Title: Fire
Post by: keelay on February 24, 2010, 03:45:45 AM
Went to install my urethane mounts, and got tired of trying to press out the old mounts. This is the result, which worked like a charm

Good thing is:
my propane torch was fucked for some reason. Wouldn't stay lit. Everything was clean, etc...After about 3 minutes of holding a lighter to it while burning the mounts, it cleared itself out. So now I have solid urethane mounts, and a working torch.

Can't go wrong with things fixing themselves.

Hell yea to that. I'm just glad to have gotten some wrench time in. The past 2 fucking weeks have been nuts. I got a Talon to fix, the engine to go in, the MS built, just have to put the motor in, and build a wiring harness for the MS, then worry about all the bolt on goodness.

I don't see how you put up with the DSM crap. I made that mistake once and never will again. If I had any fab skills, facility, and bored enough I would throw a H series swap in a 98-99 Eclipse.

Well, I've never really played with a DSM. I've wanted one, and got one now. The biggest complaints I've seen is related to bullshit wiring gremlins, which will be solved with a new custom tailored harness and megasquirt. It's a 1G Talon, awd. So no 7 bolt crank fail. A 6 bolt 4g is a damn fine motor and will love me when I build the extra motor (the one thats currently in it).

Hell ya, fire works like a hot damn!  It took me longer to unbolt each lower control arm than it did to blow out the bushings and slide in the new ones!

Propane tiger torch rocks.

Yeah that's what was wrong with mine. The ignition system (components int he column) would go bad, the IACV, the IACV port on the ECU, the starter. Everything was electronic related.

Haha that thing was always a pain in the ass.  Burned oil like a mofo too.  But, did get me to work and back :P

If your building a DSM, id highly suggest you gut it like pig.  It will live longer that way.

For all intents and purposes, DSM trans=Dseries trans in terms of size and strength.  Think about it.
