Title: Where to find 2" DOM tubing
Post by: PhilStubbs on March 02, 2010, 10:47:15 PM
where do you nogs get your tubing for the Wier traction bar kits? i have had one of these kits for a while, but never could find tubing at a good price. i guess being DOM is overkill, but whatever i can find.

the weir kit comes with 2" holes. seemed like overkill to me. problem is, you can cut and grind all day, its not going to get smaller

I stole a sign post (no joke)   worked great ,but not DOM.   I found with 13" slicks on the bar brackets sat less then 1/4" from the ground , so I traded it off.

need to figure out something new, I may just weld a tube straight across and use weir brackets

But ya , sign posts.

I have heard of a few people getting stock from these guys

Call your local metal supply store. there is one around your area i bet.

DOM isn't a requirement, but if I could get it cheap enough I might as well use something stronger.

I have been eyeing up some stop sign poles lately thinking they might work. I need to borrow a cordless sawzall.

I also considered getting 1.75" tubing and using exhaust tubing collars to size it up.

Metalexpress.net has a huge local warehouse by me, it's like a fucking metal candy store. Otherwise several web-based places can get DOM with decent shipping charges. Local will usually be much cheaper though, so take time to look through a phone book.

DOM is just expensive seamless crap. If its not a requirement, just go with what is availible. Luckly for me, ME.net offers DOM pipe. I'm planning to make my own traction bar & radius arms with their DOM pipe & steel bar.

shit, their prices arent bad. i think i will order from there.

there really isnt anything local here. there used to be, but now if they do actually have something, its still cheaper to order usually.

I'm actually considering  fence post. It's slightly larger than 2" with a pretty thick wall. There is some laying around this house I just bought.

if its good enough for a manifold, its good enough for a traction bar

yea ok.

id love to see a vid of that happening.

a bunch of 8000rpm launches on slicks and tons of street driving blows your theory out of the water.

that place is local to me, they got everything.  they have 2" DOM  and they sell by weight.  they ship too but i dont want to know how much it would cost to have some shit like that shipped

16g 2" DOM is $68 for 24ft  stock length - but after $5 cuts if you buy a pile of cut lengths it gets expensive

Sorry but the straight pipe is not cast, and cannot be shattered with a hammer.
