Title: turbo lsvtec holset or precision
Post by: shanerv on February 13, 2014, 11:55:09 AM
So went to VA this December and picked up a completely rust free 92 si. And I am building a lsvtec for it for this summer. Stock rods and pistons complete rebuild. Gsr head with port and polish. Gonna be my dd 100 mi a day ride. Looking to make 350 on pump and 400 on race I just happened to get two turbos for free. Which one would you run?

HX 40 with an upgrade billet extended tip drop in compressor wheel later.

I want to say holset but the 16cm housing is gonna spool a little slow.

when i say a little slow, my 12cm on a splog with a lsv hits 26psi by 5500. now if I run 12-15psi i see it by 4500. But its a blink of an eye from 4500 - 5500. Just don't expect to cruse don the hwy @ 3000rpms and stand on it and expect boost right away.

I used to run a lsv with a h1c and 18cm exhaust little slow on the spool 4500-4800 full boots but it didn't bother me. I am wondering though if at only 12-15 psi if it will even be in the efficiency range of the hx40 compressor or I will be below it to far. I also used to have a ls with a hy35 @12 psi and it always seemed like it was just kissing the efficiency range but not quiet there.

For the billet wheel u will have to machine the backing plate but for $30 more go with the base setup 62mm inducer 86 ex with a 7blade wheel

I vote holeslut, I'm going with a hx52 this year over my precision 6766 that barely survived dyno time, maybe 1000(really pushing it) kms, and a few track passes til it let go and started smoking.

oh you just didn't take care of it.  it's not for DD, race use only.  you just don't know how to take care of it.

I'm kidding.  That's what my cousin tells me about rotary engines.. lol.
