into the wall a few times. On my crx going around a corner pushing it, the car would go from under steering one second to over steering in a blink of the eye........ :?:

No but I do have a '82 Mustang GT, I  got for free, and a '88 CRX Si that I practically got for free.

Trying to find time to fix the Mustang and sell it to fund the s/c 70mpg CRX Si project.  :noel:

Some more updates:

I replaced the stock clutch master with a S2k unit w/ spacer.  :noel:

Take the old one out.

Put the S2k unit in with spacer and you will notice the hydraulic line does not line up well.

No problem with a little patience use your hands to gently bend and pull the line to line up with the new cylinder.

Make sure you have the rod adjustment all the way out before connecting it to the clutch peddle.

Bleed the clutch hydraulic system, should take ya about 30min. for the total install :noel:

Before this clutch master cylinder replacement I would have to sit closer to the dash.

I would have to use a lot of leg movement to engage/disengage the clutch.

Now I can put my seat back further and drive more comfortably, use 1/3 the leg movement.

Peddle is firmer and I have enough movement to preload the clutch to hold my car on hills.

I can also shift a lot faster.

Since I'm putting the He351ve on, I better get the oil pan tapped for oil return.

Chose to have the return come in above the baffle and in between reinforcement ribs of the pan.

I was looking for an aluminum 1/2" or larger tube for the return.

Then I remembered the line to the old a/c condenser I have laying around.

Positioned the line pointing to center and up, while making sure it is in no position to make it hard to tighten the oil pan to block fasteners.

The new engine setup:

Y8 block
75.5mm Vitaras
Cunningham Rods
A6 crank
y8 oil pump
Y8 head mildly ported by me
Stock y8 cam with adjustable gear
stock valves with crower springs and retainers

Block was bored 0.5mm over and decked 0.020"

Using the y8 timing components, except at the crank.

The A6 crank is the older smaller snout crank.

So I have to use timing belt sprocket from the a6 and harmonic balancer/pulley.

With the crank and short block assembled the crank turns nice with light effort.

The inside of the oil pan needed a little cleaning.

Make it easier when the pan has a bolt in baffle.  :noel:

Notice how close the turbo oil drain is to above the baffle.

Put the oil pan on and look how the oil return clears, the block and leaves plenty of room to bolt up the pan.

Put the head on and proceeded to get the head studs in and noticed that all of the studs are too long.

Not one or two of them, but all of them. I bought these of a nog on here and I think they sent me the wrong one.

I double check and made sure the machinist took off 0.020" of the deck and not 0.200" off.

The vitara piston top sits ~0.065" below deck, like it should.

So went to the hardware store and bought a box of 100 L9 washers and used 5 washers/stud and torque everything down.

Got the timing belt on with all the timing marks lined up. By the way the A6 crank has now marks to I used a sharpe to mark TDC.

Later I'll mark the pulley with a hacksaw blade to make it easier to time with a light.

Hand crank the engine over and it is freaking hard as hell.  :?:  :-\

So take the rocker assembly off and inspect the cam, it had some serious divots in a couple  of the lobes.

So I grab another cam I have laying around looks to be a z6 cam.

Then I thought I better check the rocker assembly found at least 4 rockers with flat/worn pads.

I have 3 z6 and 2 y8 rocker assemblies so I'll just use the best of what I have.

Strip the rocker shafts and there is a bit of metal clogging up the exhaust  rocker shaft.

They should have clean holes like this.

By the way P08 (z6) and P2a (y8) rocker shaft are not exactly the same

With everything stripped and clean I start from the dizzy side, and start assembling everything together.

Here is another note, if you want to know if you have P08 parts in your y8 look at the pad on the rockers.

The y8 pads have little notches on them. The pad on the right is a po8

Got the head back together and bolted on, hand cranked the long block, a lot easier now.  :noel:

Got the water pipe back on with black box, and a Tuner Toy oil feed fixture. I bought from a nog on here new.

Probably going to use a copper 1/8" hard line for the oil supply.  :noel:

So time to bolt the S/C on, this time with a new idler pulley and lower bracket bolt setup.

Last year when I went to the PNW RHMT meet, I kept losing belts, and could not get above 7psi on the dyno.

Well the bottom bracket rear most bolt (from pulley) had fallen out.

I decided to not repeat this issue, got me a 3/8 x 8" bolt with nylock nut and new 90mm dia. idler pulley.

That fixed, I bolted on the partially done Wier log manifold on to figure out turbo placement.

He351ve sits nice and snug above the s/c, with the turbo compressor housing laying top of the s/c.

This is all I have for now will have more updates soon.  :noel:

Ok pulled the stock z6 with unknown mileage out.

Before/start of engine removal

Take front bumper cover and radiator support off.

New Victim

Sitting in the bay before motor mounts are bolted in.

With engine bolted in started to put the radiator support back on S/C outlet was blocking it from lining up properly.

No worries, notch that bitch with a sawzall  :noel:

Had to clearance that area a lot keep the coupler from getting cut up by the radiator support under normal driving.

Closeup of the S/C outlet and coupler and little on how it bends around.

The top of that bend to intercooler w/ DSM BOV.

Carving out the plastic in the backside of the bumper to clear the piping before the intercooler.

This cutter works awesome with trimming.

The intercooler actually wedges in the radiator support like it belongs there,  PERFECTLY.

A shot of the intercooler and 3" piping, BOV and the bends needed.

Quick fuzzy shot of engine, notice the roll of 1/8" copper oil line above the timing belt side of VC.

That will be for the turbo when in.  :noel:

Cranked the engine over w/o dizzy hooked up to get the oil primed up, seeing 60psi while cranking.

Then hooked the dizzy backup and she started right of the bat, but could not stay running well.

Looked at mechanical timing and realize I had the cam timing set for a Z6 head and not Y8.

advance the cam 4.5deg. and she runs a lot better.

She does not like decelerating below 2k revs.  So keep her lower gear to lug the engine and keep her above 3k most of the time.

The ignition timing is set at 10TDC at idle, idle at 750, sprakplug gap at 0.025"

I drove it to work this morning and she is getting better.

This afternoon I'll play with the Crome tuning and dial her in better.

Then this week I'll get the Precision 788cc inj. and 3bar map back, street tune.

Then street tune with the S/C running.

Hopefully this weekend I can then put the He351ve to use.  :noel:

Also replacing the the rack and pinion boots and maybe a lower ball joint in the front.

The driver side ball joint seems too lose when I had it separated pulling the cv axle.

But when I have everything bolted back together it seems tight, no play when grabbing the unloaded wheel and tire.

Alright the front end is back off.

I started with the turbine housing, removed it.

+

=

Starting the downpipe

Manifold carving for the mounting flange.

Carved into radiator support to get everything to fit. This is will probably be the final position.

With radiator moved over and downpipe connected, still looking on shortening the manifold runners about 1/4" to give more room.

The hood is within 1/4" from closing perfectly, between modifying manifold runner length and denting the hood brace should take care of this.
