Title: what to do with a r1 bike engine
Post by: highroller54 on May 16, 2010, 09:54:57 PM
I bought a 2006 r1 swap thats complete to put in a Austin mini, I decided that for the work and money I will just build another b series mini (If I ever find another decent shell). Soooooooooooo what should I build with this?

I'm not a fan of building a shiifter cart, I have no place to run it here at all. The r1 banshee sounds really good, I have already thought of that and been looking at some roller chassis's.

I think a mini sand rail with some big suspension would be cool. Or a "car" I can run on the street. If I built a tube chassis I could start with a rotten mini that I could pick up cheap, its only hard/expensive to find a solid one but I already bought a bunch of mini shit for a b series one so I dont think I need two.

This, I have had enough high dollar sleds to know what works and a r1 is not one.

your rertad. look at the old snowmobile vids for 2000-2005 in the big hill game the rx1+ boost was the shit, that of the 1300cc watercraft motors.

i thought about puting a bike motor in one of my old sleds but it is not worth it. you can get a apex or nytro cheap these days.

r1 mini would be sick

the 1300cc watercraft motors.

are you comparing a r1 motor to a custom watercraft/sled motor?

Yes pick the heaviest snowmobile possible and use that as your point of reference.  That is fair, considering the Mini is about as bloated as they come..

so wieght is the only factor here? Turning the track and pushing a sled through the snow takes alot more effert then a car on 4 wheels, unless they are all flat.

I have owned, ridden with and ridden every kind of sled ever made. My last sled was a hill cross sled with 160hp, 2 stroke, very light. The sled deal isn't going to happen, its complete fail with that motor.

I know you don't get real snow down there but dig out an rx1 in 4' of sugar and boondock one then come talk to me about 4 stroke sleds. Look at what dominates the hillclimbs now. Big turbo 2 strokes.

I like the idea of a Jr digger but chad is fluffy so I am adding a mini digger with a turbo r1 motor in it to my previous vote of r1 banshee.

Putting an R1 motor in a Banshee frame is fucking retarted.  Banshee frames don't have the height for tall 4-stroke motors so they end up looking like hacked up abortions.  Pick a quad that at least started with a 4-stroke motor (Raptor, DS650, any 450) to make life simpler.

I still have this cbr600f4i engine here doing nothing, never did something fun to put it in, I just keep hoping that a clean fiat 500 or 600 will show up here one day

I told Urban that if he jumped off a bridge I was taking his engine and putting it in something rwd, like an old 240Z.

yes big turbo m7,8,1ks and turbo 4 stroke nytros. and the apex is still a bad ass sled on big climbs, not bondocking but big hills.
