Title: Z6 bearings
Post by: 92CXyD on January 22, 2010, 02:04:33 PM
Ok I was wondering about what would be better engine bearing or combo of bearings to use.

I have used ACLs, Sealed Power, and King bearings.

I want a little tighter tolerance for the mains and rods.

My last set of king bearing gave a 0.003" clearance for the main #5 and .0025 for the others.

I thought about getting oem using the marking on the crank but I do not trust the info for rods b/c I am using eagle rods.

So guys what do you think.

i have always ran ACL's but if your wanting tighter tolerances then OEM is the way to go  O0

OEM and aftermarket equivalents should be 0.0015", and race flavors 0.0025"

More than that is scary.

Holy fuck, why? Unless you're running a dedicated race engine that sees well over 600whp and over 8k, theres no reason to go over .002".

Don't worry about which brand of bearings you should get as they'll basically all the same. Worry about your actual clearances. Measure them with calipers at the very least. It'll be a lot more accurate than plastigage.

Go with .0015" for 1, 2, 4 and 5 mains, and a little looser on #3. Then go with .0016-.0018" for the rods. Shim your oil pump relief valve slightly and you're set.

And I doubt your clearances on the motor you brought to the meet exceeded .0015". If they did, your motor wouldn't of had locked up like it did.

I think his motor was binding up because all of the berings were too tight. I was watching them try and turn it and it looked like they needed a breaker bar.

I know, that's what I'm saying. I was there, I remember trying to get that pile of awesome monstrosity running. I pretty much spent all day working on it haha

Maybe you just need a different crank... something that hasn't been polished twice starting with 80 grit.

The last 2 acl kits I used for a d16 were all .0015-.0018" on cranks that had been polished once. THe one in my coupe has lasted nearly 2 years w/o any drop in oil pressure or spakley oil.
