Title: Health care debate
Post by: RotaryGeek on March 16, 2010, 04:44:12 PM
Yeah i guess ill go ahead and start this one. what do you think? im against it, becuase i pay alot of money for my shitty insurance and dont think its right that some lazy mother fuckers can get the same as me for free when i pay out the ass. i see on fox news right now that the tea partiers are protesting in washington right now, and alot of the phones at the democrats offices are litterally off the hook cuz they are just ringing non stop.

Yep, they'are just gonna raise taxes to pay for it.  So basically we'll just be forced to pay for government run health insurance.  I'm against it.

i pay something like $280 a month for health/dental insurance for me and my kid. If they pass this bill and i still have to pay for my insurance, i will probably be on the news holding hostages in a post office somewhere.

the answer is obvious.

under this bill if you don't buy health insurance in some form you will get huge fines and/or go to jail.... freedom right?

I used to get Bluecross/Blueshield for $8 a paycheck with LG.  Best investment I ever made when I got a 14-16k medical bill after my CRX wreck.

'30 million in US without/underinsured 10% of population'
people cant afford it = poor people
poor people = will get tax credits = they wont pay in
working people = not poor
working people = paying for the poor

isnt that whats happening right now?

just go to the hospital if you have a problem.  tell them you don't have insurance, and then don't pay the bill when they send it to you.  its what have the population does now anyways.

I know, I know. You're all waiting for my analysis, and it is as follows....

-Insurance is an overpriced rape. Your doctors have to cover a bunch of people that will never pay, therefore charging your insurance more for YOUR services, and the insurance company (on top of that) making money, end up charging YOUR premium more, for absolutely dick.

-Give it to the government, and although it seems that multiple middle men will be cut out, the government will fuck you 10X as hard.

It's a lose/lose situation. Blame Canadia.

You think that's a lot?  You're fucking high dude.  Decent health insurance for a regular person is $500-800.  Dental is another $300/month.  Count your blessings you get discounted rates.

My opinion is, something needs to be done to allow individuals to get health insurance for a reasonable rate.  People working in small businesses should not have to pay $500/month for mediocre health care.  It's just too much money.  I refuse to get health insurance at $500/month.  As a result, I'm probably going to sell my motorcycle.

It's also BS the government thinks its okay to make a small business owner have to pay $500/month for some $8/hr employee.  Make the price of health insurance reasonable(somehow) and then let people buy it if they want.  If they don't buy, get hurt, and can't afford to pay, kill them.  People can't beg for cheap healthcare and when it's available not take advantage of it because "it's still too expensive".  Those people are leaches and should be killed.

there is a whole lot going on than just "People cant afford it so we will pay for them" For instance right now if you don't have a policy for longer than 60 days then you have to re apply for one.  so lets say you are working somewhere for 5 or 30 years doesn't really matter, and well the Ford Plant, or Heating place, or Call Center or whatever and you get diagnosed with Diabetes and then the place of business closes sometime after that. now you have to Find another job in like 60 days or you have to reapply for health care which means your Diatebets will be a pre existing condition and no insurance company will pay for it or touch it.  Now your other option right now is cobra which bases itself off what you used to pay at your job.  Most of the time you pay 100% of what your insurance did.  For me that number was 1360 a month.  I would have to pay literally a second mortgage to cover my wife and son or my 7 month old doesn't have health care until 60 days after i find a new job.

Now thankfully i don't have any pre existing conditions, but my wife does so if she were layed off then it would be a scramble to find her a job and get her covered before that 60 day window to make sure her issues are still covered.

I cant afford a Second mortgage and all of that bullshit is beyond my control.  I cant help the fact that my wife has an issue, cant help my job closing, and i cant control the rates for keeping my kid covered.

THAT is why we need to do something.  not so some poor dude on food stamps can get lipo or something like some of you make it seem.

Now what they got in there isn't the best plan for sure, but there are large aspects that need to be addressed.  Im not saying the way they are going about it is the best but goddamn this shit is stupid and something needs to give.  I agree with what RS says to a degree, the answer is NOT letting the Gov just steam roll that shit.

I don't know what the best answer is but when i learned that it would be better for me to either A) go apply for a personal insurance policy and deal with an astronomical bill or B) try to get a Job ANYWHERE that would have an insurance policey so im covered.....I realized that shit is fucked.

280 might seem like a deal to you, but i only bring home 1800 a month, and about 1200 is all bills. so it hurts to me, but im damn sure not going to stop paying it.

I pay $150 a month for both mine and my wife's health insurance.  Granted, mine sucks with a $5000 deductable, if she didnt have insurance we'd be paying $600 a month for her epilepsy medicine as apposed to the $15 we pay now. I consider myself very lucky for this, after talking to people and families who have to sell everything they own to pay their medical bills, or go into indentured servitute to make ends meet.

Its a big money racket. Anyone with a fifth grade reading level can figure that out.  But nobody really stands up to do anything.  Doctors/hospitals get screwed by insurance companies too, because they only pay AFTER whatever surgery/help the patient needs is complete, and almost always try to lowball hospitals, who end up just taking what they can get.

Until everyone loses their cable/internet most people will just sit quietly and take it in the ass from the gov't. Thats the blunt end of it.

TRUFFS.

Fuck it i can still get nachos from Taco Bell, MTV is still showing im 16 and preggo and i can still buy gas for my 8 mpg Excursion to haul my 1-2 kids around so im good.

and no one wants to really talk about it, cause they are either apathetic, or don't know enough to have the debate.

Your spelling abilities suggest perhaps the government should have been more involved in your education.  Your parent's education too, and maybe then you wouldn't have the constant daily struggle with fetal alcohol syndrome making you so ANGRY at the Man all the time.  FAS is only the fault of your whore mother and bastard of a father, Johnny.  Sippin on malt liquor and plastic bottles of vodka.

Before the govt got involved healthcare was affortable...

Sippin on malt liquor and plastic bottles of vodka.

you're poor

lol.  Poor is subjective.  I just got back from a week long vacation to Florida with my gorgeous girlfriend, I'm a full time Master's student, I run trail ultramarathons, I drink delicious microbrews on a regular basis, and I pay rent with money to spare.  I do however have a rather low wage.  You're poor.

you know not to bring up your 'gorgeous girlfriend' unless you have pics to back it up.  Not doubting you, but we want to SEE
i'm sure other guys saw her on that great vacation, if you know what i mean

Mike, MY girlfriend ISN'T a stripper.
learn to quote and realize all women are whores. what do you think she is doing when you are out running marathons and going to school full time?

My condolences for your loss Mike.  All women CAN be whores, they all have that potential.  Doesn't mean that they always are though.  I suspect my girlfriend is cheating on me with most of rHMT, but you guys are cool so thats fine with me.  Other than that, I think she's pretty faithful.  When I'm running marathons and at school, she's running them with me or at work.

"Failure to prove you have purchased approved health insurance"

enforced through the IRS (unconstitutional?)
1. 2,000 fine, or 2% of your income whichever is greater
2. automatically audit your taxes
3. keep entire tax refund
4. ???

SO do you steamroll convos in real life with nonsensical bullshit?  This would be much easier if you kept up with what direction the conversation took and then commented accordingly cause the current method of repeating your own biased views and ignoring any other comments isn't really getting your point across any better.

just sayin.

WASHINGTON -- As banks gambled on the risky mortgages that helped create the worst financial crisis in generations, the U.S. government handed out millions of dollars in bonuses to regulators at agencies that missed or ignored warning signs that the system was on the verge of a meltdown.
