OBD1 OBD0 ecu conversion question

Ok its still a 100 degrees in Florida and I wanted to start doing my obd1 conversion. So I decided it would be easy to wire the obd1 plugs to a set of crx si plugs then just solder the crx plugs in wire for wire.

I also wanted to keep the stock plugs in case I wanted to convert it back to stock or break it in obd0 since I have a tune from my last build I could work off of.

Would there be any unforeseen problems running 2 sets of ecu plugs?

No im not going to run 2 ecus at the same time I will just electrical tape the ones not in use.

I almost gave you a wakeup call this morning, fucker.  Now I wish I had.

You can do what you speak of, just don't plug both ECUs in at the same time or else it'll obviously run funny, if it runs at all.  It might even burn the ECUs out, although I don't *think* it would.


BTW, if you convert to a Y8 oil pump, lower timing gear, and CKP then you can have working OBD0 and OBD1 ECU plugs where you don't have to swap distributors.

just make sure your twisted pair wires are still twisted and have a grounded coating.  The cylinder sensors need this or they won't work for shit and you'll have the tiniest bit of interference screwing up your signals.  Low voltage is very sensitive to offsets.
I didnt think it would matter considering that the jumper harnesses that are sold don't have any.
Im going to solder and heat shrink all the connections.

I was also going to do the dual plugs for the dizzy buy figured that might cause some kind of arcing problem so I just chopped a plug off a fucked up td18u and made a adapter.

If the interference might cause a problem I might just use the crx plugs as a guide once I get under the dash and cut the obd1 plug with small pig tails and just solder in the one set of plugs.

I saw a boomslang one forsale by Lowerit in FS section. ;D

Avoid the ones with black OBD1 plugs, they are feces.

RHMT is DIY
and wiring is my strong suit.

I have definitely read of people having issues with jumper harnesses and the +/- twisted pairs, especially when the jumpers have other wires coming between the two or when the jumper wires are very long.  The currents produce a magnetic field and they interfere with the +/- differently depending on proximity to the wires.  When I did my wiring I mad sure to keep the loops to a minimum, maybe 2 or 3 inches max of pair wire outside of the shielded casing.

True, Well Im just gonna leave around 3"pig tails and use the one set of obd1 plugs and start from scratch on my map. I haven't cut the car harness yet so I will make sure to leave that casings on and I know there is about 2" to 3" on the stock ecu plugs so I dont think it should be a problem.

I would be mad pissed if I soldered all 50+ wires then had to shorten all of them.

And JD when the fuck are we gonna do that tuning work shop in hick town. Im getting better at tuning but have no professional opinions.
