friend said he pulled it off a Volvo. Seems like they came on 400 series. I'm having trouble finding specs on it. TAO307 family.

Yeah, I know what it came off of. It came off that VW van and an 87 Volvo 400 series. but what I don't know is what the trims are. What size is the compressor? Turbine? A/R? How much horsepower is it good for? That's the info I'm having a hard time finding.

It's a .50 trim compressor, 225-250 whp.  Same as any Saab or Chrysler T3 from the 80s.  You never told me the turbine AR so I can't help you with spool.

This turbo is/was a dime a dozen.  It is the most common T3.  The only difference between any of them is the housings.  Honestly, you have the best housings so just leave it as is.  The only thing that you could do if you were really bored is find a .63a/r housing for the exhaust.  The difference is probably increasing the peak hp 5-10hp and 100rpm later spool.

I got 200 rpm later spool with mine, but that was probably more due to the added IC/piping volume from the setup that went on that incarnation.
