Title: new issue with built turbo A20
Post by: accordepicenter on May 28, 2010, 07:12:27 PM
Soo far the car has been running good but really needs to be tuned so that whats on the menu next.  Before that, however, Ive been watching the oil pressure gauge, and its been a solid 25-30psi at idle (1200 rpm ish) and it builds to about 50-55 at 3000rpm but then stays the same from 3000-7000.... I have a shimmed relief valve and on first startup etc, it was going to 65+ psi warm.  I have a high vol toga oil pump, so this has me slightly concerned that either the oil pump is iffy or the pickup screen or oil filter is plugged with shit.  Any ideas guys?  Should I just go ahead and drop the pan to be on the safe side?  The oil is 10w30 dino oil

toga

At some point oil pressures will peak and maintain, but when you say you put a china oil pump on your car I do not care what the symptoms are - you have a problem.

x2

Toga oil pumps seem to be a fad with the A20 crowd. They'll pay for custom pistons, but not for an OEM oil pump.

Toga oil pumps are a fad in freshly built bottom ends.

get a new oil pump and drop the pan. then get the thing tuned. rod bearings don't like being pinged on just like you don't like being flicked in the ear.

yeah im gonna look for a new genuine honda oil pump and change it from the epic-fail toga pump to the stock one, but I gotta find one first.  It seems that majestic honda doesnt carry parts for my accord anymore so ill have to check around

What ever happened to the stock oil pump? Did you spec it out? Or was it shot?

Didn't someone compare Toda to stock and it was all the same?

Try hondapartsdeals.com, you can alos use some hater-tech code for free shipping.

I lol'd, but ear flipping doesn't make you shit your pants like pinged-on bearings do. I think prego-punching is more appropriate.

Russ' spec'd out.  It's still bad.

T-O-G-A.   Toda doesn't make one for the A20.

this is when I thought it was okay to just drive it around for a little bit before I got it tuned hahaha

At least you learned.  I know people who've trashed a couple motors from doing that and are building more, or have moved onto stock WRX/Evo/domestic and swear it's a superior and more reliable platform.  Simply because it makes more power out of the box than their untuned and abused crap did.

I do have a pair of used stock pumps, but id hate to put a 150k mile pump back into the car at this point,  but the good news is I found the correct oil pump.

that shit cracks me up too, I hear people all the time saying "325whp on a stock bottom end!? that isn't reliable...my homey was making 250 and he blew his shit up" fucking idiots...its because your shit for brains "homey" had a fmu and a missing link, I have LeeD haha

Funny thing is a WRX/Evo bottom end is 10x more expensive then a d16 shortblock.  People like You, Dave and all the tuners of the world are THE MOST important element of building a car.

Yet only one of those engines is arguably worth that money.
