Title: What is this for?

I order 2 chipping kits from Moates 2 yrs ago and I got these blue capacitors in the kit.

What are they for?

Also I'm starting to get some ecu in my area needing repairs. I was wondering are there any maps/illustrations on what component on the board is for what?

I'm reading through PGMFI board info on ecu components and all I have seen is some repair info and chipping info.  :-\

But I'm still reading it all.  :yes:

Probably optional filter caps for the chipping process.

there actually power caps I forget the exact location but just like on dsm ecus honda caps will start to leak over time I asked craig the same thing a while back. there 100% optional however good piece of mind.

The 100% optional capacitors are neither power filtration units, nor electrolytic ones prone to leaking.

pics because the caps i got were electrolytic caps and just looked at the site they go in the C14 position as a preventative measure.
Moates chip kit includes the following
SST 27SF512 Chip
28-Pin Collet Socket
28-Pin Low-Profile ZIF Socket
74HC373 Logic Chip
Jumper Header for J1
1k Resistor
0.1 uF Capacitors
4-Pin Datalogging header
Replacement capacitor for C14 position (preventive measure)

did not see that until now.

Ok I looked at my ecus found the location of C14.

How do you know when to replace it? All mine show no burns or cracks. :-\

Are there any associated trouble code to this?

no they leak over time and dont do there purpose as power filtration once they leak they will smell like raw seafood. it wont throw a code the ecu will just stop working and pry throw a solid cel.

C14 is not optional.  An ECU will go into limp mode if C14 is not present/functional.  If it's stuck in there are a maintenance item, like an oil change, well then yes I suppose oil changes are optional.  You don't really have to do them.

C14 is optional to replace what i was meaning is if its not leaking and doesnt smell like seafood you dont have to replace it however if it is go ahead and solder the new one in.

and oil changes if you have a 150+k mi honda motor chances are it burns enough oil to where you just add it and change the filter every now and then  :P
