Title: Disassembly of tial 38mm wg
Post by: TTC on June 26, 2010, 10:03:36 AM
Hey fellas, my Chinese tial knock off seems to leak exhaust at idle. At the time there was no vac source, but that shouldn't matter since the 12lb spring keeps it closed. It doesnt stick, but i think its just carbd up some.

My question is, does the WG diaphragm just pop out? Is there a trick to getting it out, I dont want to tear it and since im not sure if its glued in I didn't want to yank on it.

Should not be glued in. should come out easily. If for some reason it is stuck to the flange, just slowly work around the edge till it is free.

It just fits into the groove, no glue or bolts holding it.

The last time I took one of those ching chank valves apart, there was a set screw holding the valve to the diaphram. It actually looked like there was 4 set screws but the squinty eye that put it together must have forgot 2 or 3, after those were out the valve just slid out the bottom like nothing. Mine was leaking as well so I lapped it with the seat and it seemed to seal fine after that.

Anyone ever chuck one in a valve grinder? I've seen some pretty unique things when I did it. Same with the seats.

I had one where the shaft to the diaphram seized in the bore from rust after it had sat for a while. I took it apart and cleaned it up with some sand cloth and it was fine.

IIRC all parts are interchangeable, they are a direct copy.

Ahh thanks, thats great because i have a friend with a cdm wastegate with a busted diaphragm. Tryna decide whether to buy a diaphragm or just buy a new cdm wastegate.

Explain?  Do you mean the seats aren't even concentric?  LOL, not surprised.

Exactly that. Some one fell asleep at the grinder and I've seen some that ground like they were warped. One of the early ones I noticed tried to clog up my grinding wheel. The later ones seem to be better but....
