If you want to use aluminum piping, HTS2000 i think? makes a brazing rod for aluminum. Ived used it to repair broken alternator ears, etc. but only on cast alum. stuff, I havent tried it on like alum. pipe but worth a shot I suppose.

yah. thats what i want to try because... well

i mean its not necessary to weld everything. they aren't stressed parts, or structural components, so i figured they'd be ok.

As long as it will hold pressure and static testing(wiggle it around and see if you can break it), it will be fine. At the same time, I'd suggest welding it for real. Mild steel and a $100 "MIG" welder would be the best low rent option.

i've seen side car race bike frames that are brazed. i wouln't worry too much about charge piping.

Ford used a tubular intake aluminum manifold on one of their I4's in the 90's, and I'm 99% sure it was all brazed together.

lol i brazed an adapter plate to an HF manifold and ran it for over a year without it cracking or the turbo falling off. i doubt you will have a problem keeping charge pipes together

Make sure you either use the flux filled rod or flux and the proper filler material. That crap you get at autozone is not it. Good luck and if you have any questions just ask. I am one of the few people in my area that still can do this and every once in a while I get the call to weld something in the field that cannot be welded any other way.

A good oxy/acetylene torch is about it. You can find victor heads and second hand tanks pretty cheap if you're patient.

i use a flux for welding aluminum with OA.

it works great.

not easy tho. you gotta practice at it.

Dont use that durafix shit. All that crap does is contaminate the material so it cannot be welded properly. Use a proper flux filler rod and a oxy/accel torch.

Not all of us have the luxury of torches.. as soon as we got a Mig the torches went back (leased)

I just bought some alumaloy (durafix type shit) off of Ebay. I am gonna try it on my intake pipes.

I will pressure test it and report back.. if it sucks I am only out $14 (for 15 rods shipped)

If it works really well .....beer can intake LOL

heres one of my first aluminum welded pipes with oxy/acetylene.

its a flux from tm2000. the flux is cheap the rod is cheap. but the goggles are a couple hundred.
the flux burns and puts out a different kind of light.
