Title: Tranny rebuild
Post by: malichite on March 29, 2010, 05:34:22 PM
Looking at rebuilding my D16 Tranny in the slut.  Tired of getting used fucked up trannies and want everything right.  Anybody ever buy shit from these guys?  Any thoughts on this?  Mine current trans works but grinds into 3rd, whines really bad when down shifting blah blah blah.  Any thing else I may need?

Also, anybody in the pacNW with some experience want to show a broke nig the ropes on rebuilding a trans?

The one I am rebuilding is Hydro.  I have a few spare cables kicking around I can rob parts from.  Are they interchangeable?

I have a good z6 gearset if you want it you can have it, I'm located in Auburn WA.

Input shaft bearing took a shit, you can have everything if you want to change the bearing. FREE

Came out of a del sol with 170k something miles.

88-91 shift forks are NLA, aka No Longer Available

3-4 shift forks from 88-91 will NOT interchange with 92-95/

I have ONE customer who I've not heard where I installed a 92-95 1-2 shift fork into a 88-91 CRX Si tranny.

No Gnu's is good Gnu's!

Hondabond. Also powerwash your case and clean up the magnet well before re assembly.

I would also recommend powerwashing the transmission before you even crack the case. Purple power and 5 bucks at the diy car wash should get majority of the nasty stuff off.

Thanks everyone else for the advice.  I ordered that setup last week and will report back on it when I am done along with a right up of the rebuild..

Will do.  I also have an old case I am getting cleaned up right now before the rest of the stuff shows up.  Make it look minty fresh :)

This shit is all going to be brand new.  Better not be any fucking grinding, even if I just fill it with fucking piss.

supertech oil for me

I use that for my engine usually, unless theres a sweet sale on something else.  I just read a lot back in the day about how the gm syncromesh shit was supposed to be the best, and the penzoil stuff was the same shit but in a much less expensive bottle.  I don't really know if it's any better than good ole 10w30, I just paid the extra couple bucks for piece of mind.

Likely all my SCCA trannys will be changing fluid AWAY from Synchromesh.

The test will be at IT Fest in the heat of summer.

the purp!
Title: Re: Tranny rebuild
Post by: crttaz on April 05, 2010, 11:59:49 PM
Never Purple or Red.

Royal Purple is 1/2 Pennzoil Synchromesh and 1/2 RP oil blended.

Torco RTF is what I'll be testing.

One H23 tranny gets balky after 20-25 minutes. A cooler and pump was added and it was perfect the whole race. The tranny cooler setup for ITS is questionable in the rules, so a solution is need for 40 minute races.

I can get it for $15 a liter shipped to me right now.

I havn't had the best of luck with torco but i've never had a single problem with purp.

Ive run straight purp 10/30 in H trannys and beaten the shit out of it hard, no issues. Same with their Syncromesh fwiw.

The trannys failed from my fat foot way before an issues with the lubricants.

Id like to insrtall a cooler and pump regardless as I do take the car on 1-2 hour jaunts, but the bearsnot ispretty resiliant.

Yeah that stuff seams to work very good for you. The only problem i could think with it is that its so thick so it creates more heat. Cooler is a great Idea.

You should make a jaunt over my way and show me the ropes on rebuilding one of these things.
