Chinese + Freedom Tower = WTF?
-
Wow, I'd be happy to know my "patriotic" memorial was built by chinese and messicans.
-
We've inspected the firm's manufacturing in China and they're confident that the glass they will fabricate will meet or exceed safety code standards.
That sounds promising.
-
The toxic baby formula, lead painted toys, and contaminated food probably "met or exceeded" safety standards too :)

lol, exactly. All this means is when the glass fails on the 50th floor at least it will crumble safely... you don't want to cut the poor guy falling to his death.
-
Didn't olden day glass have lead in it? I've heard the term "lead glass" before
-
You can still get lead glass.

I just remembered the decanter I have is made of lead crystal. It's where I keep my expensive booze. Too bad it's always empty.

How american, send the work to china

Alcohol absorbs the lead pretty well.
-
Not only that it's financed with public money and that money is going to china
Best bang for the buck huh
Sure Obama had something to do with that, like they got a tax break for going the China route
-
who has read up on the chinese wall board? :-X

The legal system is totally fucked. If you or I worked with drywall, after we'd seen a couple smelly houses and talked to a friend or three we'd KNOW what it was. To the legal system, "alleged."
I'm just asking for mob rule for just one day, we'd get so much done.

US Glass Magazine is reporting that a U.S. firm, DCM Solera, the lowest bidder, will use a sub-contractor to procure the glass from a Chinese manufacturer.
"This building has to not only meet but exceed every possible safety and security standard out there," fire safety expert Glenn Corbett said.
Corbett says the Port Authority is making a big mistake.
"This is the number one terrorist target in the country," he said. "Why are we setting our standards so low for the minimum possible bid on this?"
The Port Authority released the following statement: "As a public agency, we select contractors...through a competitive bidding process to ensure the best price and quality since the tower is being financed with public money. This contract was awarded last August to an American company, which subbed out the glass fabrication work to a Chinese firm. We've inspected the firm's manufacturing in China and they're confident that the glass they will fabricate will meet or exceed safety code standards."
PPG Industries of Pittsburgh designed and developed the type of glass to be used in the tower, they worked for months with the Port Authority only to lose out to the low bidder.
its a shame that it goes to the lowest bidder. tahts bullshit. cheaper is usally never better, since its funded by our money we should get to help pik who does it.lol.
-
PPG has a factory of some sort here.
I feel bad they didn't get the money after their R&D costs.
How lame, USA.

Thats some fuck up shit right there.

heres an idea, how about not building a tower and instead build downward underground as far as possible to cover our asses in the case of a world ending event
-
I wonder how many times people will invest in chinese shit before they realize it will most likely give them problems.
I understand they supply a majority of what people buy, but I wouldn't trust china for anything that could be dangerous. It'll be interesting in a couple decades when the USA comes with a "Made in China" stamp and cracks like a SSAC manifold.

I'm guessing you don't live up north, or in a state with ANY flood-prone areas...
The only thing china does decent are intercoolers and charge piping. Besides that, nothing - unless you want to rate disasterous ecological destruction. They've topped that chart & then some.
-
Fuck china and all the products they produce, Sure I believe that we can't have everything American made, but China's shotty craftsmanship and overall lack of any quality control makes me think that we should look elsewhere to do the majority of our importation of products, I say we embargo china!
