My sister wanted a car for the extreme NYC winters and settled on a cheapo MDX, but the dealer she got it from says it will likely need a new transmission soon and I read up on all the drama people have with them. Has anyone dealt with this before? I can barely even find any good auto trannies as a replacement for them, and I know the dealer charges about 5k+ for the entire "repair" and I told her to not even think about that... Anyone ever replace one of these trannies or know a good place to read up on it? Im check the acuramdx.org now... thanks niggas.
-
what the hell goes wrong with them? Pull the transmission. Have an old school transmission tech fix the problems. reinstall
-
the tranny is poorly designed, 2nd gear starves of oil, tranny overheats, shits the bed. The recall installed an oil squirter on 2nd and an oil cooler, still did not fix all the issues. The 03+ model fixes most of the problems but does nto swap to the o1-02.
-
How many miles. They extended the powertrain on ALL of those trannys (01-03) up to 105k. After that you're on your own.
-
Also don't forget a new ECU is installed with a the tranny, taking away power.
-
Buy an extended warranty with a low deductable. "I swear, I didn't know"
-
warranty goes to 105k... car has 106k. :P
-
Fix the problem and sell it.
-
its not my car you african, im going to fix it for my sister just because... its a real nice whip, she picked up cheap to have as a poor weather car, cars in the same condition were going for 2x as much without the tranny problem so unless something else comes up shes in the money either way... i'd just like to fix it for the low, nobody is swimming in money right now
-
Get a new trans, and then have a transmission guy pump up the psi, and put in a larger transmission cooler.
-
Call Acura anyway and at least try. 106k is pretty close if you're serious. Some dealerships are pretty cool about that, then you have the others. Try calling a few, can't hurt

roll back the odometer

my boss had an 01 or 02 Prelude with 60K on it and the Autotragic in it went out. well teh car was like 3 months out or warrenty or something and she just asked whats up with that and Honda said baicly ok well do it youll just have to pay like 500 or 800 bucks. I think the stealership quoted her like 3200 or something ridiculous.
Might be worth it to go raise some cain about it and see what happens. she didnt have to really put forth any effort and they hooked her up. You're only 1k over.
-
those go out all of the time. just a fyi, dealer cost is 1630 and list is 2280 and comes with a 3 year/36,000 mile warenty. go to the dealership and complain about it, they probally will goodwill warrenty it.
-
The dealer will not. You'll get somewhere bitching to corporate, maybe.
-
i called a local dealer that my family/her husbands family have given well over 150k in business too and they said to bring it in and they will look everything over for free and give us an estimate... said they may be willing to pay for parts... hope so!

I remember building those cars on the assembly line when I worked for Honda down at Marysville. They were a bitch to work on and trust me..they are pieces of shit...

lol tranny went out today as expected, lets see who ends up taking care of it :P
