Title: The most effective kill switch, manual or alarm-controlled
Post by: HiProfile on May 30, 2010, 06:48:20 PM
Actually it's a relay powered by 2 switches - arm & disarm. They can be as stealthy as 2 magnetic reed switches under the carpet.

I just finished re-wiring my alarm with some atypical "dual-coil latching" relays. They only draw power while your hand is pressing the momentary button. Power coil #1 and it switches to #1 possition, power #2 for possition #2. I had originally wired up several kill relays, only to find them draining the battery like nuts.

The part that I love is how they will never change state, even if you rip out the alarm. You'd have to power the correct coil (they have 10 pins per DPDT relay), or bypass them with re-wiring. They also work perfect with my alarm (DEI). I have it set to use the Factory Disarm & Rearm wires: it will disarm those relays when I activate the remote start or press the disarm key on my key fob. Previously I had the kill relays connected to the Grounded when Armed wire, but had to use another relay connected to the remote start's Status Output to bypass that. If someone ripped out the alarm or cut that single wire, they'd disable all those kill relays.

They are fairly cheap ($2-4), small at 1/8 to 1/2 a normal 30A relay, and hold up to 16A each (can theoreticly be bridged for more). The down side is you really need to solder them to breadboard/protoboard. I just soldered the wires through the board and added connectors similar to a bosch 5-pin relay socket.

Latching Relays for Car Alarms (kill switches) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeOCjwavm3g#lq-lq2-hq-vhq)

All I did was ground one of two wires to arm or disarm the kill relays. And fuck my red cluster, I bought the car with it sprayed and hacked like that. Now it rattles to no end.

I should probably add that I have a dummy main relay in the stock possition, and the other relocated under my dash. All of this shit is covered with a 3/32" steel plate bolted with tamper-resistant tri-groove bolts. Mcmaster-Karr #90058A546.

Here's a 16 amp dual-coil latching relay, 1" x 1/2".

Heads up, faggot.  Give me five minutes alone with your car and I can drive off with it.  FUCK YOU!!

Your only chance is if I'm out of radio range or I'm passed out that night. Just make sure to bring a different engine harness and some flashlights. They won't be for illuminating any part of the car, nor the torch you'll use for the boot...

Seriously, even if you were twice the man people say you are, and diagnose/cut/strip/splice wire like a madman, AND knew what I all did, you couldnt' physically do it in 5 mins. If you could, you sure as hell wouldn't be wasting time on a sohc Civic. :P

Nah, it'd take me a couple minutes to figure out what had been rerouted so I could bypass it.  Work doesn't just happen, it takes five minutes to remove the steering lock from the column alone.  If you were asleep on your house with 2-3 alcoholic beverages in your stomache, I could drive the car down the road within (to pull a fiigure out of my ass) 30-45 minutes.

Jeff, if I lived near you I'd make a point of doing this every April Fool's Day.

5 minutes to get the steering column lock,   you can break it in a matter of seconds.

Jd's girlish charm comes at a price, he's too weak to break the steering lock.

You cant thieve a honda in less then 5 if you know whats up.

slam the steering wheel to the left and right pull of the ign tumbler and turn it with a big flat head.

Iv only have to do this twice because my friend is a dumb ass and loses his keys when hes drunk didnt have to break the steering lock the second time.

Also pop off the grey cover and jump the main relay to bypass it with power from the lights fuse in the fuse box since more honda kids cut power before the main realy
if it got bypassed.

What sucks about hondas, besides everything and the whole gay aspect, is that once its been stolen it takes 95% less time than the first time.

i built about 15 of these back in 04 or so and helped a bunch of local honda guys install them. i don't think any of their cars ever got stolen.

however, correlation does not prove causation.
