Title: locked up brakes.
Post by: fysh on April 05, 2009, 09:34:05 PM
Ford Lightning:

Brembo Slotted Rotors
Hawk Ceramic Pads
Stock Calipers
Stock Master Cylinder

Without any warning front brakes locked up @ a stop light. Had the current brake set up for 2 weeks with NO issues. Now all of a sudden it chatters HARD and locks the front wheels down tight. Checked the lines and have no kinks. I'm assuming weak brake line internal walls or bad master cylinder. However, its odd that the brakes work perfect when driving in reverse, why is this?

Some bolts are loose. Retorque everything. Should have used thread locker on all the bolts, bet you didn't. Does it one wheel or both?

Check valves are for drum brakes and he said they are stock calipers. If it has locked both fronts it will be a master cyl fault. Possibly a blocked compensation port.

really?

So ALL power brakes don't have a check valve in the vacuum line from the intake manifold?????

Tap the brakes and sucks the pedal down.......trust me NOT FUN when it happens!

But, why do they work flawlessly when driving in reverse?

I ment check valve inside the master cyl which all drum brake cars have to keep pressure in the lines.
How can a broken vac check valve suck the pedal down??

The brakes work in reverse because of the position of the calipers relitive to the hub,  somethings loose or installed incorectly
