I started my turbocharging days with this motor, after it continued to blow head gaskets and piss me off i ditched it for an H22..
Well years later i decided to try it again, except this time cheaper, not pushing it as hard and leaving the motor fairly stock.
I found a pretty clean chassis with a blown up, already in pieces B21A1 for 650 bucks towed it home and started tearing it apart.

got the motor out and cleaned up the bay a bit
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg577%2F1835%2F20130106131254.jpg&hash=f46037a0f1d39544e108a6e02d1ef0d8ef92fe3e)
Bought a different block, the b21 is FRM. B20a5 is normal iron, bought the b20a5 short block in pieces for 100 bucks threw down a sick hone job and bought an Ebay evergreen rebuild kit.

H23 rods are a direct swap for these engines, and there much stronger looking then stock, scored a set for free
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg692%2F9066%2F20121229123154.jpg&hash=3f4a4cf9f5ec5bce4c31ecc33ca9711c525b5a2e)
instead of cleaning the stock pistons and risk breaking them upon removal i bought a set of B series cast nippon turbo pistons, for the price why not.. had the wrist pin bores honed to fit. Combined with the b21a1 head we now have a really low compression b20a5 ( about 7.9) spent more than i wanted on that but got the rods, turbo, and injectors for free so i spent money else where.

decided to do a quick cleanup job on the head, lapped all the valves replaced stem seals, and cleaned up the valve bowls, got the head resurfaced for free, Thanks Kyle!

Being this is a bastard child of a motor there is no cheap cast iron china turbo manifolds out there, so i bought one for an H22a and made it work... drilled/hogged out a few holes, nigger rigged the gasket and WALA
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg198%2F5109%2F20130105162913.jpg&hash=41f6c38e6ccdd927cbb28ab6a303e55c92d665a9)

Got an old Garrett T3 turbo off a mustang/tbird for free, had tons of shaft play but in otherwise decent shape, got a rebuild kit for it off ebay, took it to work and sandblasted it all up.. 75 bucks into the turbo
modified the compressor outlet for a normal coupler, and built a gay little flange for the air filter

Pretty much no way to fit internal wastegate with the H22a manifold which sucks so i niggered a external setup with a really chinese wastegate and recirced it back into the downpipe, thanks Columbia River Mandrel Bending for the quick shipping and awesome prices/RHMT discount!

intercoolers are a pain in the ass and somewhat of a nigger to install on these old preludes, so i stole a meth kit for 150 bucks and used the ECU to control it..

All in all i have about 2400 bucks into the entire setup including the cost of the car and a new Comp Clutch
-
I always thought you were a fucking weird-o for liking those chassis, then I got to drive a 300whp one that was stockish suspension, and hooked power like a Civic only wished it could. I want one.
You're still a weird-o.
-
Its still a girl's car.............
Rhmt old scool setup looks good. Car looks pretty clean. I like it!
-
:Jew: approved. and has a place on the RHMT dyno O0
-
This should also be added with list build threads.
How close do you think on betting the A20 Accord that was there the last two years? :noel:
-
I like 8)

Always wanted to do this

i like having a car that not many people modify, and there just as capable as any other honda in most cases.
-
nice work mitch.. my sister had the same car new back in the day. top notch work non the less.
-
bring 2? im planning on bringing 2 cars to the meet.
ps. not sure if anyone even remembers back that far... but i use to have a white 90 Prelude Si, like Mitch's other car. i liked it. was slow tho.
-
yeah i thought about bringing 2 cars, but its to much to worry about and to much gas.. i really wanna see what the 240 does on a dynojet, and i really wanna see what this new abortion makes as well, id guess 220whp or so.
-
Impressive hybrid work there on a car that you don't see on the road that much anymore. I just had one in my garage last week for ball joint swap - was really impressed with the turn radius and handling it had (after I installed the new ball joints) - of course no power with the stock SOHC power plant. Factory camber adjustment was a nice feature added to it as well if you wanted to keep the ride height stock with more adjustability.
What pistons did you use for the setup; some run of the mill nippon LS pistons?
-
QUADDIE
-
Thumbs up. One of the only Honda bodies I like.
-
I have some video of this pile of shit on my phone. Ill upload to youfuck now.
Russ: home boy will be there with the accord this year. Hoping the iron block 2wd blazer with built motor and single 72mm egay turbo setup wil be too'

I like it. I had one of those like 10 years ago. It was super clean and 100% stock. I loved it for a DD
-
"This thing barely spins the tires in the rain"
Is this a Seattle thing?
-
With that much ballast in the car, it'll probably never spin.

Built a catch can for this turd... tired of smelling the crankcase on the way to work
Also found a map sensor laying around so it reads beyond 9.5 psi O0

Looks good nig. So what's the plan for next weekend? U bringing this pig or your nissan?

Never understood the fascination with food and beverage hose.
-
HEs cheap, and black... Probably stole it from a Popeyes chicken joint straight out the fountain
-
Never understood the fascination with food and beverage hose.
I used it for 1 reason, i wanted to see/monitor what gets past the catch can...
Its not used on any of my other junk.

So you sit in the engine bay and stare at hose, while Spiker drives?
-
Nope, he sits and stares at hoe's. I got the same kinda soda hose for my acura because it was $8 for 10' and I would have used a old garden hose, but it wouldnt stand up to the heat being that it was right above the turbo/exhaust manifold.
-
no you bald nigger.. I just check it out every now and then, stop hating on my hose.
-
I only commented because I was a bit surprised. I thought you only liked radiator hose.
-
Black hose

Black hos moan

Dynoed this pile on saturday
made 215whp 220wtq on a mustang dyno and 11psi
-
:O) The shitbird lives. You dailing it now that the TL is gone?
-
Yep, been running and driving good..
-
Any updates?
-
Meh nothing to crazy, I sold my TL Type S and now i'm daily driving the bastard child..
I've put about 7k miles on it been running real good, it saw 15psi yesterday with all the cold weather.. lol its not really tuned up there and i'm betting it was out of fuel. still on stock fuel pump.
I normally run about 10-12psi it vary's quite a bit with heat and not being intercooled.
It does smoke on decel some, its random, doesnt do it all the time.. seems to do it worst when decelerating in gear and going almost down to idle from say 3500rpm.. higher rpm decel seems fine..
charge pipe is clean, nothing in the turbine housing.. head was rebuilt.. and i did a leakdown it leaks down less than 5%
-
Meh nothing to crazy, I sold my TL Type S
What year tl did you have? And was it a stick or an auto? Did u like it? Thinking about picking one up to dd.
-
I had an 07 Type S Auto trans, i liked it nice car but it got shitty mileage and i eventually didn't feel it was worth it just to drive everyday to work..
-
I got us. I'm looking for something that gets better milage than a half ton suv. So this will work...lol I'm averaging about 12mpg
-
Fuck I just drove to see leed and got 19 overall... Brod out and all dat. 12 is horrible

07 trailblazer with a 4.2 6cyl. Pretty much all in town driving. If I get out on the hwy I can pull 20/21 on road trips.

Did some window weld action on the front motor mount, shes pretty sloppy with 220wtq and 23 year old motor mounts..
I've put about 12k boosted miles on this thing so far.. runs great, drive it everyday.. still no intercooler and a total meth whore

Most polyurethane cure faster with high humidity. Throw it in a bucket with some water at the bottom, then drap a towel over the side touching the water. Cap it off with whatever and humidity will get up there.
-
Or just stick it up your soggy rectum, that ought to do it.
