Title: gt3071r pro's and cons
Post by: speedjunky01 on January 31, 2010, 03:29:40 PM
so I found a really good deal, like crackhead price on a dual BB gt3071r im going to be picking it up no matter what because i currently intend to purchase an s2000 ap1 in about 6months. Im wondering how well it would do on a vitarda motor at about 8.3:1 cr and the rest of my setup identical to how it is on my build thread. . . .

It is a T25 Turbo with the T04S compressor housing.
Here are the Specs:
Turbine
-Wheel: 56.5mm w/ 90 trim
-Housing: 0.86 a/r
-Internally Wastegated (No Actuator)
-Maps: Not Available

Compressor
-Wheel: 71mm w/ 56 trim
-Housing: .50 a/r
-Inlet: 4.00"

any idea on spool/hp
i cant read compressor maps for shit so im pretty sure this is for this snail

that turbo is just a ball bearing 50 trim. i made 345whp @10psi on a stock gsr motor. it was hitting full boost mid/high 4K so a d series will probably be a few 100 later.

that turbo should work great on the vitara.

I knew that anything would be an improvent over the eBay 44 trim lol
just sucks I'm gonna have to change out my t3 Mani and shit once
again haha. Even if spool is in the mid 4 range still better then 5200
with the eBay turd. This thing is crazy chep though any tips for checking
it out and making sure it's not cdm trash? Obv I'm gonna chech shaft
play in and out and the usual stuff just throw up anything you nits think
would be helpful.

I don't see porn, I see a banner for planetclimax.

If it's a real gt3071r, you'll have one of the fastest spooling 4-500hp turbos depending on the turbine housing. Beware of the "ebay turbo with garrett internals". A BB chra is 9/10 of the cost, since a "bare" GT chra consists of everything except the snap rings and outter housings.

If you are getting such a steal, get an ATP housing for it and sell your junk on fleabay. Or weld a T3 flange to it and bust out the grinder.

i got a 3071r with a couple hundred miles on it for $300 2 years ago from an SRT4 guy. he thought it was blown because it was smoking. i guess he didnt know there was supposed to be a restrictor on it.

how much is it?

I guess you didn't know that bbgarret turbos have restrictors built into them... if you look down the feed hole at the end you'll see theres a small pinhole at the bottom of the hole....  the feed hole doesnt go straight to thebeqrings. Like on a know turbo... whem you yake the bb crhas apar5 yo need to note how it all comes out wo the oil routing is how it was when u took it apart

They do have a restrictor, but I believe Garret suggests still having another restrictor pre-turbo.

This would all be solved if you guys didn't have vtec heads.

regardless it needed a restrictor pre turbo because it stopped smoking when it was installed. all garret ball bearing turbos should have one. garrett even sends one installed on the turbo when you purchase it new.
