Title: Blast Media for chrome?
Post by: ADSR on March 31, 2010, 10:13:02 PM: need to blast a couple bumpers i want to paint. What kind of media is going to remove the chrome?

Post by: keelay on March 31, 2010, 11:03:30 PM: Shit I don't know, how thick is the plating? I would say something like glass? Or some other hard edgy media. I've only used walnut shells for motor blasting and engine bay blasting.

Actually you can get silicon carbide. Harder than anything else, also self-sharpens as it breaks. Black beauty with enough pressure would probably still work and be waaaay cheaper. Aluminum oxide would be in-between those two. You'd just want to be careful of warpage regardless of media you use.
