That thing looks like it would tip over easily... how sturdy is it? How much did it set ya back?

tip it over
Title: Re: YES
Post by: nock on March 04, 2010, 04:05:28 AM
its pretty stable, maybe three or four big dudes could tip it. because of the long scissor arms the whole thing is kinda springy, it weirds me out a little, it is from harbor fright.

the whole thing set me back a G after it was all said and done, thats hardly a steal. but i figure ill probably never have a shop tall enough for a two post anyway so this makes sense. i just cant stand the idea of rolling around on my back anymore, sitting or kneeling is better then wearing any more holes in the back of my shirts.

I wouldn't trust that thing at all. I hope you have some extended stands or braces to use. They make the smaller style post models, but I'm sure it would set you back a nice penny more.

I'd look into some stands sorta like these that are made for boats:

scary.  If you're going to be using it a lot I would go over every weld on that thing, and replace all the hardware with high grade, high quality shit.  And like they said-- definitely get some kind of posts for safety.

If it was my car I would tip it over on purpose. Just because its a neon. The only neon worth owning is a srt-4 even then it still looks of fail! But man they are stout under the hood. On the lift. I would have just saved my money and got a used 2 post lift from a local closed/closing down shop. Or saved another 1500 and got one from northern tool.

I got a cherry picker on sale one year from pepboys for around $90 I think.  could have been $120.  Works sweet though.  I bought it when I was a dumbass and while pulling my tranny to put in a new clutch, I decided to pull all my engine mounts to fill them with urethane.  All I had was two floor jacks at the time and was alone, and could not line everything up for the life of me.  NEVER AGAIN!

I'd cut some c channel the same length as the rams stroke and lay it on them. It's not horrible, but there's no way I'd get under that with just the rams holding it up. Probably a 1/16" O-ring between you and the graveyard.

it has a mechanical lock so it dosnt have to sit on the hydraulic all day. but they put this cheese dick, bike cable release crap on it that hardly works at all. im going to see about replacing it with a pneumatic cylinder so i can just hit the button for up, then hit the lever and button for down.
