So when my tax return hits at the end of this month im buying a xbox 360. Where im currently living, i have internet, but when i buy a house in about 2 months i know i won't have it for a while. Besides that, i have never really been into gamin online. I don't want a ps3 at all, don't care about bluray or any of that other cool shit. The games i want are
modern warfare 1 and 2
gears of war 1 and 2
assassins creed 1 and 2
And maybe a few others.
It will pretty much just be me playing it so extra controllers aren't needed yet. I don't need online playing, and probably won't play it unless it comes with a free subscription for a month or two.
So should i buy the arcade or the pro? Pro comes with a 20g hard drive right? I won't really load any games on the harddrive either, so if it come with a free month or two of online ill just download the updates and be happy i guess.
-
If you aren't going online, the Pro will work fine. The Arcade has essentially no HD, fuck that. If you were going online and playing, downloading games, movies, demos, etc. I would say the Elite.
-
What does the harddrive do anyways? If i don't plan on ever really going online with it, do i even care if a harddrive is on it or not? Unless it does something really cool for single player games then i don't really need one i guess. But i do have friends with xbox live i could take to there house and download the updates..... shit i hate choices. im really looking to only spend about 300 tops. Including games. There is a place here that sells used games for pretty cheap, like 20 bucks for gears of war 1 and assassins creed 1. Modern warfare 1 was still 30, but thats pretty good i guess. Is modern warfare 1 as good as 2?
-
i dont know if it applies, but i use my ps3 as my media center, store all my movies and music and photos there, i also dont play online but a big hd in my case is useful, im running a 500 gb
-
I store all my movies and music on my computer, and just hook it up via the hdmi cable to my 55 inch lcd tv, so my media center needs are covered. Im only looking to play games. Im leaning towards the pro, but im still considering the arcade cuz of price. I can find them used for like 130..... Oh and since i have a house full of 13 dogs it has to be in my room so it will have to hook up to a older analog tv. The kind with the screw in cable in the back. Or to a rca inverter. Does the 360 do that?
-
HDD isn't really necessary especially if you aren't downloading or storing outside content. I would buy an Arcade. You can always upgrade with a cheap HDD off Ebay later down the road. I have an Arcade w/ a HDD add-on, and play live. Works for me, and it was cheaper. The 256mb card that comes with the Arcade should be more than plenty for game saves for a while if all you're doing is playing single player offline.

Get the one that says PS3 on top. Microsoft sucks. Fuck them.

Sony is working on setting up a tiered subscription service for PSN, so don't always count on it being free. They are definitely going to start charging for some features, but at the moment haven't settled on prices/features.
Just go with the Xbox Arcade. You get a wireless controller, and internal memory to save your games. You don't need the harddrive unless you're going to use it online to download demos/DLC/video/etc. If you're never, ever going to go online, just stick with the arcade.
It costs less than the PS3. It has more games. Xbox Live is much better than PSN. PS3 fanboys will tell you an Xbox will red-ring on you, but that was fixed a long time ago...

The DVD drive will go out on you though. I'm on my second Xbox with a disc reading issue, and the laser is already starting to fuck up on this refurbished one that I got back in November.

Maybe. Never heard of a drive issue out of everyone I know with a 360. I don't play mine much so maybe that's why it's lasted for so damn long but my friends that play it nonstop have only had RRODs on their original 360s they bought when they were first released.
-
The major benefit of the HD is loading the games on there so you don't have to have the disc running all the time. I have an arcade, and have no problems with it. But I do kind of wish I would just get a HD so I can load games on there. It's also nice to be able to take digital content with you if you travel around with your Xbox to your friends house.
Go on slickdeals.net and find the best deal. I got an arcade for dirt cheap a few weeks before thanksgiving. Before Christmas, they were selling some of the systems for ridiculous prices with good games.

yes, they will charge for some extra features that are not even available yet. but the PSN the way it is right now will stay free.

True, from what I've seen.
Either way, I don't choose a system based on $50 a year difference. I prefer Live over PSN, and with the exception of a few PS exclusives I prefer the games on 360.
If they were the same price as the 360 and could play backups, I'd consider one (secondary to the 360).
-
If you don't plan to go online just pick up one on craigslist or ebay that's been banned/flashed for cheap so you can burn games. Nothing like $1.50 games.

I hate the PS3 controller. Not to mention I don't like buying games. Fix those and I would consider one.
-
Not sure if the arcade has hdmi or not but I would make sure it does, you will need some sort of hard drive to save games and updates, IMHO sexbox>ps3 but I will have both anyways. Yeah the ps3 controller makes me want to punch babies, and their psn is pretty shitty, as for the graphics you can barely tell them apart, damn if you can get the year subscription for $38 I would jump on that, I still have the monthly account which is stupid as hell as I have been playing online for a little over 2 years now.
-
So i guess if i can find a pro for a decent price, thats what ill get. If i can't, sounds like the arcade works for me as well.
-
pawn shop.
All the ones I have been to are over stocked with 360, and only one had a PS3

that's because the niggers that steal these things from other people want the PS3.

Arcade has HDMI and it also has a built in "memory card" to save games.
PSN isn't that cool, and yeah the control sucks.

I have a firend who's still fixing piles of them, I guess left over from a long time ago?

That guy is a terrible shot. Don't let johny watch that video, he will have to say something.

I'd put money on it. They've sold 39 million xboxs which doesn't count warranty replacements.
The cooling system and motherboard in current models is noticeably different from the original ones.
Failing systems don't make for good PR, just like releasing a bad OS. The OS was fixed with Win7 and the system was fixed quite a while ago.
-
I have a unbanned modded one never taken online. You should buy it

and josher is sorta right. Xboxs aren't the only ones that break. I got a free PS3 the other day with 3 beeps and a yellow light that Im trying to fix. Gonna try the Flux Rosin and heat gun trick.
Fuck it. and before someone mentions it No i do not have 60-80-150 or whatever it cost to get it fixed properly. Xmas and Bills from the kid kicked my ass last 2 months, cant justify dropping any cash on Video games lol.

Newer ones have thicker motherboards, but they need fixing too.
Not to be a dick or anything, sir, but Kalam not only works on these things for a living (when not parting out bikes) but his n00b post on the old site had pics of two girls in the shower after a threesome he had. Do you think you have what it takes to match up to these uncontrollable knowledgeabilities?

You nogs have to pay to go online? Do you have to pay for watching porn on your 360 as well? Everything's free with my PC, so I must be missing soemthing.

There isn't a web browser on the 360 so unless you watch a movie or get some random cartoon tits in a game you probably won't be watching porn on your 360.

Does the 360 play dvds too?
-
Does the 360 play dvds too?
Yah.
Streaming is the way to go.
Get a cheap netflix subscription and you can stream thousands of movies/shows to your TV through your xbox, and PS3 does this now as well (or will soon, I don't keep up with PS3 news).
-
Netflix you have to get the $9 a month option and 95% of the stuff available is absolute garbage. Definitely not a selling point.
-
Yeah my friend had the net flix thing and all he really liked on it was deadwood. But im just excited about getting to play some games....

Maybe, I just figured out of 12,000 movies you can find something. Last I checked (which was a while ago) they had some good stuff on there.
I have netflix to get the DVDs. Streaming is just a bonus.
-
I had a redbox less than 1 mile from my house. Granted its awful for old stuff, but for anything new it works. For 1.07 a DVD, I can get 9 DVDs in 8 DVDs in 1 month from there for $9 and Netflix, I get about 6.
12,000 titles is BS by the way. They count every episode as a title. So if they have 7 seasons of some anime garbage, that's like 11,000 titles right there.

Meh, I don't know. Doesn't matter to me. Terabytes of video at home, higher quality than streamed shit. I use netflix for the DVDs, and see the streaming as a bonus. I'm sure they'd stream more, but you know how Hollywood is about their movies and distribution.
I usually had 2 days between movies so would average 8-10 a month. I only used it for obscure titles that I could not find online.
