Title: The Hotrex Dsm Air/water
Post by: DasPoop on September 05, 2010, 11:27:40 PM
Tried searching for it and no info I am going to jacket a dsm sidemount and use it air to water with an ac condensor and a hf pump anyways I heard hotrex did this a while back and I was curious if he(or anyone) has pics of it. I was curious how the jackets were ran and what the overall dimensions were.

Ideally you'd have the inlet & outlet on opposite corners from each other. If you beadblast it, you might get away with JB weld or devcon. A weld would be sketchy, since many smic's are old, corroded and oily, plus they are rolled & glued/brazed IIRC. FYI the real cores are small because the water passages are half the thickness. You'll get half the airflow in a smic vs a real core.

I might recommend a ebay radiator instead of the AC condensor. Roger McDaniels did that, plugged the original in/outlets, and welded nipples or AN fittings on it. You then get cap with an integrated overflow mechanism - good if you want to try a sealed system. I doubt you will with a RHMT core...

I did one of these a few years back, worked well... it differed from hotrex's setup where i had the charge air go through the ambient air passageways...

That looks like a good idea. It would have much better airflow, but still enough cooling power. At this point the prefabbed IC's are cheap enough, unless you have welding skills and a $1500 tig.

welding skills and a $1500 tig.

Or lots of JB weld.  Its not like the fucking thing is gonna get very hot.
