I think I had box like that for my 91 integra automatic transmission. (it was an auto to manual conversion)

yeah i was thinking something like that, it DOES look like my old tcu from my DA but I never opened mine up so I wasnt sure. it has a CN2 header, a typical C256xxxx chip slot, a j1 and all this other shit that makes it look like an odb1 honda ecu except its obviously not.
