Title: Need math help for something: Base e bullshit
Post by: TTC on February 16, 2010, 06:14:03 PM
I havent done this shit for like 15 years, can someone refresh my memory?

4e^(-.10469x0.5) + 4e^(-.10536x1) + 104e^(-Rx1.5) = 96

answer is .10681

For the life of me I can't remember how to do this shit.

Bah fixed a slight typo

You sure those numbers are right?  I keep getting .0899 but i'm probably doing something wrong.

just remember that e is a constant, like 2.71 or something close to it, are you supposed to solve for R?
write the problem properly and get back.

also remember that 'x' does not mean 'multiply' use the fucking asterisk to show multiplication '*'

is this the problem?
4*e^(-.10469*0.5) + 4*e^(-1.10536*1) + 104*e^(-R*1.5) = 96
solve for R?
i get R = .0899033

Assuming "x" is multiply, and "R" is your variable, I get 0.0277719.

You mistyped the problem, it should read.

4*e^(-.10469*0.5) + 4*e^(-1.10536*0.1) + 104*e^(-R*1.5) = 96

answer is .1066694

That makes sense now.  I thought it was weird that he put the *1 in there.

FML this shit.

Write the fucking question correctly you dumb fuck and someone on here will help you.  Not to mention, you didn't say if you needed to show work, solve by hand, or what.  Otherwise, you punch the numbers into your damn graphic calculator and you can easily get a result.  Even on a TI83, you'd just set the problem up where X=R and Y=the equation.  Then find the 0 on the graph.  It would take 1 minute in total if you decided to jerk off for the first 50 seconds.

turn on TI89
press home button
press F2, and select nSolve
Enter equation exactly as shown, using x as your variable. After entering the equation, type ,x)
Press enter

He might be required to do a large portion by hand.  If he is asked to isolate the variable, he will have to change the e's into Logs.  I don't disagree it is a waste of time, but it might be what is required.
