The Cities of Fargo, ND and Moorhead MN are on track for the worst flood since 1897. My parents live on the river. This is our Dike.

Fuck sandbagging.
-
Worst case scenario if it fail you won't have to pay for the water to fill the hot tub.
I would still sand bag though.
-
So a plywood wall is gonna stop a flood? Should of saved your money and bought sandbags and maybe use the wood to build a boat if the flood is gonna be that bad. Eh, best of luck.
-
What are you using to seal the joints between sheets and the plywood to the concrete? Hopes and dreams?
-
what are you going to use to support thousands of lbs of pressure in water form, from folding the walls back? i hope you aren't done
i was thinking the same thing. there is going to be a shit ton of weight pushing against that wall. its going to fall the fuck over
-
There won't be any pressure unless they seal the joints, it will all just leak through and equalize on both sides, leaving the wall as is. :D
-
Should have maybe used all that wood and time to build a raft :P
-
I would definetely support the wall to the house, the water WILL tear that down
-
I would definetely support the wall to the house, the water WILL tear that down
Then crush the house like a beer can.
The wall might work up to about 3 feet if sealed up with a high flow waste water pump to keep any water that leaks or seeps through the ground, after that my money is on fail at 4 feet deep. Move all your shit upstairs and pray like a motherfucker. (keep small powered jon boat ready as well with fuel)
-

It works, Trust me.... this isnt the first time we've done this... We add 4x4 bracing in between the side of the house and the flood wall.
-
damn!!! good luck
-
I wouldnt be living there
-
Oh crap, WTF.
-
Tarps? hmmm looks like you should build it higher this time...
-
damn that last pic is serious.
Maybe just save that $$ next time and make sure the flood insurance is paid that month. Let house float away, collect $$ and move.
-
Get some pics of the house floating away, you might make front page :noel:
-
I know the feeling of getting almost flooded out of your house, I just pack shit up and moved out in 1 day, luckly I got by on the hair of my chinni chin chin
-
Tarps? hmmm looks like you should build it higher this time...
Yes there is 6 mil plastic wrapped over the whole thing...
We built it 3 ft higher than the last pic... We take it down and store the wall every year. This Is a new wall because We have had higher forecast predictions than anything in history(now surpassed 41 ft. We can only hope it doesnt get that high...) If it hits 42 ft, the whole town will be under water and we would have to ring our entire house to save it. We have plenty of flood insurance. Were not fucking retarded. The fact of trying to save your house that you have lived in for ten yrs is worth the fight. I will post pics of the water lever soon. Its gettting closer and closer by the minute
-
What the fuck for?
-
do you have like a gas water pump that keeps the sump dry? that can't be watertite
-
you should build one of these just in case (https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fofficespam.chattablogs.com%2Farchives%2Fredneck-house-boat-1.jpg&hash=de4940a973e25a2cebd949474ef9395f604959d8)
-
that is some crazy floodage right there
-
Dude, you totally need a boat dock. People will be like WTF? Then they'll be like awww yeah dawg.
Put that shit on the ground with some styrofoam, and boat up top. Once if floods, voiva - insta-dock.
-
That is crazy :o
-
Shit, do you live bellow the water level or what? :?:
-
My brother has the same dilemma when it rains bad. He lives next to small river and the bridge next to house sometimes can support all the water flowing by, so it overflows the road and the water comes in trough the driveway. After to floods we had to build a nice iron gate and wall.
You say why? He got the house mad cheap and its a big ass property. Cant win sometimes. ::)

Wow, I didn't think it would be that bad. Holy shit. Good luck.
-
Well, we got HUGE amounts of rain tonight so we shut down(8pm). Tomorrow will be the day to add bracing and work on the inside of the wall. We Placed our sump holes/Buckets tonight and are getting lighting set up to work all night for the next couple of days. Time for rest now.

Good luck!!!!

-

I don't think anyone gets it. This is the highest predicted flood in History PERIOD. This doesnt happen every year, or even every 5 yrs.
-
Someone needs to come up with a sandbag filling contraption.
-
Someone needs to come up with a sandbag filling contraption.
Someone would forget it and leave it for the flood water to take it back to china.
-
Someone needs to come up with a sandbag filling contraption.
Fargo(other side of the river) uses 2 giant sand bag filling contraptions that can do 500 bags / hour. But, the sand we have here has a lot of clay in it, so it clogs up the machines. The cone contraptions we have can do 2 bags every 5 seconds if your going quick. now mind you there is probably a hundred stations in Moorhead with those cone things, so were going plenty fast. Plus Fargos sandbags are built at the fargodome, then palletized and shipped out from there. Some bags are traveling 5 miles on a trailer. Moorhead has a filling station in each neighborhood so the bags have to go maybe a quarter mile max. They brough a bag filling machine into our neighborhood last night. The one Moorhead uses is portable and works pretty well, but it sews the bags shut. That makes clean up way harder.
-
insane
i think it would only take one flood till i moved

Video from my walkout basement at 38.3 ft(River is supposed to Crest at 41.)
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v294/atmospere_adikt/?action=view¤t=floodwall382.flv (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v294/atmospere_adikt/?action=view¤t=floodwall382.flv)
We are really only worried about Seapage at this point the flood wall has proven itself strong enough to hold. The top pieces are on because the city ordered us to build another foot on top It isnt projected to get that high so we didnt worry about putting plastic over it, just enough to make the city happy.
-
Do you realize you've built a house around your house to protect your house? That's a lot more work than I'd like to do.
Spening 1200 dollars to protect a 200k home isnt a big deal I dont think.
This mornings project... There will be more to come like this. I think this should work....

-
it's for sure a ton of work to do but it's necessary. we've got some sandbagging going on along the red river over too but it has been slowed due to the blizzard that just came through. also the red river is ice jammed, so the water is rising even faster.
-
best of luck. im in st.cloud,mn and i've heard how bad it is.
-
damn dude, good luck. hope your wall holds up

So at what point do you call it a loss, abandon ship and call the insurance company, and pray they don't need to ask for a bailout to cover the current flood event?
-
yo dawg, we heard you like houses so we put a house around your house so your house can be in a house
lol
-
just heard on the radio that the national weather service now says it will crest at 43 feet tomorrow
-
good luck man
-
why not build a stone wall and be done for evah with it ???
granted it'll cost you more than 1200 but you won't have to worry or think about it anymore
good luck though
-
did he sink yet?
-
I'm guessing he got a taste of what we got in WI, his whole town washed away, and he's in some Canadian refugee camp w/o internet.
-
THats a shit load of water in that vid :-\ good luck but if it gets up to you extended bit i think your fucked. That looks cold too.
-
Id go help if I was a bit closer
I also heard on the raio today a dam broke, 50 dead, and a whole town is gone
-
its sad when there is only one line of defense, if that gets breached everyone is screwed
-
Id go help if I was a bit closer

What? Where?
My MSN link is down for some reason.
-

That really sucks. I was just thinkin there is no way in hell I'd be standing behind that wall taking the vid-that shit breaks and you're dead. I hope his house didn't wash away, with him and his family in it.
-
i saw some people rescued off the roofs of their houses because they thought they could handle it. although i dont think they had a wall defense like you do. is the crest still expected for this weekend?
-
these are some pictures from grand forks i found on another site.

-
At least you beer wouldnt get warm with all that ice.
reminds me of my buddy who made koozies for 40s out of an old wet suit he couldn't fit in anymore
-
Is he still floating?
Fuck that whole thing is a mess. I want a house on the water, but seeing shit like that makes you think twice. I grew up on an island, near Lake Erie, so water is something I enjoy. Right now, I'm all fucked up living here in AL, there's the Chatahooche river, but that cess pool is nasty and filthy.
-
Country music sucks.
-
This is while you wont catch my Black ass near water.
-
wonder what happened to him?
-
he either got wet or he didn't
-
he either got wet or he didn't
WTF kind of post was that?
I hope he got the fuck out of the way and saved any car parts he had
-
sounds like they were saying that most of his town was evacuated, so that probly explains it.
-
So after a long battle of flood fighting, we are still High and dry. We have been having a small leak under our planters through the soil. But our electric pumps have been able to keep up. Our wall is hold strong and will not be going anywhere. We are only worried about seapage now. The city diked our house and both houses next to us in. That really fucked us. We built 2 wing dikes on the side of our house, so we are now fully ringed. Our neighbor to the north of us lost his house last night.

Country music sucks.
So do french people.
Good luck, that's a lot of fucking water :-\
-
That looks like the last fucking place on earth I would want to live. Cold as fuck, snow, rain, floods. Is there anything good about where you live or do you just enjoy living there because it sucks so much?
-
fuck that is a lot of water. 4feet deep at the wall you built?
oh and great video, i love the sound of walking on snow.
the planter are 3 ft tall, and the water is up 7 ft from the ground at our dike, so technically its 7 ft up our wall.
That looks like the last fucking place on earth I would want to live. Cold as fuck, snow, rain, floods. Is there anything good about where you live or do you just enjoy living there because it sucks so much?
Look up best places to live. I think Fargo/Moorhead was in the top 15 last year. No Crime, NO EMISSIONS TESTING!, Everything we need but not nearly the traffic of a big city. Shit man, I love it here.
-
Fuck that, I live by a lake but atleast I'm at the top of the hill :P Even if the water level gets high as fuck it'll never reach us
-
I used to live about 3 houses down from the Niagara River, living upstream of the falls, waterlevel couldnt change but 3-4 feet max hi to low, Lake Erie was a different story depending on how the wind blew, it could change 7 feet sometimes
-
jesus man good luck.. hope everything works out for ya
-
Made it through the night awesome. Water levels are descending faster than the NWS predicted. O0 O0
-
Wow well good luck looks like your gonna make it out dry :noel:

I have a 4 minute Blair witch style walk around video thats being processed on youtube right now... I will post it up as soon as its done.

Its funny, we were just talking about that yesterday. My neighbors flood wall is nig-rigged like no tomorrow but he's holding just as well as we are. We werent going for look but strength. We had several family friends who are professional carpenters come in to help.

it was like 50 plus for 3 or 4 days and then it started flooding, then the blizzards came. Fuck man, I'm prepared for the Blood River, The Plague and locusts to come next.
-
Glad to hear all is well so far.
You still getting snow or rain?
-
we got i think 10+ inches the last 2 days and last i heard there is more to come.
-
So with all the flooding why nobody there builds a bloody stone wall? Doesn't look good??
-
Updates?
-
It would of been prime if Iburn's r-hmt shirt or the OCZC shirt would of been worn during the picture of you. LOL
-
Updates?
Water is completely off the flood wall. They are predicting a second crest just as high as the last one so we will see. We have been adding some sandbags on top of the ground behind the dike to hold back the pressure from the ground from coming up. Also, We put plastic covering the ground out about 10 ft from the wall. Were hoping this will cut back on some of the pressure from coming through the ground, up under the planters and behind the wall.

did the water push that wall in?
-
ground saturates, water table is above the ground level. water WILL seep in from the lower side, this is how wells for country water work.
Yes The ground is saturated already. We are worried about the hydraulic pressure.

Between bouts of bailing water with buckets do you relax in that fat hot tub?

We used to in 2006, but our power shut off while we were on vacation during the winter a couple years ago, and a couple pipes froze. BTW, we don't bail water with buckets, where did you get that Idea? The 5 Gallon buckets are sunk int the ground and have holes drilled into them. We place sump pump into the bucket and pump water out that seaps throught the ground.

If the power goes out, get video footage of real life bucket bailling please.
Also, since you haven't used the hot tub in three years you really should give it to me.
