Post by: walter on April 09, 2009, 08:01:19 PM
hi, i was looking for make my own custom taillight leds for my civic EF 90 hatback.

Im waiting already for PCB board (12) i ordered for leds.

the problem i have right now is about leds, i was looking on ebay and found this:

I want to make tailight and turn signals..so i was in the point to order 100 red leds, 50 white leds and 50 yellow reds, they say includes resistor for working on 12V so should works on the car.

The problem is about if those will works just installing each resistor to each led , i means if they will works with brake light too , if they will bright more of do i need another resistor or what really ill need.

i found this ones too with more MCD

If you set it up as a series paralell circuit, you need one resistor per series circuit.  That way, if one burns out, it will only render one series of LED's inoperative.   Either of these circuit types should work

Obviously not 24v

The first circuit will isolate any LED should it burn out so that it is the only one that will be out, however the extra current is added to the LED's that are paralell to the one that burned out and if not maintained could burn the rest out.

I would try a variable resistor to determine your brightness,  Start off with the highest restatance and progress down till your happy with the intensity.

thx for your help

really i have not much idea about how to do this, i know weld and so but, then, what leds of links i post above should i buy? they comes with resistence for works on 12V, if that enought for this?

If your wanting to try it, go for it.

This half-assed diagram I made might give you an idea on how to wire it.  I can help you out more later if you decide to do it.

You need a NOOB post even if you bring good info

nice! ok, i was talking with a guy that do samething on antoher car.

said me he used a LM317 for dual bright.. he used one with regulator for get bright i need and low to 6v for low I and for brake like i assume 12v or so.

i was learning yesterday about this things (i like this kind of electronic lol) and made this for know what resistor i need for low to 6V

and:

12-6/0.020A (20mA is use LED, says this on description): and i got 300ohm.

ok then using a LM317 with 300ohm for get 6v is Ok if im right, but what i dont know is how to connect it, well really i think i know how should go

civic has two wires for low and brake light, so ill need two LM317s?
