Title: nitro r/c cars
Post by: 1fasthf on February 19, 2010, 01:25:26 PM
anyone into these things? ive thought about getting one for a long time, have any info/experiences with them?

kinda toss up between a normal car and a truggy offroad one, around here i think the offroad would be more usable i got a couple acres to play on
i would like the 1/5 scale but i doubt i could afford it

rc cars get expensive real fast... if you like dirt and driving around the yard and such you should look into the T-max  E-max mammoth or a buggy like you were saying they even have pump gas cars that are pretty reliable. isusally ran the

i was always a big fan of the HPI cars and trucks they were pretty durable and not to hard on the wallet.. i would love to see some rHMT rc cars they allready have people 1 offing engines and building spray kits for them..

i had a electric tamiya car that was pretty fun to drive but sold it and bought an nitro hpi car. both are gone now and was thinking the other day about picking up a nitro truggy. but they do get expensive very fast.
i have seen some ready to run nitro truggy kits as low as $170 though and they seem to have good reviews

I have a old school traxxas stampede elcetric had it sense 99', i have broken  that more times then i can count, it is cheap to fix with factory parts. but there not strong. I put it away as i cracked the frame in half.

There deffinetly fun, i remember when i first installed a better motor, haha it hauled ass (for electric).  Sad thing is theres no tracks around me anymore. When i was in vegas there was some nice indoor tracks i would go to.

Just buy a cheap used ATV or dirt bike. I had an electric car back in the day but 10 mins worth of drive time got annoying.

Just don't put nitro/glow fuel in em...  They run on premix...  If you look at the price of nitro/glow vs. 87 n oil the 1/5 scale stuff pays for itself if you run them a lot.

Also I'd seriously consider using a 2.4ghz radio.  The 1/5 scale stuff is certainly able to fuck some shit up if it starts listening to something other than your directions...

I race R/C every week at www.RCMadness.com (http://)  I run all electric cars and trucks. I race on road on the carpet track with a 008 Xray T2, its a 17.5 RCGT car. I also run a Tamiya F104 Pro F1 open wheel foam tire car.

Outside on the dirt track I run a Losi 8ight E 2.0 Buggy with a 2650k Mamba with a 3s thunder power.

Electric buggys are faster then nitro period. Tons more torque and instant power. Yes with my Losi I have about $1k into but its fun.

I also run a 1/10 Traxxas Slash as a spec class truck.

On the carpet offroad track I run a 1/16 brushless VXL slash.

I have 6 cars right now I bounce around with but RC is my main hobby so if you need any info let me know.

Electric is the way to go, I only have my nitro because I like having an engine, and it's fun. If I was concerned about all out performance or competition, I would go electric all the way.

Nitro is great for extended run times. The local track runs 20 minute mains and the cars pit once I believe. I have actually been there when we had a 45 min Nitro Truggy main. That was cool. I fine running heats and mains that are 5-7 mins.

nitro cars are pointless.

With a brushless motor you will be faster than a nitro car. And with a LiPo battery setup you can run 30-40 minutes easy. It's also nice to have reverse.

You are an idiot. The comp housing is candy-orange powder coat. The boat is engine enamel RHMT style.

I recently got one of these, scares me too much to fly it

Used to have one of these.  It was  $2k+ and was more of a lifestyle choice than a toy.  If I had more time and no life whatsoever I could see myself getting back into these:

I have a few helis too, a 450 and a honey bee fp.

Helis are harder to fly than planes but a lot more fun imo.

I disagree with the pointless part.  You are right brushless n lipo own when it comes to fast.  I'm with cs when it comes to run time, how long do you have to wait for a charge?  For those of you who can run all day how much $ do you have in your pack/cell/charger collection?  Filling a tank takes all of 3 seconds.  Plus the sound n smell of nitro/gas can't be replaced...
