Title: Cheap Catch Can
Post by: malichite on April 11, 2010, 07:16:03 PM
Got my hands on a couple old oxygen bottles cheap (thanks noslo)  Made myself a quick catch can.  Cut the ends off, drill welded on -10 on one end for the drain, drilled out 1 1/4" hole for the breather on the other.  Then welded 2 -10s on the side near the top.  Cut a 1" diameter piece of tube the same length as the center section and welded it over the two -10s for a baffle.  Once that was done, weld the shit all back together.  Also took out about 8" in overall length.  Still more then big enough I think.  Just need to send it up to urban indian to get him to put a  :mexi: shine on it for me.  Also got the -10s welded on my valve cover a little while ago.  Just need to get a mount made up, move my battery and get this in the car.

So...  How much for one?  Don't need the -10 fittings though. I'm a cheapass that uses barb fittings?

Looks awsome except maybe the baffle. I'd have drilled some holes up it's length and stuffed that part with stainless steel wool, but that's assuming the goal is to capture & condense the vapors. Any reason you had to weld both ends of the tank? I'd probably just tack the baffel at the top and again as far in as I could reach. All I can guess is the stock threaded end had shit in it you couldn't use for the vent end.

cut both ends off so I could tack both ends of the baffle and also I couldn't fit the bastard in my drill press with the ends on to drill them out.

Nice work. I prefer using jb weld and an old Coleman propane tank+$2 fittings at my local plumbing store.
