People always ask clutch questions so I have a few things to say.
Im a mechanic and do this as my living.
Last summer I installed 6 xtd clutch's from ebay, some with the LW flywheel.
I think the clutch's are pretty good to tell you the truth, but realy do need the proper break in. The pilot bearing for the flywheel seems to hold up good.
My big problem is with the release bearing!
4 of the 6 cars have had the realease bearing fail with in one summer
My uncles track del sol never felt right from the day we installed the new clutch kit(pedel feel). I pulled the tranny to change the bad 3rd gear sync and found again a bad through out bearing. It actualy fell to pices when I pulled it out.
I replace that bearing with an OEM bearing from honda and the clutch felt perfect again.
End note: If you use an XTD clutch kit do yourself a favour and DO NOT USE the through out bearing it comes with!

ive used several of them, all used the supplied T/O bearing. never once a failure with many miles on them.

I got 4 out of 6 bad
I like the clutch just not the through out bearing with them.
The cars iv done do see a lot of on track(road course) time

I've had 2 and they both were shit. 6 puck slipped under 300whp and a stage 2 that slipped under 190 whp. Garbage.

I've been running one for 3 years with no complaints. I bought a nice LSD clutch over a year ago to replace the xtd when it starts to slip, but the LSD clutch is still sitting in my closet O0

Iv got one in the civic and its been holding strong for 4 months, but its just a d at 10 pounds.

i got the f1, i am sure they are the same shit. supossely the f1 is a little better that the xtd/xtr. they all look exactly the same to me. it wi;l; get the proper brake in seeing that as of right now my motor is 100% stock except i/h/e

I had a stage 2 for my accord that had <140whp. It lasted 1 track season.
I did not break it in properly, however. So that could have very well done it. The release bearing is what held up the longest surprisingly. It's is just now, since 2005, starting to show signs of it going bad.

I used the stage three with there flywheel and it worked well in a 300whp LS running 24.5" slicks in a mid to high 11 second car.I see they have a unsprung 6 puck with a heavier pressure plate now too i bet that would work really nice.

I use the stage 3 with lightened flywheel for 2yrs. w/o any issues.
I just yanked the motor out of '92 CX w/ d16z6 to put in the built d16z6/y8 vitara and the clutch and flywheel still looks great.
I probably reuse the flywheel and clutch on SC14 d16z6 race setup till it starts slipping.
With this clutch I went through 3 sets cv-axles (Vatozone/Checker/O'reily new CDM axles suck) and I had wheel spin issues with the S/C engaged. ;D

Typical cdm stories. Sometimes you get lucky sometimes they use different factories/materials etc.
I bought an act pressure plate in 1997. Installed on my first zc swap. Used that clutch on everything from all motor/builds/nitrous/boost etc. The plate is till being used today in my buddies daily driver all motor sohc vtec crx. Replaced a couple discs along the way.
Buy american products and guess what the shit last forever. 11 years and that 200 dollar plate still works.
I still dont understand the cdm buyer.
Oh ya if you ever have a problem with an act clutch you can call there office in California and talk to the people who build them/design them. Amazing. Call china and ask for Ching chang bong dong.
Oh ya alot of those clutches are just cdm replacement clutches with spray paint.

Thats all rumors I break in act clutches with rev limiter drops/street racing,never had one fail except on very big power/ 24+inch slick setups
I promise anyone throw slicks on any of these cars with cdm clutches that are still working and drop them at 7k+ watch the clutch fail on the first pass

I ran a xtd clutch on my 200hp a6, it chatterd like a mofo, Im now running one of the LSD clutches, and wow, what a differance. I will never ever buy anothe xtd clutch. After going with the lsd it feels/works great. Cant wate to see how it holds the 25" slicks and rev limit launches.

Truth. Get a real clutch. I love my ACT extreme (strongest ACT clutch for a miata). I bought it used. Came off a turbo miata that put down over 450 to the wheels and it never slipped. Clutch looked great when I got it. I'm around 270whp now and it works perfect.
And I use OEM bearings ALWAYS.

half the people that are gonna buy a cdm clutch aren't trying to run faster than a low 12
everyone knows (except ricers) you gotta pay to play.
my next build will have a good clutch, i plan on trying to hit 10's.
on my crx i didn't give a shit how long it lasted, to be honest i was trying to throw a rod threw the block.
i know cdm shit takes money from you, but what do you sell? i know of a few of your products, but for some reason i'm drawing a blank as to what you sell.
Buying CDM takes money from everyone, including yourself. But I do see your point and yeah, some times a CDM part will work fine for a given application. Dressers, carpets, clothes pins, paper clips, etc work fine. But some things I'd rather have a known quality part. IE-things that operate at high temps, high speeds, high loads, cyclic loading, reciprocate, etc. I'd rather use a CDM hair brush than a CDM turbo.

i love my XTD 6 puc. the TO did fly apart though. replaced it and all has been well.

I've never had any luck with any of Mikes clutches. I've never bought for my own car, but I've installed at least 3 of them on different cars and 2 of them have had something go wrong with them. One had the springs on the pressure plate break, another the actual springs on the disc broke.

Mike @ LSD is good about making things right though. I'm going with a dragger clutch from him as soon as I can put aside the money. having a newborn makes you a little more weary about spending money if it's not 100% necessary :-\

also, my opinion is; you can cheap out on stuff like bov, wastegate (replace the diaphragm with tial), plumping, intercooler, etc. but don't cheap out on things that can be catastrophic. I've seen pictures of these things bust into pieces under a heavy load and cause all types of carnage.

I have an ACT 6 puck unsprung with the heavy duty pressure plate in my 92 GTR. AWD launches from 8k rpm are not easy on clutches, but it's lasted over 75 times and still drives perfectly fine as a daily.

I have used these clutches with little problems....
My next clutch will be name brand....
XTD = good low budget clutch if broken in right...
