Title: Exhaust question
Post by: CO_CReX on April 21, 2010, 11:02:36 PM
Ok so I have a 2.5" downpipe that expands to 3" then into a full 3" custom exhaust with an Apexi N1 muffler.

Today was like my 7th time being over for it.  Not that its too loud but that it clearly is modified because its a shiney muffler stickin out the back lol.  Needless to say the police around here are stifflers for this crap and Im sick of the $25 tickets.

So I am going to cut off the N1 muffler and I was wondering if anyone has ever ran a 3" exhaust into a stock muffler that is drilled/punched bigger?

If so how does it sound/look?

I am thinking I would paint it black and try and stuff it up in there behind my rear lip for the stealthy OEM not modified look.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Those stoopid Apex mufflers are loud (and gay) as shit.  I'm guessing it is actually really fucking loud.  Here is the setup I ended up doing.  It is full 3" and looks pretty stealthy.  I still need to paint it black but I have got no flack from it at all.  I actually ended up running dual mufflers to get it to quiet down and it still drowns a little bit.  If they are pulling you over for looks though, an oval muffler is the way to go.  They look way closer to stock then the average melon shooter.  Also, the way you angle the dangle and what kind of tip you run will help.  Try to keep it as stock looking as possible.

Look at factory mufflers on cars with bigger engines.  Those will likely have bigger piping, and likely still quiet.  A dual tip, and paint the box flat black.  Profit.

Only thing I hate about the fucker is how they pinch the inlet and outlet.  sure, 3" fits into it, but there is at least 1/2 inch wasted.  Still flows great though and sounds awesome.

malichite's exhaust is the best sounding 3" I think I've ever heard, not to mention inconspicuous.  Great for a DD

Homemade e-cutout on homemade 3" exhaust = $50
stock muffler/axleback/EX tip from local ricer, welded on after cutout = $25

Unmuffled redline backfires (ignition-cut) giving innocent bystanders & cops heart attacks in the city = priceless

yes, I love my antilag:)  I hit it a while ago in Bremerton.  That was when it was open downpipe.   Some old ladys down the road were screaming when I got out of the car asking if everyone was ok.  Other people were climbing out from behind cars and buildings after they ran for cover.  It was awesome!

I wanted them to do that when I was at the dyno day last year, but the opperator let off 100rpm shy of redline. :-\ Makes me want to depin the cluster's tach wire and tell him to go to x-mph...

I rock a ebay cheap-o resonator and a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler. Sounds like stock at idle and part throttle

I use this fucker on my teg

Sounds quiet at idle and part throttle and great at WOT. It's like 30$ or 40$ at local store...

i run full 3" from turbo back, through a summit glasspack and a magnaflow muffler.

its pretty quiet at idle, and driving its deep, but at WOT with wastegate dumping it screams like a busa...
