Well nogs.... I'm looking for a truck.
Preferably a 4dr crew cab, box big enough to fit a snowmobile (strapped down hanging out the back) and enough power to tow a trailer with 2 more snowmobiles.
I know almost fuck all about trucks so my ears are open.
I will be rebuilding it (bought from an auction after an accident) so this will make my budget go much farther.
I'm thinking f250 or ram 2500, diesel and only diesel ;D

Ninja edit.
I hate big pics in the threads.

I know, completely useless and you are asking for legit help. If I had something useful to provide, I would. Since I don't, tire smoke will have to do.
-
If you are rebuilding it anyway, get an F-350 crew cab long box 4x4 srw, and swap a cummins in. Best of all worlds.
Realistically a ford ranger, or chev s10, or vw jetta tdi, will do what you are asking of it. I am building a two place aluminum sled trailer for my jetta right now.

I was going to get a 4 runner but the 3.4 v6 seems a little small (wont get any thing other then the 96-02)

That 4runner would have no issues at all pulling 4 sleds, even on a normal steel open deck sled trailer, it would only be 3000-3500lbs max including the trailer. With a nice Aluminum trailer and not heavy ass 4 stroke sleds you could be as little as ~2500lbs with 4 sleds and trailer.
Back to diesel trucks, what is your price range? Or are you going to finance a new truck?
Also if you do spend the money on a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, spend a bit extra and get a sled deck.

Up to 7k ish so that would be like 15-20k non rebuilt.
I would get a sled deck but a place to keep it is the problem.
I have a underground parking lot in my complex that i could store a trailer or 2.

So you might be able to find a CR dodge, or your into a 6L ford. Dodge auto with anything more then stock power will need serious help. Ford 6L right off will need an EGR delete (go see dave for that)
I really like the cummins motor, and really hate the dodge chassis. I like everything about the Ford, other then it costs so much more to make so much less power out of the 6L.
Keep the deck on the truck... :P
-
fuck a 4 runner fucking junk those things can barely move themselves
if you are insistent on buying a wrecked piece of shit and rebuilding it into an expensive wreck piece of shit get a ram with a cummins
i've pulled 14k gross weight with my hemi ram... yea i had to mash the gas up hills... but i wasn't losing speed... pulling what you want with a gas v8 wont' be a problem...
get a wrecked cummins ram
-
This is what I drive, so this is what I recommend.

The hole point of buying a wreck is so you don't buy a piece of shit and make your money go allot farther.
I'm no hack. Thing will be good as or better then new when I'm done.

What dumb questions?
I said I don't know trucks. I do this for a living, rebuilding it is the easy part.
-
Instead of finding a wrecked dodge, find a ford with a blown up 6L it shouldn't be hard. Then buy a cummins and swap it in.

I like this idea best.
I make tons of egr delete kits for the 6.0l fords, so if you buy one, I'll give you an rhmt discount.
-
My choice would be a cummins or a newer duramax.
The powerstroke motor is absolute international garbage. they seriously suck ass. its not a matter of if they blow but when.
Cummins has transmission problems. In the infinite cost-cutting wisdom of the Chrysler cooperation, they chose to mate the cummins with a gasoline transmission barely sufficient enough for the torque rating of a hemi. The tranny is the weakest link and probably if stressed often enough, will give you problems.
Personally, I'd rather buy a cummins and spend $2k to beef up the tranny than spend $6k to replace the Ford's lousy excuse for a diesel motor.
Or, buy a duramax with an allison. Its a good stout transmission. The motor is decent, much better than the ford, but its not a cummins.

the newer dodges (6.7 cummins) come with that aisan 6 speed auto, and so far it has proven to be very stout. alot of our oil field trucks run them, and we have yet to have any issues with them at all, and we are constantly hauling up to 26k lbs (and over most of the time, but DOT has been cracking down on us)
the clutches in the 6 speed manuals are another story...
plus dodge has the electronic exhaust brake (jake brake, kinda) and that alone makes it worth buying...

That's one of those $1,500 factory options, that if thought about logically you would pay $500 (just throwing numbers out for easy math) for an aftermarket one that is designed better.

touche salesman, never really looked at it like that, i just know they work good and are nice to have on my company truck, which is provided to me, i paid nothing for it, dont pay for the fuel, and actually get paid to drive it..
it def looks different now from that side of the fence..

meh, they have there problems but if you address them BEFORE you have problems and not be an idiot like most people and overheat them 100 times before you "fix" them, they work very well. Mine has been 100% bullet proff and it runs on the "kill" program (full race only) daily unless I'm towing. The biggest problem with the 6.0l is the people running them.

This. X 100 However even highroller will admit that it costs more to make less power. :P

Can we get a MOD to fix Snarf's fucking gigantic pic of a stock CR?
Also, as was my original vote, I still say get a ford truck, and put a 12v P-pump cummins in it.
-
Fords are for the most part a thirsty bunch. They also have the most uncomfortable seats of any truck I've ever driven.

done. i hate threads where i have to scroll sideways. unless its in the FS section

I have to say that I love the Cummins engine in the Dodge trucks, but hate everything else about them.
The 6.0 PSDs seem to run quite well, even though they have some issues, and their trucks are much better than the penstar crapola IMO.
I really like the fact the GM utilizes the Allison transmission, and love how livable(quiet) the Duramax seems to be. Dunno how good they are these days as the last time I dealt with them was when the early models were having injector issues left and right, but you didn't ask about GM trucks....
-
I am looking to get into a 04' cummins. Just have to Jew my dad into giving it to me for the cheap.

The tourqe shift will hold way more power, stock for stock (ecu tuning only).
-
If you buy a modern diesel with an auto behind it and plan on towing huge loads or making some real power expect to drop some real coin in the transmission department, it doesnt matter if its a ford, dodge, or chev. The chev rides the nicest and has the nicest interior but has fail independent front suspension. The ford and dodge have real front axles, the cummins is better than the powerstroke, the ford has a better trans and interior than the dodge. 6L are ok motors as HR said but the challenge is finding one that hasn't already been boot fucked. I'm partial to the dodges, imo the cummins is the best motor for pulling and the cheapest/most reliable to make big power with. If you have a bunch of money get the 6.4 ford, delete the egr and dpf, slap on a spartan tune and make 600+whp. Just be sure to sell it before the warranty is up.
-
my old 08 4x4 chevy work truck had the allison setup, and i'd haul 15000 pounds of drill string on a trailer along with a work body full of tools and bags of grout daily. i raped it daily, for about 2 years, never had a complaint.
-
Just get a tdi and a trailer hitch, they are fucking the tits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the cool kids have cummins and I feel left out.
My dad was over the other day using my trailer. I put it into his ear he needed a new truck and I knew someone who wanted to buy his. He said it had alot of km's on it. 280,000ish or so all highway. I told him that is what makes those trucks cheap and he should sell it to me for what he owes.
Going to continue to pester him.
-
But will you paint it purple, put some sweet JDM towhooks on it and have Passenger build a FMIC the size of my belly for it???

you are not a real indian if you know who your dad is.

But will you paint it purple, put some sweet JDM towhooks on it and have Passenger build a FMIC the size of my belly for it???
Its black.
First thing I would do is go over it with a finetooth comb. Detail the fuck out of it. Tune some things up and maybe get some paint for it. All depends on how much I pay for it.
22.5's, 5", smartie.
All because I am jealous of T-Mathis and his rig. :'(
