Post by: schim187 on June 08, 2010, 01:29:09 AM
There's a ford 7.3L turbo for sale on craigslist up here...anyone know what size that is?

Here's the link if anyone's interested.

$500 don't seem too bad

I'm not sure on the size, but I know they are a VNT style, so unless you want to rig up something to use that feature, it's not worth it to you. I had a PILE of those (literally, 47 of them). They are basically pointless for anything but there intended application, unless you can build something to control the vanes.

This is not the new stuff, it's the old idi banks kit. it's non wastegated from the looks and uses a T4 turbine housing and what looks like a to4e comp housing. It's a pretty good sized turbo i would say.

I don't think so, I just ASSumed you were talking about the 6.0 powerjoke variant

yah, all of our tow trucks have the 6.0's and i've had to replace 3 turbos cuz of the turbos getting the vanes clogged (coked) with oil.  Bad design.

Not much of a diesel guy, but I've operated a few of the 6.0's on a semi long term basis pulling shit across country for jobs, and never encountered that problem. Other than lackluster performance pulling a 25k lb gooseneck.

Fords suck.

I wouldn't say that, With a few mods before you run them on kill and hurt them they are really tough, heres mine getting head studs and a full egr delete. Its been on kill for 6 years and sees a few 30 psi 4wd launchs a day. You would be supprized how hard a 1 ton truck can come out of the hole  :P
