Really looking for opinions I guess.
2.5" exhaust tubing or 3" for ~250 WHP.
Here is the combo I am trying to finish up:
1996 Civic CX
Used Edelbrock turbo kit. GT28R = GT2560
I doubt I will be upping power too much in the foreseeable future once this is finally together, so I think 2.5" ought to be more than enough, and I kind of doubt spool up will be hampered much on this small turbo.
Gonna try it out on the Stock Y7 for a while, then the built block will go in methinks.
Flame on.

if you got to fab one, just fab one with 3".
-
no reason for the noise of a 3" for 250whp. anything 300 or less i would just rock with 2.5" even though it will support more then that
-
2.5" vs 3" i about a 5-10% difference in power. So we are talking about maybe a 15hp difference between 2.5" and 3". It's not always right on the money, but it's pretty close to those numbers.
The difference in cost isn't a huge difference. VRSexhaust has the 2.5" at $130 and 3" at $160. The difference in noise level is noticeable. 3" is louder and the drone is worse.
All in all, I don't think you can make the wrong decision. The only suggestion I can make is to make sure you get some resonators and a good muffler. It will make the care bearable to drive on a daily basis at high way speed.

Kind of what I was thinking, but I was looking for suggestions form those with more experience than myself.

I don't like cars any of my cars to be loud. This one has a pile of fuck cannon on the back right now, and it drives me nuts. The main reason why I have been leaning towards 2.5" is because I can build a very quiet, pretty free flowing exhaust for a very modest amount of money.
Thanks for the input so far fellas.

I'm running 3" to the back, then it tapers to 2" and into the stock muffler. Just going to add a cutout. Car is quiet as stock now, but power is down from the stock muffler. Cutout will fix that though. Just throwing that option out there too since you mentioned you don't like loud cars.

2.5" exhaust or bigger, but I would recommend a 3" DP at least. You'll have the room if it's a CX, and will help spool regardless of turbo.
However if you find a deal on bends or a DP that only needs 1-2 cut/welds to fit, go that route. In other words, do what's easiest but try to go big.
-
You can get rid of some of the 3 in noise depending on what muffler you run. I had a 3in with a hooker muffler on my Civic and it was as quiet or quiter then some 2.5" exhausts.
-
I'm going to say stick with a 2.5 for that power goal, more so if you like a quiet car.
I have 2.5 with 1 cherry bomb (probably burn out by now) 1 resonator i found in a garbage can and 1 more on the back as a muffler from a lexus.
with open dump it flows pretty well and sounds sick. quiet with a nice deep tone.

I have a full 3" exhaust including DP, I've got 1 long resinator and a fart cannon and the thing is really pretty quiet. I just got an ebay 3" catback, and fabbed my own DP, hacked apart the catback and welded on all v-band flanges, and tucked the fart can way up under the bumper so its hardly even noticeable.

Does that still make it loud in the car?

The plan if i go with 2.5", which I probably will, is to run a high flow Magnaflow cat, a 26" Thrush glasspack as a resonator, and a Thrush turbo muffler. i have a similar setup on my NA A6 ED hatch, And I really like how quiet it is.
If I go 3", it will cost quite a bit more.
Just looking for the best bag for the buck for this one.

Don't get the magnaflow cat. They are worthless. Mine began to rattle very quickly. Really fucking annoying. Just get a test pipe. I'd also go with a Magnaflow muffler. It looks stock, sounds pretty good, and is pretty cheap. Contact VRSexhaust for a cheap prebent kit. Not as cheap as making it yourself, but it will save you several hours on your back.

I have run 2 Magnaflow cats in the past with almost no problems. i say almost because one took a hit from a big ass piece of concrete and knocked a large chunk of the catalyst loose.
I already know about VRS as I have used 2 of their kits on other people's cars. Good stuff for an awesome price for sure.

What?!
Noise?
Buy a magnaflo or something
-
8" stack straight out the hood
-
Does that still make it loud in the car?
I guess that would depend on what you are comparing it to. Compared to stock, yeah its louder. Compared to my open DP its much quieter.
I'd say its the same as the straight 2.5in with nothing but the thrush turbo muffler on it.
-
Eh, just decided to go with 2.5 inch. I think it will work for what I want to do.
Unless I get a blingy ass muffler to cap the system off, it should be under 250 for everything.
I love the Thrush combo, personally.
