Title: Usps Money Problems
Post by: chris on March 26, 2009, 02:20:25 PM
Well Im sure we have all read about it. Free packaging etc is probably  on the cutting blocks so if you ever plan on shipping anything in your life I would order before flat rate boxes start costing money.

fedex packaging is free of charge and they arent planning on changing that
so you can always go grab boxes and flip em inside out turns into regular brown box

 ;)
keep it on the down low

Problem is flat rate boxes is what makes them own ups/fedex. I ship flywheels for 11 bucks anywhere in the country ;D.

They have been in deep shit for years and now the economic situation is magnifying their problems.  They had some massive layoffs last week.  Some of the people my mom worked with were let go.  Imagine having like 20 years in with a company and just gettng let go.

They are making major changes so things like free packing materials are next after they axe out workers.

They have been losing money for years.  Nobody mails anything anymore other than junk mail which pays shit.  The union employees are worthless and overpaid.  I had a lengthy discussion with my mom about it and she doesn't think there will be a USPS in 5 years.  At least anything that resembles what it is now.  If it weren't for tax dollars it would have gone under a long time ago.  She's just hoping things last until she can retire.

Wait, so what about ebay sales? All online sales in general? Is there some carrier pigeon service I'm unaware of?? You must also get about shit like Netflix - subscriber rates are up 25% from last QUARTER.

This is why so many 'box' stores like Best Buy are tanking, so much online shit. They're just lucky DHL stopped U.S. opperations.

Netflix was one great thing for USPS.  When i was a carrier that was the only thing that there was really a lot of.  That and welfare checks.  They do give netflix a crazy deal though.

Seriously though, i would pick up and deliver tons of dvds every day.

it just cost me $75 to send 3 packages all to the same location, 2 of them were large flat rate boxes ($14 each). the other was about twice the size of the flat rates. they fucking RAPE on insurance.   :?:

would been about 45-50 through ups/fedex
