Title: Best chinese knockoff I've ever seen
Post by: Jorsher on March 05, 2010, 04:00:20 PM
Needed a shift knob since my last one was hollow and broke while I was driving down the road.  Didn't want another cheapass ebay one that would fall apart or give me herpes, so bought this OEM one for ~$40.

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.baolibing.com%2F20090107%2Fpic%2Fuploadpic%2F201012923112699120.jpg&hash=b56be262084466f66f9b82f0e8a4114e03a7be7a)

After I paid for it, I realized the product location was China...

So did some Googling and found out the car this supposedly came from (FD2?) only comes in 6 speed, thus the 5-speed knob above is fake.

Finally got it today:

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi284.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fll5%2FJ0r5h3r%2FFriMar05134905CST2010.jpg&hash=e55fe94de13ef83fef23f4498a22aaf7ecd53c47)

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi284.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fll5%2FJ0r5h3r%2FFriMar05134913CST2010.jpg&hash=d520951a7dbd0cb4b3a518252af7079799689e01)

Notice the fine, "genuine" packaging.

Initially planned to attempt to get my money back since it was listed as OEM and "titanium" (which I knew was BS), both false.

But it's solid and shouldn't fall apart which was my main concern.  I'll let him keep the money and buy some rice.

i dont know about a shift knob, it could be like the jetta. people in china liked that car, so they just started making the whole fucking car for domestic sale, some of the bosch/VAG packaging was printed there, and well, step 3: profit...

Looks nice, but something about the 2 and the 4 seems off. I'd still run it.

Just wait till Scottsi, er I mean LS1pwNzJ00, pokes his head in here. You can ask him which one of his 1.3billion seaweed smelling, slant eyed relatives made it and you can ask for a refund then.

I'm not concerned about getting my money back.  Like I said just wanted a solid one that wouldn't break and figured OEM would be the sure-fire way of getting one.

The REAL 6-speed fd2 knob looks the same, except has a 6 where reverse is.  My guess is they copied it and just moved the R to where the 6 was.  Photo probably throws it off since it's round.

Satisfied with it just thought it was a damn good attempt at a "genuine" product.  They did have a 5 speed but you know Honda didn't put one of these style knobs in it.

lol.

If i discovered my OEM part was a chinese knock off when I was under assumption it was real oem, id demand a refund and tell honda.  Actually Id also demand the company i bought it from to give me a future discount or something.  Im a cheap ass like that.

If its chinese and I know its chinese as Im buying it, im cool with it.

I normally find racism unpleasant, but I think that it's my inherent reaction to hearing it from inbred hicks like Johnny.  When two "minorities" duke it out, holy shit I'm laughing.

Please, don't stop.

Keyboard broke? :P

who would pay $40 for a shift know  :?: :?:

Someone who had one of the ones that go for $20ish on ebay, that broke while driving, leaving only a sharp thin piece of aluminum threaded to the shifter, who doesn't have shift knobs sitting around, and doesn't see $40 as difficult to part with for something I'll have for...decades?

If they sell a ton, maybe they're knockoffs. If the part is normally assembled in Japan with it tagged as such - it will still say that if I sell it here or Wang Fok Bow sells it in Yingyang Provice of China. Plus many things get imported into china much cheaper, since there's usually only 1-2 importers allowed to do so. Then they are okay with making pennies selling to locals. A few pennies will make you a rich chinese man.
