Like title says can I use a tank that was built for/uses oxygen? I need to upgrade to mig welding over this nasty fluxcore shit :mexi:
However I am a cheap cunt and refuse to pay the shit prices for a tank online or from the money grubbing shit heads locally. So how about just taking one of the oxygen tanks from the hospital I work at?
Any issues with doing that? assume it works, will the guys at the refilling store have an issue with it being an obviously marked o2 tank (green painted)
Help a nig save money and be black O0

no idea, but quit beign a cheap ass and get a tank already. the leases are cheap and no waiting for fills. Around here it's $110-150 for 10 yr lease.
-
You know how many cheese burgers I could buy with that money? a lot.
If I can save some cash I will. Need to so I can get the s12 project moving again.
To aid me incase I do give into a lease, where in the fuck do I do that? Ive been unable to find a decent place locally to do that with. Got some refutable names?
-
idk but i want to have my helium bottle filled with a mixture. im pretty sure they'll accommodate that. you should try it and tell all of us what happens. worst they can say is no and you have to bring the bottle back to work. just dont get fired over it.
-
I wont get fired. Its easy as: Hey boss can I have one of those o2 tanks? Boss: yea sure.

airgas, praxair, any REAL welding supply store. I personally go to a smaller locally owned welding supply store, there prices are a bit higher but the service and gas quality far better.

They will usually give you a trade in if you give them some other sort of cyl anyways.
-
Oh and even if they would fill your O2 tank it would take 100 refills to purge out all the O2 and your welds would suck ass for a long ass time.

every time i go to the welding shop they just trade out my tank for one that is prefilled. so i dont see it being a problum
-
yeah just see if they'll trade you an oxy tank for an argon tank.
-
an oxygen tank is worth more than a argon tank so you shouldnt have a problem exchanging them
-
My local Airgas will not exchange tanks unless they are the exact same thing.

they are the same tank with a dfferent sticker on it.if it was acetylene then yes they would be dfferent but oxygen-argon are the same tank

Same here, which I appreciate. My shit rusts pretty bad in the half-buried garage it's kept in atm. I need another c25 refill in the 80cf tank I got for free. :)

Not sure where you are located, but quimby will swap your o2 tanks for argon or 75/25. I just swapped the other way no problem earlier today.
