SO, I go to back out of a parking spot, reverse is being a PITA. nothing new, 1st to reverse.. still nothing. 2nd to reverse. still nothing.. roll the car forward, still nothing. Continued to try until I got out and pushed the car out of the parking space.
After about 30 minutes of trying to get it into gear at the house, i'm convinced there's something terribly wrong with my gear box. 1st-5th works great. smooth as butter.
Can anyone speculate as to what could be wrong here? I never got a grinding, just one day it's there, now it's gone. Can't find much via search anywhere. Bone?

Is it grinding or feel like it hits a brick wall. Brick wall suggests the gear selector is ate up and needs either massaging or replaced. Grinding same thing just the early notification that its goin bad. Also could be your shift forks or actuated lever to engage the gear onto the gear shafts.
What trans?

you had it apart lately? soudns like the reverse idler was installed upside down

eh, it never did grind into gear, that's what makes me think something came loose instead of wear and tear.

Y21 I think.. B16 trans from 95 del sol vtec.
definitely feels like a brick wall. I've never dug into a transmission. I guess take the case off and check around the rod that attaches to the linkage for broken pieces?

happened to my old crx once. i had a buddy let the car idle and hold the clutch in while i was in the back and forcing the tranny into rev. after that the tranny was good for another 2years untill i sold the car

Lol I was being a ASS to you, you fool. Chill red. . I have never witnessed a bad syncros do this in reverse Bone. I am comfortable saying that the gear selector is fucked up and burred bad. The collar selector is the culprit in my opinion of what I have dealt with.

and this is how it operates or...doesn't
some how 5th gear got rammed into the slider and bent the teeth over, preventing it from going into 5th. same symptoms as the transmission i pulled that hub/slider out of

failure to debur plus misalignment of the hub and slider.

I suggest running a polishing stone on the end of a dremel for the V are and then a diamond file for the edges of the grooves :noel:

the #9 selection is the 5-R synchro set. is that all I need?

my 5th gear was fine, all i did was get another transmission for cheap and take the 5/R hub and slider from it to use and now its like butter. but if i had the money to spare i'd have just bought a new one, the one i got showed signs of this, but nowhere near as sever, so i just flied the bad parts down and threw it in, i guess we'll see how it goes when i start driving

I figure with my proper use of grammar and generally clear and concise posts, I do not feel the need to spend the extra time on sentence structure. Since most the rest of the forums i visit i can barely understand what people are saying, I don't think I'm doing half bad.

thats still really good percentage Charles. But in my one year on Bs Im batting a 1000. Two Ds Batting a 1000 two h22s batting 500 because mine broke from power.

I won the second round!
I tried putting it in the reverse position again, beat it again, pry'd it back and forth. Now I get reverse! took her out for some joy riding last night. makes the integra seem like riding a bicycle! haha
