Is FBM sponsoring you, or you them? lol

Things can never be un-rhmt unless you pay someone else to do it. I wish I had the balls to drop $20k in a week. Looks good so far.

I call them my official, unofficial sponsor most the 9'sec s2000 in the country run there rearendvkits along with the v160 conversion, its like the one stop s2000 in the country I'm known them for years so it was a easy decision to make who I get my parts from lj at fbm has tuned my cars for close to 7yrs now and would give the shirt off there back to help me out,I will up date this over the next week or two I'm just waiting for the Eaton LSD and my drive axles then she gonna get stripped like a nogs bike and built to beast mode , looking to run mid 9's full weight a/c and my fat ass ,hatch was fun for the past ten years but I need to see what a wheelie is all about lol ,many updates to come

It is one thing to have all those beautiful parts, it is another to have them installed and working in perfect order.

So how soon is these parts going to be used in anger?  :noel:

I think he means stock shortblock. So barely stock. IMO kinda silly to do if there's no prize involved, since you're already bought a shitload of expensive parts for everything else.

At least regap the rings, that would still be stock.

left the trans install alone today, i did notch the bell housing to accept the s2000 starter and just stripped the bay and pulled the head and rear end out not to bad for 3 hrs now im going shooting, head should be done earlie next week with valves, guides and seals and springs along with punching the head stud holes out bigger to accept the L19 studs, should go together fast after that cause all the drive train will be in tomorrow so only thing left is manifold fab piping and exhaust

Turbo set up is about it for fab,no need for the drive line if they make kits but here is the manifold, its off a jig so I'm not sure if it counts as fab

With the irs suspension every time I shift the car gets mad squarely on the top end so installing a t400 with trans brake so I dont have to shift so much at the track, should help with the launch and keep the car more consistent at the track I already have the plate to bolt it to the engine now just need a custom flex plate made and figure out what stall to run on the converter, im new when it comes to stalls so any input would be greatly appreciated

Any vids of it on the track?
Title: Re: new drag car
Post by: hatchbone on September 25, 2012, 07:01:30 PM
Found one this was a 10.2 pass with a fucked 60ft and shifting 3rd early cause I noob shifted it the day before, next day I just worked on my short track dailed the 1.44 60ft in this video down to consistent 1.36 60's, I  couldn't  get 9's though cause 3rd was toast at this point so was pointless to turn the power up .so after I wait two months to get the v160 rebuilt I decide to go t400 lol so this is the only vid I have car only made about 20 passes this year next year big dog style for sure

Why not a glide?

What rpm do you have your launch control set at? It will be close to what you need for stall.
Title: Re: new drag car
Post by: hatchbone on September 25, 2012, 07:27:12 PM
7500 I dont think it needs to be that high any more I would still like to take it out on the street I was thinking 6.5k launch with 4k stall maybe? Some were around there any ways if that would work like I said im noob auto/stall guy

thought you wanted to keep it manual cuz its still a street car?

If you were to three pedal it, when could you build boost buy? When you were dynoing what rpm was peak torque at?

I looked at my dyno sheet on previous page but its in mph not rpm id say 5500-6000 best guess

Title: Re: new drag car
Post by: dvst8r on September 26, 2012, 10:34:27 AM
I would start at about 5500rpm for a final stall speed then. Now some places when you ask for a 5500rpm stall will have it start to stall at 5500rpm and you will end up at 6500rpm+ on the trans brake, and some places will start to stall it at about 4000rpm so you end up at 5500rpm on the trans brake. I would probably start with the latter, and work from there.

I recommend pro torque converters http://www.protorque.com/ (http://www.protorque.com/) they work with a lot of turbocharged race cars, and have a good understanding of what a turbo car needs. They will probably even have a better recommendation for initial stall speed.
Title: Re: new drag car
Post by: hatchbone on September 26, 2012, 10:48:33 AM
Now with a 5k+ stall could you still drive it on the streets if need be? I like to beat on bikes and spendy v8 builds via highway pulls on the occasional weekend
Title: Re: new drag car
Post by: dvst8r on September 26, 2012, 12:58:14 PM
I'm sure you could, not sure how drive able it would be, but if you get too much lower you might have trouble building boost on the line.

Sounds like a solid dd transmission, a 48re that will hold up to 9.51@149mph at 6800lbs, and then go sled pulling the next day is a little more money then that.

it should look like this when done

Car ran a 10.2@135 last year at mid 500ish hp and I was shifting 3rd at 4k after I noob shifted it, but there are cars with the same builds running 8's with the setup I had last year I just had to ditch the manual trans after I had to drop 3k to rebuild it so when I got it back I sold that slut asap and started on this t400 swap figured if the 1000hp supras use them ill give it a shot also, but should run atleast low 9's this year without to much fuckin around

Only issue with billet flexplates is that there is no flex, and the trans pump tends to push on the engine thrust bearings increasing wear substantially. In the race truck we only get a season out of the thrust bearings. We have now gone to a laminated flexplate to try out.

Thats what I was getting at... I guess if youre gonna tear it down every season, or stay on end play its cool... Sure looks pretty Jake  ;)

Long story short big hp and a 6200 stall found the week points last year lol here is the new one that's getting cut hopefully she doesn't twist this one off or else I have to build one of them with a steel ring around to bolt the converter to, couple before and afters of the struggle

So here it is, I built what I thought was gonna be the best thing since sliced bread in my s2000 being the th400 transmission for drag setup bit after twisting converters off billet flex plates x3 I figured there is no way to hold that 45psi at 10k rpm with that setup, so I was left with two option one spend another 5k and get the car back to manual or two sell that engine and get something that bolts up to my drive line with no issues, I chose the ladder and acquired a lq9 to build and a s480 to feed that bitch so here is the start of the hatchbone s2k v.4

Too bad for them?

Did you end up trying the steel flexplate? I'm curious if it was the lack of any flex or if the power pulses were too spaced out (being a 4cyl vs 8cyl). 3 mounting tabs really isn't much when you think about it, so any extra shock between power pulses could take them out that much easier.

Post by: hatchbone on October 30, 2014, 01:14:09 PM
Steel just would have been to heavy imo I tried lol all I can say really. It worked great for street driving but trans break/launching twisted it off every time oh well v8 hotness should be fun and I really dont care if I piss honda folks off this is gonna be awesome .

I know it's a little, late, but it looks like there are a few ways you could have made that billet flex plate considerably stronger.  Better luck with your lq9!  Lets see some wheelies!

That was the first plate I busted, I had two more cut that were full circles and it always cocked the bolts sideways and eventually tore the threads right out

Post by: hatchbone on October 31, 2014, 07:37:24 PM
It would have been way to much rotating mass with thick steel plate th400 and converter, that was my thoughts any ways. Supras run billet plates same with big tq diesels. I failed though
Title: Re: new drag car
Post by: dvst8r on October 31, 2014, 09:18:56 PM
Diesels run billet steel flex plates, and those are a bad idea as they don't actually flex and wipe out engine thrust bearings. We run a laminated flexplate in the race truck.
